What a vacation, what a place!
Just got back from an amazing week on STJ with another couple. The four of us stayed at Skyflower. It was such a good decision! Usually, I stay down by the water, but this house is located basically at the top of the highest mountain (Bordeaux), which creates a totally different island experience. You climb the STEEP road to the house in your jeep (fun) and it's like a reward when you arrive. The view - you see everything and it's just so beautiful! You see St Thomas, Tortola, Virgin Gorda and lots of other islands. And you look down on Coral Bay, which is beautiful.
There are tons of beaches close by and lots of hiking trails, which we love. Our regimen was usually a hike to a beach, hanging there for a while, then heading to Skinny Legs for a painkiller, then out for dinner somewhere. We mixed in sailing and scuba trips, too. Best prescription for relaxation ever. Oh yeah, the house! Alright, several things make this the best rental we've had so far on STJ (our fourth house) and we'll come back here as long as the owners keep it the way it is, which is gorgeous and spotless. There is NONE of the fraying around the edges that you see at other places. The layout makes it great because there are three separated rooms. On the top flr, you have a common area (kitchen, dr, lr) which is perfectly sized for four adults. The kitchen is well equipped and we used it for dinner on a couple of nights. Then, you walk maybe ten feet across the deck to the first floor bedroom suite. It's perfectly appointed, really nice linens, a ceiling fan, lots of sliders to let the breezes in. The showers in both suites are outside under cover. You look out over those blue Caribbean waters! Just call me Mick Jagger.
The other suite, on the level below is a bit bigger because it contains its own living room and kitchen. We stayed there and our friends stayed upstairs. The quality of the experience upper or lower levels is identical, right down to the views, linens and showers. There are long porches both upper and lower levels, which is really nice.
What's great about the design, at least for us, is that the couples can come together in the common room for meals, coffee, hang out, whatever, but then they're also able to have complete privacy in the bedroom suites. You're not forced together 24x7; you can have just as much together or apart time as you want or need. Lastly, Coral Bay is a true island vibe, no pushy, uptight tourists. Love it.
