Big Bear Cabin has a cozy stacked stone gas log fireplace with 150 year old reclaimed wood mantel, antler chandelier over the log dining room table, convenient location, abundant amenities, and more! Big Bear Cabin is located in the Bear Den community directly off of the Blue Ridge Parkway at mile marker 324.8 in Spruce Pine, NC.

Nestled in the heart of the Pisgah National Forest, Big Bear Cabin is located within 5 minutes of the Orchard at Altapass, 10 minutes of the area's best gem mining, 10 minutes of the beautiful Linville Falls / Linville Gorge / Linville Caverns, and 20 minutes of Grandfather Mountain.

Big Bear Cabin is located in the Bear Den community directly off of the Blue Ridge Parkway between mile markers 324 and 325 and is roughly half way between Linville Falls and Little Switzerland. Big Bear Cabin is very secluded and sits at an elevation of 3000+ feet above sea level within the Pisgah National Forest. The cabin is conveniently located close to many local attractions and offers short and long range mountain views. Don't feel like getting in the car to go find a hike or waterfall? No problem... It is a short walk from Big Bear Cabin to several really great hiking trails that lead directly to a beautiful waterfall inside the Pisgah National Forest. Big Bear Cabin is located within one of the very few communities (i.e. Bear Den) located directly off of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Make sure to check out the mountain views and millions of stars at night from the Hot Springs hot tub on the large front porch.

Additional information about rental rates

  • Reservations are accepted with a two-night minimum deposit.
  • Check In is 3:00 pm - Check Out is 11:00 am.

    RESERVATION POLICY: A two night minimum rental is required along with a two night deposit to setup and confirm a reservation. Holiday weekends require a minimum stay of three nights and a three night deposit. The balance of charges for the time you reserved are due upon arrival. We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express. If you prefer to pay your deposit by check, your check must arrive six weeks prior to your arrival. A $100 security deposit is required upon check in, by credit card.

    CANCELLATION POLICY: If you need to cancel your reservation, please notify us more than 30 days from the date of your anticipated arrival. We will charge a 10% cancellation fee but will gladly refund 90% of your deposit. Within 30 days of the date of your reserved arrival, we are unable to offer any refunds. No refunds will be given for weather or health related conditions.
  • We offer a 10% discount for AAA members, Good Sam members, and active military. Membership #'s and active military duty verification are required at the time of booking.

There is a very large front porch on Big Bear Cabin which directly overlooks Humpback Mountain. On clear days, there are also really amazing long range views of Mount Mitchell that can be seen on the left side of the cabin. The front porch is roughly 480 square feet and has a large 4 person Hot Springs brand hot tub (i.e. the best hot tub brand in the world) overlooking the surrounding wilderness as well as the short and long range mountain views. It is a one-of-a-kind experience relaxing in the hot tub on a clear night with the outside porch lights turned off looking up at the millions of stars in the sky. You will think you are in a planetarium.

Bear Den consists of over 400 sparsely developed acres and is located inside Pisgah National Forest. There is a lake with sandy beach area for swimming, fishing (no North Carolina fishing license needed), paddle-boating (for rent), and canoeing (for rent). Bear Den has miles of hiking trails, a waterfall, two fun playgrounds for the little ones, basketball court, horse-shoes, volleyball and badminton, shuffleboard, ping-pong, arcade, and recreation hall which hosts entertainment seasonally. There is also a trading post which carries basic groceries, ice, drinks, firewood, souvenirs, information on local things to do, etc.

Packing up to head back to Michigan. Just heard we are getting snow while it is supposed to be 57 degrees here today. Had a great time with family. Shared lots of stories while sitting in the hot tub after our hiking trips. We hiked to Crabtree Falls, well worth it. We saw some tracks that made lots of conversation for the evening. Very nice cabin away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Great place to recharge!

We came here for our annual ski trip to Sugar Mountain! We could not have chose a better place! The view was unmatched, the mountains, the trees, and the stars make this place feel magical. The hot tub was exactly what we needed after skiing and snow boarding all day! The experience was unmatched and we can't wait to come back! We started the year off right!
