About Ole Hammarlund and Karen Lips
We are architect(Ole)/landscape architects(Karen) with an interest in revitalizing the downtown. Ole is from Denmark and Karen is from Ottawa. We came to PEI 35 years ago and loved it here.
Ole Hammarlund and Karen Lips purchased this condo in 2006
Why Ole Hammarlund and Karen Lips chose Charlottetown
The Old YMCA attracted us by its lofty ceilings, grand spaces and the many hardwood floors. We love ballroom dancing and immediately imagined ourselves here. The Y was a much loved building used by almost every Islander some times in their life, but had closed down and sat empty for 2 years before we bought it and started to renovate it.
What makes this condo unique
Our loft is in the western end of the old gym and still has the original hardwood floors. The dining table and kitchen table as well as the stairs are made of the bowling alley that used to be in the basement, which is now the indoor parking garage. There are 18 lofts in all, each one unique and different.
