A few niggles, but overall ok
We stayed at the Wasilla House for 3 days at the end of our time in Alaska, and despite really looking forward to our stay there were a few niggly things that let the property down. The pictures were obviously taken when the house was first built, and the house has since been filled with the owners possesions - which made it feel like we were intruding on their privacy during our stay. We also weren't told that a lodger lives above the garage, and the $120 cleaning fee for our 3 days would have been ok, but we were greeted with old soap with hairs attached in the shower, as well as dirty coffee cup and coffee maker, and filthy dishes, which didn't give off the best feeling. The location was ok, but it's really just a suburban house - I think we were just expecting so much more so were a bit disappointed.
However, the kitchen is wonderfully well stocked with cooking utensils and herbs and spices - the 'fire' kept us warm while watching the Northern lights, and despite us adults having a few misgivings, the kids absolutely loved the property. The table tennis was a big hit, and we had many monopoly games, card games, and fun family times sledding down the driveway. We also enjoyed watching the neighbourhood moose, birds and squirrel, and Suzie the dog was hugely appreciated by our kids - she was a definite highlight. So in the end we had a lovely couple of days - thankyou.

Owner's Response: We take great pride in "raising the bar" for vacation lodging and personal service to our guests. The owners keep this house in pristine condition, providing immediate repairs for even the slightest bit of damage. A luxury log home, it is built with top quality materials, is beautifully decorated with an Alaskana theme. The chef's kitchen features a five burner gas range, subzero refrigerator with a bottom freezer, a broad range of appliances, including a Keurig coffee system, spices, paper products, and all soaps.
Our longtime housekeeper who is licensed, bonded, and totally trustworthy, keeps this stunning home in immaculate condition. All of the cleaning is handled by her personally, including checking dishes, pots and pans, and appliances. In fact she even does a final check on the entire house an hour prior to the arrival of new guests.
I regret failing to mention the apartment over the garage, but I really had to "go the extra mile" to accomodate this reservation. I had just few short days in which to organize the rental, with all the back and forth communication involved, along with processing a VRBO credit card payment. It was difficult to maintain contact with the renter since he and his family were traveling by train in the Alaska interior. It took some hustling on my part to make all the arrangements. The apartment is listed on my personal website which is where the renter found the vacation house.
The owners are sorry the gentleman was disappointed and wish him, "Aloha".
