We are 4 siblings who grew up spending summers, holidays, ski breaks and many wonderful gatherings of friends and family at this classic New England house. Our mom bought the property when I was a baby. Three of us now live on the West coast and my sister Susannah lives in Boston. She is pictured here between the 2 lovely daughters of our caretaker, Lisa.

Leah Sirkin purchased this farmhouse in 1961

Our parents both have New England roots, on our mother's side going back to the Pilgrims, and our father was born in Vermont. Our dad was a US diplomat and we lived in Washington, DC when our mom went looking for a place to have as a New England base for the family. The property was just what she was looking for; a charming old colonial era house down the end of a dirt road on 100 acres, outside a quaint historic town, with a gorgeous lake and skiing nearby.

Peace and tranquility, rustic antique charm, lovely private swimming pond, birch trees, nearby lake, hiking, skiing, and boating.

Total perfection

I drove up here from NYC with ten friends for a weekend of skiing, cooking, and relaxing. The house was simply perfect. Every room is decorated with great thoughtfulness, for an antique old New England feel that’s exquisitely tasteful and supremely comfortable at the same time. You can instantly tell that you’re in a well-loved and expertly maintained family getaway.

There was space for everybody. The long dining table was ideal for group meals and lingering after dinner, and the kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed for cooking. With a fire crackling in the fireplace, the living room was warm and cozy, just the right size for unwinding after a day on the slopes.

And Mount Sunapee is my new favorite mountain in the Northeast—great runs, great snow, great food, inexpensive tickets (especially with advance purchase), unpretentious local feel, and very convenient to the house.

The rooms look just like in the photos, only better. Everything was in order, and the property manager was very accessible. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to anybody who wants to connect with family or friends in this cozy, lovingly maintained, historic, and comfortable home.

Ah. We had the best weekend. There were a large handful of us in the house and it slept the group very comfortably. The fire was a dream addition. I cannot recommend this spot enough--well equipped for cooking with large groups, comfy beds, great amount of room for hanging out. 30 minutes to Sunapee made for the perfect combination between getaway and accessibility.

Winter wonderland

Upon arrival to this stunning historic home, I felt as though I was entering a magical wonderland. The house was warm and welcoming. The pictures are an exact representation of what the house actually looks like. I went up with 4 friends and we had plenty of room to spare but it was perfectly cozy as well.

The house was sparkling clean and well maintained, stocked with everything you may need... including cooking utensils, toilet paper, towels, shampoo, conditioner, sheets, comforters, etc. Lisa, the manager, was available through email and phone for anything that we needed prior to arrival and throughout the stay.

We skied at Mt. Sunapee both days and it was about a 25-30 minute drive through beautiful back roads. The house was a perfect apres ski spot. Hot showers, a hot meal, and good company were just what we needed after a long day skiing. There was plenty of fire wood to start 2 perfect fires on both nights. This was a wonderful addition, I would recommend this house to friends and family.

Loved this place! A Winter Wonderland!

This listing is exactly as stated. It is a wonderful farmhouse on a huge property in back country New Hampshire. We had a very large party with two toddlers and there was room for all. Everyone had a bed. The pictures show the property exactly as you will find it. It was exactly what I was looking for--secluded and relaxing. The house is well stocked--pretty much anything you could imagine needing is there. The back property slopes down to a pond and was a wonderful place for sledding. We drove 30-40 minutes to Mt. Sunapee and Arrowhead for skiing and tubing. There was a lot of snow during our stay, making it the perfect Christmas vacation. Property manager, Lisa, is great to work with and very attentive. I even caught her shoveling the sidewalks and driving area early one morning! If you are looking for a luxury resort, look elsewhere. But. if you appreciate history, enjoy taking a step back in time, like spending as much time as you want exploring nature, and don't mind being away from the hustle and bustle that we call life for a while, then this is an excellent vacation choice, and very reasonably priced.
