This is a simple, funky, artsy house.:
We are not your location for elegance. If you'd like to feel what living in the 1800s was like, you'll get a touch of it here. The stairs are narrow and steep. The ceilings are low. Much of the hardware, like door latches, has been here for 200 years, and we think that's cool. Having lived here for 25 years, we can safely say there is no ghost, but many do live locally. We have left many crafts and framed artwork made by family members, and many books collected during our student years for you to enjoy. The house feels like a home because it has been a home for a long long time.
Right in the middle of it all.:
We enjoy even better access than the hotels for access to a food market, the train, and the local YMCA. Yet you can sit in the garden and barbecue, and hear peace and quiet, and see the stars at night. We loved raising our children here, and you will feel the happy vibe immediately.. There is a slide and swing in the private back yard.
Salem is host to a wonderful Jazz festival August 15&16, during the annual Heritage days celebration. Check the city's website, Destination Salem for a complete listing of community events, such as the weekly Farmer's Market, and you can walk to all of them!
George Washington slept here...and here...and here:
