Our stay at this home was wonderful! We loved the views and the cottage was very clean and comfortable. Marybeth did everything to make our vacation a special one. We'll be back next year!
The house was wonderful! It is well kept and we felt at home from the moment we entered. It is well appointed and had everything that we could have needed which greatly simplified our packing and travel - something which we really appreciated. The view is amazing and relaxing - we spent most of our time taking it all in (even on the one rainy day that we had); watching the changing scenes of water, wildlife and sky.
While vacationing we enjoying exploring the surrounding area which we found much more relaxed and laid back as compared to other parts of the Cape. Some of the highlights were whale watching, visiting the local beaches, walking into Sandwich (stores, restaurants, Glass Museum), eating supper on Town Neck Beach (really close to the house), sampling many ice cream establishments, playing frisbee and badminton in the yard, putting a puzzle together on a rainy day and just enjoying time together as a family.
The owners were great to deal with - very responsive and helpful with our many questions. As compared to other rental experiences we have had, I would say that this was at the very top. We can't say enough good things - I would recommend this rental without any reservations to anyone who is considering it.
We simply loved every minute of our stay at Rick and Pegs house: the warm welcome (a note on the table, cookies in the cookie jar), a house perfectly clean and completely equipped, the dreamy, quiet location yet close to all amenities. We loved having breakfast on the terrace with the beautiful marsh view while planning the day, and discovering Rick just sent an email with good advice ;-)
Whale watching, lovely beaches, antiques shops, good food and simply delightful people: Cape Cod is just a wonderful holiday destination!
If it were´t so far a journey (we´re from Germany), we´d come back every season! Thank you Rick and Peg for sharing your home with us!
We stayed at Peg and Ricks holiday cottage for 2 weeks in August. The cottage is lovely, it was well equipped, well maintained and incredibly clean. Peg and Rick and their son Dominic were lovely to deal with, they were very helpful and a great source of information on restaurants, shops, sightseeing etc. We (family of 4, children aged 8 and 11) had a wonderful time and if we didn't live on the other side of the world we would come back again this August.
This home not only met, but exceeded our expectations. It was everything it promised - clean, thoughtfully appointed, comfortable. It didn't feel like a rental property, but rather a true home. We particularly enjoyed sitting on the deck with our morning tea and coffee (in nice, big mugs!) looking out at the gorgeous marsh view. The owners thought of everything, from bed linens to homemade cookies in the cookie jar. It's just the right size for 2-4 people and the location is ideal, just a few miles off Rte 6. We had all the information we needed to find local stores and restaurants easily, and enjoyed a day trip to Wellfleet, a long walk on Sandy Neck, a bit of shopping, and dinner at the Barnstable Tavern. I would recommend it to friends and family, or return myself.
5 Land's End Lane is a lovely, clean & well-maintained cottage in a central, yet secluded location. It has a traditional New England interior yet is modern and spotlessly clean. The bedrooms are perfect for accommodating up to 4 people and the cottage is equipped with all the mods cons you could need. The rear terrace offers a fantastic view over the marshlands and is a great suntrap. It's so quiet all you can hear are the birds and it's a great place to relax and watch the wildlife. The cottage is in a very peaceful, secluded spot, at the bottom of a cul de sac yet it is right off the main route 6A through Sandwich which gives you full access up and down Cape Cod. Sandwich itself is a lovely little town which is very centrally located for touring the Cape or for venturing up to Boston or over to Providence. Rick was very easy to deal with and it was nice to meet him and Dominic on their fishing trip. We have rented many places in the US and Europe and this is definitely one of the best we have stayed in. It's not cheap, but New England is a bit more expensive than most other parts of the States and, like most things in life, you get what you pay for ! We'd definitely recommend it and will go back again next year.
We've stayed at about 10 vacation homes over the years and this one was THE most well-equipped of all. For example, the owner provided beach chairs, a cooler, and a cart to carry them onto the beach. The kitchen also had various utensils, pots/pans and even condiments that most places just don't even think of providing.
The immediate Sandwich area had plenty of places to eat at and explore. Shopping for groceries was convenient. The owners also provided excellent information about where things were in the area. We liked the Heritage Gardens and Museums, the Sandwich Glass Museum, and the Boardwalk. The one thing we didn't care for was the beaches in the immediate area - they were quite rocky at the water's edge.
One final note, If you have kids that love trains, you must stay here - the daily scenic railroad train was really a unique sight.
The oldest incorporated town on Cape Cod, right on the Cape Cod Canal just over the Sagamore Bridge, Sandwich offers just about every amenity a vacationer might wish for. The Sandwich Glass Museum, a Fish Hatchery, Mini-Golf, Gold Courses, fishing from shore or boat. Walk, bike or rollerblade along the Canal from Cape Cod Bay to Buzzard's Bay and back again. Watch tugboats manoeuvre barges. Observe sailing boats of every size and style. Watch the lobster boats come and go.
SHOP: The Best Gourmet Food Shop in the Cape and South Shore; Supermarket; The Cape Cod Mall; Mashpee Commons with local and national vendors; The Bridge Outlet Mall; Farmer's Markets; Fish and Lobster Markets; Antiques shops one after another, yard sales by the dozens. Fabulous!
EAT: Clam shacks to Fine Dining all within walking distance or, if one prefers, take a little drive out on the Cape - a day trip to Provincetown perhaps, or ride the ferryboats to Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket. Ride the Cape Cod Railroad.
Other Activities: Arial sight-seeing; Whale watching; Cape Cod Canal Cruises; Fishing Charters
