IMMACULATE CLASSIC CAPE COD, SPECTACULAR MARSH AND BAY VIEWS

Sandwich House Rental Photos and Description

2 bedrooms, 1full and one half bath, sleeps 4

Simply Delightful. Enter this charming Cape Cod cottage from a private parking area off this secluded little cul-de-sac and walk down a short hallway to ... WOW! An extraordinary sweeping vista afforded by multi-paned windows and wide sliding glass doors which open onto the 40-foot deck. Start and end your day with serenity, gaze over peaceful salt marshes and Cape Cod Bay. Watch the sun rise over the Bay. Be awed by starry, starry nights. Make a wish upon a shooting star. Nature performs - four shows daily - the tide ebbs and flows to eight feet and more every six hours. Birds abound - Great Blue Heron, Mallard Duck, Canada Geese, Osprey, owls, hawks, songbirds and of course seagulls.

Sandy Cape Cod Bay beaches are a short drive away...or a nice one mile walk to the Sandwich Boardwalk at Town Neck Beach.

In the Garden you will find:: A cutting garden - fresh flowers for you.

Go across the railway track and fly-fish for Striped Bass, weakfish and blues in the marsh at hight tide.

In the Spring, wonderful Rhododendron bloom in the yard, and within walking distance (a longish walk), discover Heritage Gardens, a museum and garden complex which includes extensive gorgeous displays of Rhododendron and azalea, and a wonderful selection of Art, Motor Vehicle, Military, Baseball and other Musea, including a REAL 1902 Merry-Go-Round with rare original carved animals - endless rides included with admission to the grounds ...

In the Fall, lie out on the deck and watch spectacular meteor showers. Truly Awesome.

You cannot run out of things to do : in Sandwich and Cape Cod.

Catch a game or two of the Cape Cod Baseball League, where up-and-coming players from all over come to join the teams each summer.

Live theatre, both amateur and professional in nearby Barnstable, Dennis and Falmouth and a little farther away in Provincetown and Chatham.

Wonderful bike rides, kayaking and canoeing, Golf, mini- and max. Go Whalewatching - see Right Whales, Humpbacks, Pilots, Minkes, even dolphins - Right Up Close!

Catch striped bass and bluefish from the beach in the Fall, and from alongside the Cape Cod Canal all season.

Buy lobster (the market will even cook it for you!) YUM.

Pick up some sandwiches and a bottle of wine or some great Ginger Beer at The Brown Jug and have yourselves a picnic along the Cape Cod Canal ,or on the beach past the Sandwich Boardwalk - a nice walk from the house.

If it's ReallyReally hot outside, go ice skating at the Gallo rink, just along Route 6A between Sandwich and The Bourne Bridge

If you'd like to wander further afield: take a ride up Route 3A to Plymouth, where the Pilgrims landed in the Mayflower - see Plymouth Rock and visit Plymouth Plantation - see how the Pilgrims lived, watch them work in their homes, gardens, smithys and other trades - converse with them (they speak 16th Century English!).

Go to the New Bedford Whaling Museum.

Foxwoods Resort and Mohegan Sun Casinos are less than 2 hours away by car or bus.

See Boston: The Freedom Trail, Harvard Peabody Museum, MIT, The Kennedy Library, Theatre, Chinatown, Faneuil Hall Marketplace, all this and tons more just a hour's drive or bus ride up the road.

PERFECT 2 WEEKS

  • 5 of 5
We stayed at Peg and Ricks holiday cottage for 2 weeks in August. The cottage is lovely, it was well equipped, well maintained and incredibly clean. Peg and Rick and their son Dominic were lovely to deal with, they were very helpful and a great source of information on restaurants, shops, sightseeing etc. We (family of 4, children aged 8 and 11) had a wonderful time and if we didn't live on the other side of the world we would come back again this August.

LOVELY VIEW, CHARMING HOME, PERSONAL TOUCHES

  • 5 of 5
This home not only met, but exceeded our expectations. It was everything it promised - clean, thoughtfully appointed, comfortable. It didn't feel like a rental property, but rather a true home. We particularly enjoyed sitting on the deck with our morning tea and coffee (in nice, big mugs!) looking out at the gorgeous marsh view. The owners thought of everything, from bed linens to homemade cookies in the cookie jar. It's just the right size for 2-4 people and the location is ideal, just a few miles off Rte 6. We had all the information we needed to find local stores and restaurants easily, and enjoyed a day trip to Wellfleet, a long walk on Sandy Neck, a bit of shopping, and dinner at the Barnstable Tavern. I would recommend it to friends and family, or return myself.

A BEAUTIFUL CAPE COD COTTAGE IN PERFECT LOCATION

  • 5 of 5
5 Land's End Lane is a lovely, clean & well-maintained cottage in a central, yet secluded location. It has a traditional New England interior yet is modern and spotlessly clean. The bedrooms are perfect for accommodating up to 4 people and the cottage is equipped with all the mods cons you could need. The rear terrace offers a fantastic view over the marshlands and is a great suntrap. It's so quiet all you can hear are the birds and it's a great place to relax and watch the wildlife. The cottage is in a very peaceful, secluded spot, at the bottom of a cul de sac yet it is right off the main route 6A through Sandwich which gives you full access up and down Cape Cod. Sandwich itself is a lovely little town which is very centrally located for touring the Cape or for venturing up to Boston or over to Providence. Rick was very easy to deal with and it was nice to meet him and Dominic on their fishing trip. We have rented many places in the US and Europe and this is definitely one of the best we have stayed in. It's not cheap, but New England is a bit more expensive than most other parts of the States and, like most things in life, you get what you pay for ! We'd definitely recommend it and will go back again next year.

VERY PEACEFUL AND WELL-EQUIPED HOME

  • 5 of 5
We've stayed at about 10 vacation homes over the years and this one was THE most well-equipped of all. For example, the owner provided beach chairs, a cooler, and a cart to carry them onto the beach. The kitchen also had various utensils, pots/pans and even condiments that most places just don't even think of providing.

The immediate Sandwich area had plenty of places to eat at and explore. Shopping for groceries was convenient. The owners also provided excellent information about where things were in the area. We liked the Heritage Gardens and Museums, the Sandwich Glass Museum, and the Boardwalk. The one thing we didn't care for was the beaches in the immediate area - they were quite rocky at the water's edge.

One final note, If you have kids that love trains, you must stay here - the daily scenic railroad train was really a unique sight.

PERFECT FAMILY GET-AWAY

  • 5 of 5
The house was everything we wanted for a family get-away with our two small children (ages 5-years-old and 3-years-old). The owners, Rick, Peg and their charming young son Dominic, couldn't have been nicer or more helpful, providing suggestions on local attractions and restaurants. Rick and Dominic even gave us a bass that they had caught on a fishing trip and we grilled it on the BBQ on the deck. Talk about going above and beyond!

The house itself is immensely charming and perfectly appointed. The location is quiet with a beautiful view of the marsh leading out to the ocean. Probably the biggest highlight for our boys was the scenic breakfast/dinner train that passes by a few times a day. They would immediately run out onto the deck whenever they heard the approaching train and wave to the engineers and passengers, many of whom waved back. It made their days. We also enjoyed eating breakfast and dinner out on the deck almost every day of our stay (we were thankful that the weather was so cooperative). Watching the hummingbirds zoom around the feeder and the gold finches chirping away down in the yard was very entertaining.

Sandwich as a location was ideal. There are many things to do within a short drive of the house. A few of our favorites: the Heritage Gardens and Museum (Hidden Hollow was a big hit with the boys), the Sandwich beach boardwalk, Cape Cod potato chip factory tour (it only lasts ~5 minutes, just an FYI), Hyannis harbour tour, and mini-golf. We also visited the beach several times. Our first day on the Sandy Neck Beach was exciting as there was a great white patrolling the water, so we were not allowed to go in and instead built sand castles and watched for a shark fin!

Overall a wonderful stay. We highly recommend!

A SPECIAL PLACE

  • 5 of 5
It was our second time at Lands End Lane and as we walked through the house the anticipation of the view from the deck, beckoned us forward, and there it was the view WOW. The cottage is in an idyllic spot. A 20 minute walk takes you into the centre of Sandwich with the Glass museum, the mill and the Hoaxie house along with excellent cafes for a drink or a snack. To sit on the deck chilling out in the sunshine reading a book watching the tormenting Hummingbirds makes for a relaxing time. The cottage is very clean and well provided and the beds are really comfy. It feels like you are in your own home not visiting someone else's it is so comfortable. Thank you Rick, Peg and Dominic for sharing your special home with us.
