FISHING - Dorado, Marlin, and Yellow-Fin Tuna: The Puerto Vallarta fishing area is located on Mexico's open, central Pacific coast at about latitude 20 degrees north. Puerto Vallarta's offshore sport fishing water temperatures range from the low-70s in February-March, to the high-80s in August-September. During the summer-fall months of June-October and into November, the peak yellowfin tuna season brings tuna of all sizes, including huge fish pushing close to the 400-pound class, to Puerto Vallarta's outer waters. Closely following as water temperatures and sea conditions stabilize from about September onwards are peak seasons for dorado (also called mahi-mahi), black marlin, blue marlin, sailfish, and wahoo. Inshore fishing for jacks, snappers, and other species is always available, with a good midsummer roosterfish run during July-August, jack crevalle peaking during February-March, and the various pargo or snapper species. Excellent fishing much of the year--especially for really huge tuna and marlin. We can make reservations

BEACHES - the best in the Bay of Banderas: Unargueably, the best beaches in the Puerto Vallarta area are on the north shore - Destiladares, Manzanilla, Sayulita, Bucerias, and San Pancho (also called San Francisco). The beaches here are endless: you could easily walk along its medium-coarse beige sands from La Cruz all the way south to Nuevo Vallarta. The surf is gentle enough for swimming but also has body-surfable waves. The best beaches for surfing and boogie boarding are Destiladares and Sayulita.

La Cruz - charming fishing village: La Cruz de Huanacaxtle is home to the new 400-slip Marina Riviera Nayarit which includes world-class fishing charters - e.g. dorado (mahi mahi), huachingo (red snapper), sailfish, and marlin. 7 Golf Courses surround Casa Parota. Along with numerous fabulous restaurants, beach clubs, and sightseeing. La Cruz is located in the center of the newly-emerging North Bay area, which extends from Bucerias to Punta Mita (home of the Four Seasons Punta Mita), and beyond to Sayulita and San Francisco (also called San Pancho). 7 Golf Courses nearby - and more golf courses being added every year. Two more courses nearby coming online at the emerging Ritz Carlton located at the new Fonatur resort area between Punta de Mita and Sayulita.

About Amy or Bill Welch

Mexico is wonderful - the first thing people ask is, 'Is it safe?' We have driven all through Mexico and have had wonderful experiences from Merida to San Miguel de Allende, the Copper Canyon, Guadalajara, Zacatecas, Oaxaca, and throughout the Puerto Vallarta region. Come experience the magic of Mexico - the food and people are fantastic and welcoming.

Why Amy or Bill Welch chose La Cruz de Huanacaxtle

La Cruz has so much to offer - world class fishing for marlin, mahi, rooster fish, sailfish, and tuna. Then there's always restaurants, music and meeting great people!

Guestbook comments from the manager

Our trip was outstanding. I was so pleased to see the same cook and housekeeper still caring for the guest and Sabrina and Lar’s wonderful retreat. The new swimming pool and outdoor area is such a plus! Thank you for all that you did to make our stay eventful. We advised the manager there are a few things that need to be repaired so we hope he is following thru. I will look forward to future times at this property. Hugs

On a Scale of 1 to 10 it is 100!!!!

WOW….. The house ……well as we have told everyone….on a scale from 1 to 10 it is a 100!!!! Thank you so much we had a wonderful time. Gaby was awesome and very helpful. We enjoyed every moment it was so relaxing. Thanks again for all your help & patience while planning this trip we look forward to doing this again. This time there will not be as many questions as we will now be “seasoned” travelers. Again thank you – you made our vacation very memorable. We want to try and make this a yearly “get away." Just a note, the guys fished Tues, Thurs, Sat and did wonderful. Tues – 40lb Dorado & 95 lb Sail Fish – this was a wonderful dinner, Thurs – 20 lb dorado & 350 lb black marlin, Sat – only one fish caught but took 5 hours to boat – 600 lb blue marlin. Unfortunately, they did not enter the tournament or would have taken 1st but they know for next year. So needless to say we had a wonderful trip – thanks again for your hospitality.

Casa Perla

  • 5 of 5

The house is amazing. All six bedrooms are fantastic, the kitchen is well equipped and large. Beautiful plants and flowers adorn the pool area and the interior courtyard. Location near the marina is a huge plus, and if you like fresh seafood, there is a fish/seafood market just a block away, so you can grill fresh lobster tails and prawns for lunch or dinner or you can rent a boat and go fishing or whale watching. Highly recommend this house for families.

College Spring Break Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Wow was the first word the popped into my head when i stepped foot in this exquisite house. Prior to my arrival i saw many pictures of the house but this is one you really need to see to believe. The house is very elegant yet inviting quite homey at the same time. Beng college students we loved having the house keepers around making our vacation that much more relaxing. The pool was always refreshing and i saw a pool maintenence out checking to see if the water was perfect for us every morning. You could not ask for a better location of the house. It is a short drive to anywhere you need to go and the beaches only 10 minutes away are what you think of when you think of vacation in mexico. The marina is right below the house with plenty of fresh fish caught daily. There are plenty of resturants for the whole family just walking distance away with excellant bars for the younger crowd. Great memories were made at this house and i am hoping to visit it again in the future! I appreciate all the great hospitality!

Spring Break 2012

  • 5 of 5

My friends an I were expecting a good Spring break this year when we decided to go to Mexico. We Knew that Casa Perla was nice but, when we arrive it was more than anything we had ever expected, nothing less than paradise. All of our needs were catered to down to the very last detail of the car waiting for us at the airport so we were not inconvenienced with a cab. The house keepers made our trip even more care free along with the check-ins from the property manager to make sure that everything was going smoothly. The house is in a great area with the perfect balance of tourism and your own privacy. The marina just below the house gets fresh fish in every morning at the fish market and provided for some amazing meals. Everything was just a short drive away no more than 30 or 40 minutes and had some amazing beaches just around the corner. This trip was one that will never be forgotten and we will hopefully be returning to this little slice of paradise in the future.

...that's how I would describe our time at Casa Perla and La Cruz. We were a group of 40-something high school girlfriends getting together for a "girls' week" in Mexico--or, more appropriately put, a "moms' week off" vacation. I found Casa Perla simply by searching online. I still can't believe how lucky I was to have come across this house and Amy and Bill Welch. Simply put, the house was awesome and our time in Mexico was amazing. We chose to have the maid come every day and the cook to come in one night for a relaxing dinner served in the palapa. For five moms, it was a perfect cleaning, no cooking, and no kids to look after. Just hanging out at the pool was heavenly. I stayed in the room located below the palapa and enjoyed an outdoor shower every day.

Renting the minivan with the house was convenient and gave us the freedom of travel. It was there at the airport when we arrived. We stopped at the Mega Comercial in Bucerias on the way to the house, loading up with groceries and drinks. We also were able to drive up to Salulita, about 20 minutes north, where we enjoyed a day on the beach and a nice dinner.

Thank you to Gabby, the local property manager. She was helpful and very friendly.

We are all looking forward to possibly doing it all again next year. And if we do, we will definitely rent Casa Perla, again.

La Casa Perla

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from a wonderful week in La Cruz @ La Casa Perla. It was so convenient to have the car waiting for us at the airport. From there, we were able to go to Costco and stock up for the week. Although there are many other places to shop along the way to the house.

We were 2 families; 4 adults and 5 children under 12. The house was tastefully decorated with local artisans artwork and wood carvings. The 2 master bedrooms made it ideal for our families. The older children loved the bedroom under the palapa away from the adults. The palapa was a fabulous place to have drinks and dinner overlooking the marina and the Bay of Banderas.

I highly recommend Lupita and her sister who came to cook for us almost every night. They were the best meals we had in Mexico. Our special request was Seafood Paella Valenciana which they served in the open air palapa al fresco.

The location of the house was ideal and was close enough to Puerto Vallarta. But, what we really enjoyed was visiting all the local beaches such as Salulitas and Rincon de Guayabitos (a true locals beach-No tourists! and well worth the drive-we recommend Suite Costa Allegre for an all inclusive day pass). At PV marina, we hired a catamaran for the day which took us to Yalupa which was out of this world in beauty and serenity. You can get to the waterfalls by horseback.

There was air conditioning in every bedroom which we needed at this time of year. The pool was always refreshing and perfect for our girls. There is also a very lovely outdoor shower which we used often.

It was wonderful having Lupe; the maid come in daily to take of us as well as Gaby who spoke perfect english and made sure our stay was comfortable. The washer and dryer was also nice to have available for our use.

It was very convenient to have the Vonage phone to call the states as well as internet access. We even printed our boarding passes from the house!

We all left La Casa Perla relaxed from all the in-house massages, tan, and content. We were able to take the car to the airport which reduced our stress and made us wish we could find such service here in the states. The Mexican people were so warm and friendly and incredibly happy.
