Home Away From Home

  • 5 of 5

We have been vacationing at this cottage for the past 3 years and are extremely happy we found it!! The owners, Art and Joan, are very welcoming. When we arrived they showed us around while thoroughly explaining anything we could possibly need to know. The cottage is unbelievably clean and well-maintained, which is very important to us!! It is also stocked with whatever you would need...just bring food and personal items and you will be all set. Having a washer and dryer available on the premises is a huge plus!! The view is absolutely amazing...from the living room, kitchen, back & side deck. The back of the cottage faces east, so you can see the magnificent sunrise!! The ocean is within view and the Block Island ferry can be seen sailing back and forth. So beautiful and relaxing!! The pond is a great place to kayak and paddle board or just watch the boats go by! If it gets too hot on the deck, you can go down to the gazebo by the water and cool off. A parking pass (good for 2 cars) to Matunuck Town Beach is included with the rental.

From the day we arrive until the day we leave we feel as if this is our "home away from home" and we look forward to returning!!

Thank you Art & Joan for allowing us to enjoy a fantastic vacation at Matunuck!!

Matunuck Vacation July 7th to July 14th

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a wonerful time at the summer rental. The house was great and included all the extras that made for a pleasurable and comfortable vacation. The weather was perfect and allowed us to get our fill of the ocean, the salt pond, boating, kayaking, clamming and just lying in the sun. We loved starting our day with a coffee on the deck and ending our day with a cocktail on the gazebo. the views of the salt pond were spectacular. Overall an A+ vacation for our family. Thanks again to Art and Joan.

Matunuck Vacation House

  • 5 of 5

My family and I have rented this house for our last two annual vacations. We're all getting older and we were interested in finding a place where we could relax while making day trips to interesting nearby locations.

I have to say that both vacations have exceeded our expectations. The house looks over a bay, providing a view that we have never tired of. In the distance, we can see the ocean breaking against the beach but the bay provides welcome shelter from ocean winds. Watching the sun come up over the water in the morning provides an unforgettable start to each day. There are a number of beaches within a short driving distance, as well as state parks and delicious places to eat. We have found numerous places that have become favorite places to re-visit. But we're not yet done exploring so no final list just yet!

The house is clean and well-stocked with pans, dishes, and other amenities. We never used them but there is a kayak, a row boat, and assorted other forms of water entertainment. The layout of the house is just about perfect, with the living room facing a glass sliding door that opens onto the deck and the bay. The three of us each have our own bedroom, which we all appreciate!

But the reality is we spend most of our time sitting on the deck overlooking the water, reading and watching the world go by. We managed our expenses by cooking many of our meals at the house. My personal favorites are hamburgers on the Weber charcoal grill and fresh muscles purchased at a local dock.

Frankly, we haven't have that much contact with the owners other than to arrange for our stay. The house is well-stocked so we really have had no reason to contact them. And they do a good job of making themselves available without intruding into our privacy. Making arrangements to rent the house has always been easy.

I would definitely recommend this house to friends and relatives. Just don't take our annual week in September! We're already looking forward to our third visit in 2012.

The week We Now Look Forward To Each Year

  • 5 of 5

This house is fantastic! We’ve stayed here the past 2 years and have already booked for 2012. There have been an abundance of upgrades done since we first took a look at it back in fall 2008. The owners are lovely, easy going and hospitable. They go out of their way to make your stay simple, relaxing and pleasurable. The house is always clean and ready to go when we arrive. Linens and towels are provided, as well as every type of cooking utensil, pot or pan you could ever need. Even the large lobster pot! The beds are quite comfortable. The kitchen is beautiful, and the living room and breakfast bar area offer a good amount of room to relax or have a few guests over, without feeling cramped. The downstairs area offered privacy to a friend who stays the week with us each year. If you rise early, you can catch some of the most beautiful sunrises you may ever see. Outdoors at this property is really wonderful. You can kayak and paddleboat, or just sit on the dock and enjoy the beautiful ocean inlet view and wait for the swans to come by several times a day. You can sunbath on the rear deck or out in the back yard while listening to music through the outdoor speakers. The outdoor private hot/cold shower is probably my favorite feature. I used it every day. There’s a great covered gazebo that we went out to every morning with our coffee while we read the paper and just took in the view. There is laundry facilities located right there in the house, so no tedious trips to the laundromat. The house is so nice and has so much to offer, that we often stayed there all day. The owners provide a beach parking pass so that on the days we did venture to the town beach, we didn’t have to pay to park. It’s a bit pricey otherwise. The house is located at the end of a peninsula in a very quiet area. It’s away from the main drag and all the traffic, yet a comfortable walk to the area church, shops, restaurants, grocery store, beaches and bars. Many nights we made the walk to and from the main street where we’d enjoyed live bands or Irish entertainment at the local bar and pub. It’s probably no more than a 15-20 minute walk anywhere. I would recommend this rental property to anyone who enjoys being able to enjoy quiet relaxation, fun with family and friends and good places to mix and mingle for entertainment.

Just Nellie and me, and the Deep Blue Sea

  • 5 of 5

I've come to think of your delightful home,as my "home away from home". The description of the place is full-on accurate. The accommodations are superior. I can be chef-in-chief if I wish, or I can choose any of the wonderful restaurants in the area. And you provide a detailed list of local eateries. My only hesitation about recommending your home, is that it might cut into MY vacation time. But, just so you know, when I describe what my stay is like, my friends suddenly look very jealous and start asking if I might want company next year?

You are a wonderful host, and I'm just happy that I get to share your house.
