Fort Greene is an historic neighborhood with brick townhouses and classic Brooklyn brownstones built in the mid-late 1800s. There are also wooden houses with wide porches and beautiful hand-carved finial details. The neighborhood is centered around Fort Greene park with its tennis courts, dog-walkers, joggers and kid's playground. Nearby is the historic Navy Yard, Williamsburg, Bed-Stuy and Greenpoint. Fort Greene has 3 major areas - Fulton/Lafayette streets where there are clothing stores, bistros, bars and the famous Raven Cake Man's red velvet cake. DeKalb avenue is home to coffee shops, Madiba's South African restaurant and live-music venue, hat shops, pet shops and vegetarian haunts. Further over on Myrtle Ave., you will find every type of cuisine from Jamaican patties to Thai to Middle Eastern. Pratt school of design is located here and the area throbs with creativity. Down Myrtle Ave. are 2 excellent art stores.

A Wonderful Apt!

jinksie1998 Oakland, CA
Review Submitted: May 13, 2008 Date of Stay: May 2008
I came with a group of four and we had a great time! I was skeptical because it was located in Brooklyn, but the neighborhood was wonderful! Take the time to get to know the cute little shops, restaurants and whole atmosphere around the apt. You won't be disappointed.

The actual apt is very specious and clean. The bedrooms are nicely furnished and give you a real sense of privacy. The bathroom is a little awkward, but still workable.

Hugo and Denis are wonderful! They not only provided us with great advice on where to eat, but they also looked out for us! They recommended several car services (thank you!) and were warm and inviting.

On a side note, you are only a couple of blocks from BAM with great music and performances! And down the block from the subway. I would definitely stay here again!

Great apartment!

I rented this space for a trip my girls took to New York. They had a fantastic time. They felt it was easy to move about the city, the neighborhood was safe and the apartment itself delightful. We would come back for a visit in a second. The owners were fantastic to work with, going above and beyond by sending us all kinds of great "go see this, go eat here" type of information. Great, great experience!

Excellent location!

We really enjoyed our New York stay at your Fort Greene apartment! The location was excellent for visiting our daughter at Pratt Institute and for sightseeing in the Manhattan area. The place is just like the pictures and is very secure and clean. The garden is really a big plus, with it's outdoor table and gas barbeque - like an extra room, outdoors. Thanks for your help with the TV, Hugo! We would definitely stay again and perhaps meet Denis next time!

HOME SICK for NYC + FORTEGREEN.

Duplicity Cronulla,NSW,Australia
Review Submitted: January 19, 2009 Date of Stay: December 2008
I write this review with a fair degree of home sickness for NYC + Forte Greene, Brooklyn.
My wife and two children ( 10 yrs + 12 yrs ) stayed in the apartment for a month over Christmas, the apartments furnishing and interior design were first class and made us feel at home and comfortable for our whole stay.

Dennis and Hugo were great hosts, they provided us with helpful local knowledge and were contactable by phone to provide advice, which I did on a couple of occasions.

The Apartment is well positioned , Great restaurants, a beautiful park a block away, and an easy walk to the Q Express train which is the first stop after leaving Manhattan.

You can't go wrong if you decide to stay in this apartment, We wish we were still there !!!!.

Fabulous!!!!!!

My family and I had the best time staying at "Cumberland Gardens." We didn't get a chance to meet Hugo, but Denis was wonderful. He made sure we were well taken care of. Since I am originally from Brooklyn it was great to be able to stay in my old neighborhood and be a few blocks from my parents. The apartment was beautifully decorated and was very spacious. My husband, 2 of our children (11 and 13) and myself had more than enough room. We had plenty of company everyday and never felt cramped. We also put the grill and the garden to good use while we were there. This apartment had way more amenities than a hotel. Anytime I go back to Brooklyn I will be staying at "Cumberland Gardens." I already think of it as my apartment!!!!!
