Our family of 7 had a great week at this house. The house was clean and had everything we needed, including bikes, beach equipment and pull cart. Kitchen had all the appliances and utensils we needed for coffee, Pina Coladas, and cooking our own meals. The beach access was a short walk away and although the water was too cold to swim, we spent a lot of time at the beach. We caught fish on Jennette's Pier and cooked them at the house. There are many restaurants within walking distance and the Wright Brothers National Memorial is less than a mile away. Favorite Restaurants were Tortugas' Lie in Nags Head and Full Moon Cafe and Brewery in Manteo. We spent one day driving down to Cape Hatteras and took the free ferry to Ocracoke island, which has a nice waterfront town. I would recommend this house to my friends. I'm sure the area is crowded in season, but we enjoyed the off season and most places were open.
Great place to stay! Second vacation here, it feels like home!
I just want to start by saying i have a stayed in homes from corolla to avon over my years in the outer banks. This home made me feel like I was really (at home). It has everything you need and more, at an affordable price. My boys were thrilled with the games, basketball, bikes, etc. Everyone in my home watches tv to sleep including my significant other, however I dont like it. That was the only complaint I heard, their wasnt a TV in every room but I thought it was great and enjoyed my sleep with no noise and no lights flickering. The beach acess is in walking distance even though we drove because it was off season and the acess was not busy. We will be staying here again!!!
My family had a wonderful time at this home. Very well equipped with everything we needed. We made good use of the bicycles, corn hole boards, boogie boards and the gas grill. House was as advertised. Short walk to beach and many stores and restaurants. Highly recommend High Cotton for Carolina BBQ, and the dolphin sightseeing tour aboard the Kokomo. Hope to return soon.
This was the last cottage on our list, We were not able to rent other cottages we liked for near this price because we were a group of friends 21-24 and that is against many policies apparently. We were happy to be able to rent this one, it was a great deal. Please read on->
Lots of beds, we were able to fit everyone comfortably.
3 full size bathrooms, two were with tubs.
The house overall was a great size for our group of 9-14 people (16 people total in and out).
Had lots of board games, foose ball, a few bikes worked and big enough kitchen table of other games.
Location wasn't too far from beach, we never drove our car to the beach access cause it wasn't that bad of a walk.
Parking was GREAT, love not having to park on the street!
We didn't go to Capitan George's Restaurant, BUT if you wanted to it's literally like a 2 minute walk/ 1 minute bike ride (or less). And walking distance to Port O' Call, Shell gas, and even the Trading Post.
Description was pretty accurate.
Roads were great for walks and bike rides.
The "Not So" Good:
Somewhat of a busy street, maybe it was just the corner lot that made it seem busy.
Only 1 shower can run at a time, and you apparently can't take a shower if the washing machine is running. This was a big bummer for us.
Also, we spent a lot of time walking up and down the stairs outside in the rain, because there is no inside stairs connecting the two floors.
The outside shower is not private, the beams don't hide you from anyone.
The master bath (at least) had a moldy shower curtain and the master bed room was dusty, not to mention the bed skirt had white animal hair stuck to it on one side...even though animals are apparently not allowed.
The furniture is kinda old, most of the pillows needed a really good cleaning, they were all quite dirty.
Hot and cold are reversed in a few faucets/showers, but this didn't bother most of us.
The location is really close to hotels/ multi family cottages, so beaches were a little crowed, but still MUCH better than VA Beach!
Summary: This is a nice cottage, we may stay here again, I would call it a value. No where is perfect, if it is, the price wouldn't be, so this cottage is priced fairly.
We enjoyed our stay at this place. It is really pretty well stocked and you don't need to bring much. It has a great porch swing and there's a little table and chairs out there too for enjoying your morning coffee. The listing says there is a king size bed, but all the beds are queens, except the bunk/pyramid. Neighborhood is pretty quiet, which was nice. Short walk to beach access. The basement bedroom would be great for teens or pre-teen who want their own space. There's a small fridge down there and it has its own entry--you can't access it from the upstairs, so kids would especially like that! There is a foos ball table and bikes and beach equipment and even a gas grill. The closest internet access we found was up the road at Dunkin' Donuts, so we went there to check our email every other day or so. This was a great time to go because the weather is still nice but the beaches are not crowded at all. We drove to Corolla and drove out on the beach and saw one horse. I collected tons of shells and even some driftwood for craft projects. I found the owner to offer great customer service and I would recommend this 4 bedroom house to anyone who wants to stay in Kill Devil Hills. It's just down the highway from The Wright Brothers Memorial at mile post 8.5.
