Beautiful place, "real" town!

Firstly, costumer service was truly excellent. From the first e-mail and contact, throughout our stay, the owners made themselves available at all times (they live nearby), and were always helpful. We were a big group, so they offer an extra sofa-bed and we also rented the studio too. The studio is a separate building but part of the same complex. It had everything in one room: a double bed, a small couch and a small table, a kitchenette and a frigo-bar plus the bathroom. The house was clean, spacious and comfortable. The list of amenities is accurately described. The kitchen was equipped as it says but because we were a big group wanting to cook at home specially for New Year’s eve, we found the need for extra pots, plates and cutlery, which the owners provided for us. The house in general in general was well maintained, but we had the bad luck to encounter few malfunctions. Bad luck because we found out that previously to our arrival they were unexpectedly short of staff so they couldn’t run a proper preventive check up of the house. This minor problems however, got immediately attended and solved briefly. And, judging from the owner’s concern, I am sure that they will (as I guess they usually do) prevent all these nuisances. Regarding the location, it was perfect for us. The beach is quiet, here you don’t find people constantly waking by you selling you stuff or services while you are relaxing. It is a great place for snorkelling and scuba diving, it is a national protected park so it is really well cared for. It is 1 block to the beach (although the nearest access is at about 3 blocks) and also 3 blocks from the main square and the small crafts market. If you want to explore the ruins, cenotes (fresh water sink holes and caverns), reserves, or even big towns to party (like Cancun or playa del Carmen) all this is from 20mins to 1.5 hrs drive but if you do not have a car you can also get to those places using cheap, fairly easy and local transportation. But if you want to stay in town you will be at a beautiful, calmed and not too tourist-oriented place. Best part for us was to be able to buy very reasonable-priced fresh fish, catch of the day, from the fisherman’s coop or even directly from the fishermen arriving in their boats at the deck. When we were there, most of the fishing was made with harpoon (for the seasonal protection of some species) so it was great to know you are eating sea food that is fresh, sustainable and fair trade.
