Guest Comments : ...thanks for your place. It was wonderful. Just perfect for me and my family…It really hit the spot overall...we really unwound and found time for Bar Harbor, the west side of the island, Ellsworth, the lumber jack show, golf, kayaking, whale watching…, hiking in the park….we loved it and hope to return again in the future. Thanks again for making it possible.----

Guest Comments : We just returned from our vacation to Maine a few days ago—wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed Goose Cove Cottage! It was even more than we expected….I don’t think I told you before the trip: my parents’ favorite vacation spot has always been Maine, but because of their age, they haven’t been back to Acadia National Park for over 10 years; so we put together this family trip so my folks could return there, and the cottage turned out to be the perfect spot for us. Thank you—

Guest Comments : Wow - what a lovely home! We had a great time - thank you so much. Everyone commented on the comfortable beds, lovely bedding, beautiful kitchen, and of course we loved the videos and big TV! The house was perfect for us all…we'd love to have stayed longer.----

THE place to stay when going to Acadia!

  • 5 of 5
Words can't properly describe the amazing experience we had when we stayed at the Goose Cove Cottage. Of all the places we've stayed over the years, this place was the cleanest, nicest, and as close to a perfect experience as one can have for lodging. The location is great, you're close enough to explore all of Acadia while far enough away from the crowds. You're only a few minutes from local restaurants and shopping is about a 10-15 minute drive.

The property was dead on perfect. The second we walked in the house, we felt like we were at home. I can't say enough about the property owner as well, she took better care of us before and during our stay than I could have ever imagined. During our week long stay with a 2 year old (this is a great place for kids by the way), we explored the normal "touristy" parts of Acadia as well as some of the other far flung places of the park. The cottage's location made this incredibly easy to do. It was nice being able to come back and cook a nice meal after hiking/chasing a 2 year old around. Bar Harbor is about 20 minutes away, and the main gate for Acadia was about 15 minutes. You'll appreciate the quietness of the cottage being just over the bridge on the other side of Mt. Desert island when you come back from a day of wandering around Bar Harbor when there are cruise ships visiting.

As you can tell, we would absolutely recommend this as a place to stay when going to Acadia. The price is right, and you'll be staying at a place where you can truly relax. We can't wait until we can get back here again, because we know we are guaranteed to have a great trip.

A rarity!

  • 5 of 5
It is not often that we get time with our children and their spouses. June's warm reception both on the phone and with a beautiful gift basket when we arrived at the property. Her home was ours for a wonderful four days.
The location of the home was convenient to the Trenton lobster pound, Bar Harbor and, of course, Acadia.
It was perfect for our family of six.

Owner's Response: The cottage has hosted a number of small family reunions and it is a privilege to play even a tiny role in these events. It is particularly gratifying to know that everyone there has had a great time and will go away with some wonderful memories. This guest mentions something that is always at the top of my list when I return for a visit to the area. Just 5 minutes from the cottage, there are several "lobster pounds" that sell live lobsters to the public. You can select the size and quantity right from the water tanks and they will bag them up for you to carry home to cook. They also offer other seafood such as steamers and mussels. During the season, a few of them will even cook your entire order for a small fee and then wrap the order up in newspaper to keep everything hot. On the occasions when I am there visiting during the season, I always choose this option. In 5 minutes, I am back at the cottage and unwrapping dinner while melting some butter in the microwave. The Trenton Lobster Pound is right before the bridge onto Mt Desert Island and in the summer has a dining area for those who would prefer to sit and enjoy their meal right on the premises. They also have a great view overlooking Blue Hill Bay. "Thank you!" to this guest for the lovely review and I am so glad that you had a wonderful four days!

Perfect for a family, especially on a rainy day!

  • 5 of 5
We stayed at the cottage in July with our two daughters (5 and 7 years old). The movie selection was amazing, and it was very organized. We had a fun time playing games from the many choices. The cottage was located a little farther from our hiking destinations than what we realized but the travel time was a trade for the comfort of the cabin. June was so thoughtful to leave us a welcome basket of yummy goodies and we enjoyed preparing some of them for meals. We have told many friends about the cottage and about Acadia!

Owner's Response: The cottage is outfitted with a variety of "distractions" that are available to guests in case of a rainy day or simply for those who would like a little "down time" from the abundance of activities that are available in Acadia National Park and the surrounding area. I am so glad that this family had an opportunity to make use of some of them. For those who are interested in hiking and biking, the National Park boasts over 120 miles of trails and carriage roads with varying degrees of intensity. There is a rather interesting history attached to the development of the hiking trails and particularly the carriage roads of Acadia. For more information, visit the Acadia National Park Website (www.nps.gov/acad/) and explore "Things to do" under "Plan Your Visit." Travel time to access points vary a little as Park lands are scattered over two thirds of Mt Desert Island. Most will average from approximately 10 to 20 minutes, give or take a few minutes. And, all of them offer a different perspective and a more "romantic" feel of the island than one would experience from simply driving the Park Loop. I would definitely recommend, if at all possible, making time to see a few of the stone bridges to be found on the carriage roads.

Wonderful visit at Goose Cove Cottage

  • 5 of 5
My wife and I vacationed in Acadia the week after Labor Day. We stayed at the Goose Cove Cottage – and we found that the whole experience was great. For the cottage, everything was immaculately clean when we arrived. The bed in the master bedroom is also very comfortable. The cottage is fully stocked with everything from kitchenware to a washer / dryer (very helpful for week-long stays!) and there is even a large collection of Blu-Ray DVDs with an entertainment center if you come home exhausted from hiking one night!

It’s not far away from the National Park itself and if you need supplies it’s also close to a well-stocked grocery store and another, larger grocery store a couple more minutes north. We used it every day as a “base camp” for hiking and kayaking in Acadia National Park.

The owner is also very helpful and attentive if you have any questions at all. Additionally, the property itself is also very quiet.

We would repeat this visit if/when we come back to Acadia!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for this gracious review. I always enjoy discussing the Acadia region and assisting guests with additional information where I can. It actually rekindles my enthusiasm for return visits to the cottage and the area, which I do several times a year. Since the cottage is approximately central (with respect to travel time) to a lot of attractions and shopping, nothing is too far away. I personally appreciate the convenience of grocery shopping in Ellsworth where there is a wider selection (and better prices). In the other direction from the cottage, the bridge onto the island is just minutes away. And, from there you are just a short travel time along scenic drives to a selection of quaint harbor towns, great restaurants, fun souvenir shopping, and ocean vistas scattered all over the island. It has worked well for me, and I am always pleased when others recognize that it is a great kick-off point for their various activities. And, if guests are interested in branching out to areas a little further afield, there are any number of destinations that are easily day trips, i.e. Schoodic Peninsula, Camden/Rockland, Stonington, Campobello Island, to name a few. As to these guests, they were a delight to host and a repeat visit would most certainly be welcomed.

The mouse house

  • 1 of 5
Yes, you read the title correctly. The third morning we were there, we saw mouse droppings all over the kitchen table & counters. There were ants as well. The Orkin man came to the house to investigate and fill in some holes. In the basement there is a case of mouse traps. Clearly the house has had ongoing problems with mice. I personally saw a mouse running around the living room. In the basement we saw 3 dead mice.My husband & special needs child both got sick from the mice. Mice carry lots of deceases. As for the house itself, The photos in the listing on VRBO, are very misleading. The house has much more clutter in it then the photos suggest. The small gazebo in the photo is not there, in its place is a very large gazebo, with no furniture or electricity. I think at some point the home owner was thinking of putting in a hit tub or something. As for the street, It is a major cut through for locals & tourists alike. We heard traffic noise at all hours of the day & night. Not very relaxing. The recycle bin had not been emptied in quite sometime. Needless to say, we left a couple of days early. I feel I have a moral obligation to worn people about his property. I do not want anyone else getting sick. I hate having to write this review. I hope I was of some help. We do have pictures to prove my review.

Owner's Response: The reviewer’s party notified me of this development 5 days into their stay. We were all taken off guard by the situation and I was naturally distressed on their behalf that there should be any disruption during their visit. I took immediate remedial action and staff was at the cottage a few hours later that same day. Orkin came a few days later and followed up. This situation has now been resolved and there have been no further incidents with subsequent guests. In fact, I received the following email from a guest who departed the next week and who did not know of these prior guests: “I didn't see your email until today because yesterday was a travel day for us. We had a wonderful time at Acadia / Maine and everything in the cottage was great. It was clean, comfortable, quiet and relaxing - having laundry washer/dryer was a big plus too because we packed more long-sleeves than short-sleeve clothing and it ended up being 80 everyday! We really don't have any negative feedback! Next time we're in Maine we'd repeat the visit.” (Received 9/7/14) There are a couple of things that mystify me about the party that posted this review. First, they refer to the basement (more accurately a cellar) which is a low-ceilinged and locked storage area with a sign posted “employees only” above the door—it is definitely not living area and it is not meant for guest use. Yet, they were in that restricted area. Secondly, based on the severity of this review, I wonder how it was that they were able to tolerate staying nearly two weeks (12 nights/13 days) at the cottage, only leaving the Thursday before Labor Day weekend to return to Long Island. In any case, I believe that all of the positive reviews posted will address most of her other complaints. However, if there is any part of her review that is of concern to you, please feel free to email me or call me and I would be happy to provide you with additional information.

Beautiful, peaceful cottage.

  • 5 of 5
Goose Cove Cottage was simply beautiful. We were happy to discover that Trenton was a perfect location for day trips to Bangor, Bar Harbor and even Canada. The cottage was equipped with everything needed to cook at home and absolutely roomy enough for us all to lounge around in the living room watching all those DVD's. We would absolutely recommend this property to anyone looking to visit Maine. June, Thank you again for sharing your beautiful home with us. We had a blast visiting Maine....
