The Good... The Bad... The Ugly...

Good...Overall I enjoyed my stay in this condo. The condo is nicely decorated in an eccletic style and has a beautiful view through it's two story windows. It also features a spacious floorplan ,where a family of 8 such as mine could spread out and a spacious third floor terrace. The pools and the beach were nice and not too crowded. The Aquatika Resort also has alot of security which is very necessary in the town of Loiza.
The Bad... I found the condo needed quite a bit of maintenance work. The washing machine drains into a sink that was leaking and which someone had blocked with a rag. It flooded the laundry room the first time I did the laundry. We called our contact person and he said he was not aware of any problems and left it at that. So unless it was fixed, this place does not have a working washing machine! The kitchen was poorly furnished if like me, you like to cook. There is no can opener, no cutting board, or sharp knife to speak of and the fridge was smelly and had a bunch of old food in it.
The Ugly...Although I realized from online research that the town on Loiza is rather poor... I did not quite realize that if you go and stay at this resort you can only venture out during the day. Although this can be said of other places as well for example Jamaica. Once the sun goes down you really NEED to stay inside the safety of the gated community. On three occasions while were sitting on the third floor terrace we clearly heard gunshots. All three times from the same location. We also saw police lights almost every evening. In the evening you also should not venture out on the beach as it is not inside the gates and can be accessed by any anyone. They do however have a security guard posted near the beach gate at night.
I want to end this by saying that the Yunque (rain forest), Luquillo Beach and the Morro were amazing and that I loved Puerto Rico and plan to return next year!
