Guestbook Comments: 'I haven't been this relaxed in 5 years! I love Maine but especially Spruce Head and the Lobster Docks' G.L - N.Y.............*******************

'As I write we are packed up and ready to leave. We have had to drag ourselves from the deck and leave that beautiful view behind. We really could have sat there all day. We will certainly recommend your place here and this part of Maine'. Andrew and Irene E - Liverpool, England 8/15/2008*********

October 1st, 2010: 'First I must thank you both, John and Kate, for providing us with a lovely, quiet, comfy home for the week. As chief cook I was pleased at the well-equipped kitchen - it had everything we needed!'Helen and Fred L. - North Carolina **********

September 25th, 2010:''What was it that differentiated your place from the seemingly hundreds of others I looked at? It's usually a gut feeling and I was right again! Thanks for your special consideration and, hopefully, we'll be back!' Hank and Sue D., Massachusetts *********

A few more...: September 18th, 2010:'We've loved our relaxing week in your well-supplied cottage. Rockland area is Maine at its best and your cottage is in a well-placed spot for all sorts of pleasures in every direction - and it's a sweet place to come 'home' to at the end of each day's adventures' Gerry and Peter H, Gloucester, Mass********

July 10th, 2010:'As we hurry to tidy up - it is a bit sad to be leaving. The cottage was a warm and friendly place to rest and a nice home-away-from-home. Thanks for the tips and hints on the Lighthouses and especially Clark Island - spots we never would have found on our own. Great tips to help us have a good time. The fog of the last 3

days has been amazing and subduing at the same time. We know there is an ocean out there in front of us...just...over...there, but it is shrouded in a thick, moist off-white mist(that has got to be the bane of the local lobstermen) but endlessly fascinating to us.' Ed, Cindy, Jake and Teri S. Walled Lake, Michigan

This Classic Maine Cottage is situated in a safe, quiet and friendly Village Neighborhood, within walking distance of a Post Office, Church and small General Store. Spruce Head Island, attached to the Village of Spruce Head by a small bridge, has two fishing docks where lobster boats bring in their catch daily. Two miles away is the 'Gig', a typical Village store, (well-known for fresh lobster and crab-meat rolls), perched on the edge of the harbor, near the Reversing Falls. The harbor, or salt water estuary, is a popular spot where you can fish from the bridge or alongside the water's edge, casting your line for Stripers. Rockland, a 10 minute drive away, has become an art mecca with many galleries including the famous Farnsworth Museum housing Wyeth and Winslow Homer originals. Rockland has an old-fashioned brick-fronted downtown with an active waterfront and is the home of several three-masted schooners that take passengers on daily or weekly cruises along the coast of Maine.

Other Activities: Eating Lobster Dinners and homemade pies at 2 waterfront outdoor restaurants in the immediate area.

We loved staying here, the cottage was cute, comfortable and had everything we needed. The area is simply beautiful & you can walk over to lobster markets to purchase fresh cooked lobsters & sit on the deck & enjoy dinner & your surroundings. We stayed a week & it was so relaxing. The owners are very nice & do everything they can to make sure your visit is enjoyable.

We spent 4 weeks in this cottage and loved every minute. The views and breezes surround you. The seating areas were inviting and comfortable with plenty of room. The beds were great too. I enjoyed the fully equipped kitchen and even did a little baking. Everything was spotless clean and welcoming. There are two deck areas outside and nice plantings to enjoy.
The cottage is in a wonderful walkable village but still less than 10 minutes to US1. It is away from heavy traffic so walking and biking are great. Kate and John are very nice and made us feel like welcomed guests. They shared lots of local information and even a couple secret recipes.

A cozy, welcoming cottage with a lovely view, 38 Village Rd. in Spruce Head had everything we wanted and needed in a rental. We have searched for a place to which we could return each year and we have finally found it here. Comfortable seating both inside and out on the decks. Nicely equipped cook's kitchen and squeaky clean throughout. A quiet place to relax and a location convenient for day trips. Best of all, local owners John and Kate called and stopped by to personally make sure we were comfortable and satisfied with everything. By far, the best experience we've had with any of our 14 trips to Maine. John and Kate couldn't have been more kind and we look forward to seeing them again next year! We highly recommend this property!

The Kate & John cottage in Spruce Head, Me suited us for our one week’s vacation just fine.
A nice down east cottage with all the amenities such as washer/dryer, TV, radio, secure WiFi, etc.

The cottage was absolutely clean and neat when we moved in and we hope we left it the same way on our way out. We hope incoming vacationers will do the same. This property demands respect.

The cottage is located in a quiet area of the village so if relaxation near the Maine shoreline is the order of the day then no problem.
We recommend that the Transportation Museum and the Sail and Power Museum in the area be visited. Both are of high quality, staffed by dedicated persons, and privately funded. They deserve a visit.

The State parks in the area are also worth a visit. One can hike in the Camden Hill park or if physical exercise is not your thing, or you are unable to do strenuous hiking then one can motor up Mt. Battie for a spectacular view.

Town waterfronts and main streets provide pleasant outings. Great boutiques and restaurants not far away from the cottage. Of course there are stores for everyday needs such as groceries.
Down east architecture is to be experienced.

A wide variety of restaurants are available. We chose to cook in the well equipped kitchen of the cottage and dine in the great atmosphere available at the cottage. Foggy morning breakfasts were a treat.

If shopping on a large scale is your thing, then cities such as Freeport are not very far away.

This is a windjammer area so there are many offerings available with sailings of different time lengths and a variety of on-board servings.

A great location where the mountains meet the sea, the scenery is great, and the ocean surf beating the shore is a relaxing tonic.

The one negative we had was the travelling west to east across the state of Maine, the roads in general being of very poor quality. However, the roads in the coastal tourist area were in good shape and a pleasure to travel after the rough roads inland. Roads north/south seem to be of good quality.
Bad roads should not deter one from visiting. Drive slower and safer – enjoy the scenery.

We LOVED this cottage! We travel extensively in/out of country and rent houses whereever we go. This cottage and the gardens have been lovingly restored by gracious owners and the view from inside and on the decks is serene and quintessential Maine, just like you've dreamed of! The pictures ARE accurate as is the house and area descriptions. It really is a peaceful lane with owners walking their dogs, bikeriders and neighbors calling out a "good morning" and waving! The owners are GREAT and very interesting as are the neighbors, they will answer any questions you might have! The home is very comfy with well-supplied kitchen, nice livingroom furniture and firm beds and excellent outside furniture! The only thing missing is a radio/CD (if you like music). The lobster is reasonable and very easy to get to either by walking to the lobster pound, going to the docks or right at the nearby grocery, "Seastore" .There is a wonderful, packed bookstore a few minutes walk over the bridge where we bought Maine cookbooks for very cheap $. They are a nice memento! We enjoyed an Irish nite out at Billy's tavern in Thomaston (10 mins. away) and had good food and fun, Thomaston Cafe is good for breakfast and lunch, Takeaway food from Deb's Diner was THE best Haddock and chips, Moody's Diner for 4 berry pie, so delicious, there is an excellent bakery across from Moody's on Rt.1 for fresh baked breads, etc. and try to get to Morse Sauerkraut Specialty Store (North Waldoboro) for all kinds of meats, pickles, cheeses, candies, pastries and much more! We also enjoyed the Anchor restaurant,on the water, near Friendship. We bought lots of lively fresh Lobsta, mussels, shrimp, crabmeat and scallops from Creamers (near Waldoboro on Rt.1) and on SpruceHead, to cook back at our lovely Maine cottage because we couldn't get enough of the view! We also LOVE the excellent drives in/out of coves and antiquing. Their is sooo much to do here or nothing....... but gaze at the view, if you prefer! There are nice beaches nearby, lighthouses and state parks. Great to have washer?dryer! Don't miss this cottage! We will be back to Mid-Coast as soon as we can! Thanks John & Kate
