Casa de Sophia is a lovely 2 bedroom, 2 bath house on 2 floors, fully furnished, local phone and high speed WI-FI service, right in the quaint village and easy walking distance through town to the beach. The beautiful house has Mexican tiles throughout, hand-painted ceramic bathroom sinks, river rock shower floors, Mexican leather/wood furnishings, high ceilings with fans, and is decorated with colorful local art.
Downstairs are the office/media room, a fully equipped kitchen with festive linens and dishware, quality kitchenware and cutlery, and all appliances. Off the kitchen is the living room/dining room and guest full bath. Through double parota-wood French doors is a large tiled patio that spills out into the lush tropical gardens, with 60' coconut palm trees, tropical plants, flowering vines and shrubs, and a high masonry wall for quiet and privacy. A deep-blue tiled swimming pool completes the garden oasis experience.
Upstairs is an incredible open air living room/dining room with a high palapa-thatched roof and views of the jungle mountains. Large comfy couches are perfect for lounging and entertaining. The master bedroom with queen bed has its own tiled balcony through French doors, overlooking the gardens and pool below. Also upstairs is the cute guest bedroom with two twin beds, and a full bath.
And to top it off, twice a week, a friendly housekeeper and handy gardener keep Casa de Sophia at her best for your wonderful vacation holiday. Additional housekeeping services are available at 200 pesos per visit.
I am a university marine science communicator and my husband is a master yacht captain. We both love to travel, explore, and sail, and San Pancho is our favorite place in Mexico.
I am a stickler for a clean, attractive, unique, and well-managed home. Casa de Sophia is all that and more.
San Pancho is such a great town. Unlike Sayulita which is beset with poor sanitation, huge crowds and traffic and Punta de Mita which is overpriced and pretentious, San Pancho is an authentic coastal village with historic and modern Mexican culture (music, art, food, handicrafts) that make it unique and lots of fun to explore. The people are friendly, helpful, and enjoy visitors. It's a village that succeeds in bridging the cultural gap between Mexicans and Americans/Canadians/Europeans/whomever so that you feel a member of the community, and not just a tourist. And the San Francisco Chronicle newspaper Travel Section in Sept 2011 rated San Pancho as one of the most fun and SAFEST destinations in Mexico.
The things I enjoy every time I return to Casa de Sophia are: slowing down my lifestyle by lounging at the pool; preparing local, fresh and inexpensive meals in the great kitchen; practicing my terrible Spanish with a tutor that comes to the house; enjoying the tropical beauty of the palms and hibiscus blossoms in the gorgeous garden oasis; having friends over and lounging upstairs in the large open air palapa livingroom on warm evenings.
Casa de Sophia is just a short walk to Entre Amigos, a non-profit bi-lingual community center, where you can take classes in yoga, Spanish, dance, or enjoy their art festivals and lecture series. Children can take art classes, use the children's library, or learn dance and theater. Also close by is the San Pancho Polo Club where thrilling evening matches of skilled riders and beautiful horses can be viewed while enjoying cocktails and incredible dinners.
