About Djuna Perkins

I am a lawyer living near Boston with my husband and three children, but I grew up in Woodstock, New York.

Djuna Perkins purchased this cabin in 2007

Why Djuna Perkins chose Becket

Living and working in the city, I missed the country and thought the best way to teach my kids to care for the earth was to make sure they had a place where they could actually see and appreciate the natural world, and where we could all get away from the madness of the electronic world.

What makes this cabin unique

This cabin is an incredibly restful place. From the breeze on the screened porch to the unbelievable stars and the air at night, to the simplicity of its furnishings, it is just the place to get away from it all and remember who you are.

Truth In Advertising

We stayed at the end of June and were delighted to find the cabin as advertised; clean, neat and with every convenience but, thankfully, with no Internet. Enjoyed the canoe and the many cultural offerings nearby. The owners put a great deal of thought into their home, and it shows. Reasonably priced in a funky, eclectic development. Would definitely stay again.

The Cabin is Well-Kept, But...

  • 2 of 5
The cabin is well kept, but whenever we were sitting on the front porch or in the yard, we could hear a faint buzz of traffic in the distance. This was during both day and night. It sounded like it was coming from highway route 90. We couldn't hear it from inside, though. But, to me, it ruined the experience of being in nature.

Owner's Response: Looking at google maps, the Massachusetts turnpike is about one mile away as the crow flies, although the nearest exit is a 20-minute drive (apparently this was intentional, to protect the rural setting). The highway noise is distant, and varies with weather conditions. It is far enough away that for most people, it does not negatively impact an otherwise peaceful and quiet wooded country setting. Very few cars pass within hearing or sight distance of the house.

Nice and cozy cabin in great location.

The cabin was nice and cozy and in a great location minutes from Lee and Lenox. We were able to take our dogs with us, which was a great plus. We would definitely stay there again if we are back in the Berkshires.

Great new year's getaway

Great new year's getaway
  • 5 of 5
This place was great. Tucked away in Becket, MA, this place was the perfect getaway spot for new year's. It's a bit remote but that was exactly what we were looking for! We did get out during our time there and headed off to North Adams and Lenox, both of which have great things to do and see, but other than that we stayed hunkered down in the cabin for the better part of 3 days enjoying the wood stove and watching movies. Had all the amenities you could want too ... great bedroom set up, great bathroom and plenty of heat to keep us warm (trust us we worried when we realized it would be 17 degrees and snowy for the better part of our trip!) I'd definitely stay again.

Pleasant Getaway

  • 3 of 5
This would be a fantastic getaway for a family when the weather is warm. One of the two bedrooms has bunkbeds, making it ideal for children. A beautiful lake is nearby that would be perfect for canoeing.

Because our visit was late in the season and during a cold snap, we did not have a chance to enjoy the lake or walks outside. Our chief complaint was the cold - the electric heaters are not up to temps down into the teens! We were able to get wood locally for the wood stove.

There is a fully equipped kitchen and living room area that is very comfortable.

Despite our experience with the cold I think most folks would find this to be a great place for a private get-away during the regular season.

Columbus Day Visit in Beckett

  • 5 of 5
We had a wonderful weekend in Beckett. It was ultimately relaxing. We spent some time in town but mostly just took walks around the area. We even braved a short canoe ride, although it was a bit chilly. The leaves were unreal and this neighborhood is perfect for a foliage stroll. We even took a drive to Mt. Adams and it was worth the trip. We visited with our two year old daughter and found some mild sections of the AT for her first hike.

The place was perfect. Our daughter loved the bunkbeds. The fire place was cozy and I read an entire book on the comfy red couch. The decor is cozy yet modern. We didn't spend any time on the front porch because it was a little too cold, but i bet that would be amazing in the summer. Overall, we look back on our on stay on Excalibur Drive fondly and hope to visit again soon.
