Our stay was not enjoyable

The home we stayed in was not clean. The home was in desrepair. The home had broken screens, and the front door did not close. The beach was not clean even though it is a private beach. The restaurants in the area were not clean nor did they have a family friendly interaction/.
There was no laundry in the home, and the coin operated laundry mate was not clean or working.
we will not reccomend this home.
Owner's Response: Wow, I don’t even know where to start with this one, but I’ll try and start at their arrival. They arrived about 2 hours before their scheduled check in and sent a text that the screens were ripped. After that they didn’t return any calls or texts and weren’t at the cottage when our property manager arrived to check them in and do a walkthrough.
I’ll try to address their review one item at a time. The screens weren’t ripped, they slide up and down on track and sand gets in the track and sometimes they come off. It took 30 seconds to fix. In an email to me, they said that the cottage was in disrepair because the ceiling fans didn’t work. They say that they tried every switch and couldn’t find one that controlled the fan. The fans are run by a remote control that is in a holder by the door. If they had arrived and met our property manager, he would have gone over that. The fans do work…you just need the proper remote. As for the door not closing…this is news to me. The door closed before they arrived and it closes now. I did explain that being so close to the ocean, things swell from the moisture and it sometimes might stick. That’s what happens when you are on a beach.
The cottage was professionally cleaned before they arrived and the beach does get dirty. The tide goes in and out twice a day and it can bring seaweed, crabs, shells and occasionally a dead fish or two. It’s the ocean and is not a pool at the Ritz
.
We’ve spent thousands of dollars on a new deck, new bath, updated kitchen, new windows and other updates. It is not in disrepair or dirty. I have no clue what these people are talking about.
As for not being family friendly, it’s all families. Almost every person who rents is a family and the neighborhood has families with children everywhere. As far as the restaurants not being clean, my guess is these people never went in any restaurants and besides, it has nothing to do with my cottage.
The only thing that I agree with is that the washer was broken. The pump broke and I ordered a new one and put it in when the part arrived. I then cleaned the laundry room and it was as good as new. If they met the property manager, he would have told them that it would be fixed in a day or two.
From mid-June to early September, I have only 4 guests who were not repeat guests at this cottage. Between the repeat guests and all the 5 star reviews that we have, we are obviously doing something right.
