Important information the owner didn't tell us

The house was pleasant -- worn, but well-maintained -- and in a good location, walkable to the ferry, about a block from a small general store and the ocean, and a ten minute bike ride from two different beaches. There is, however, one major problem with the house: after heavy rain, the leach field beside the house can flood and when that happens, the toilet stops flushing. There is a porta potty about two blocks away and an indoor toilet in the library (it would have been nice if the owner had mentioned this when we first experienced the problem, though the library is only open a few hours a day during the week anyway) a five minute bike ride away. When we called the owner to report the problem, he told us that it had already happened to renters a few weeks before us and that there wasn't anything he could do to fix it.
The long and short of it is, it rained a lot during our week in the house, and we didn't have a working toilet for the last two and a half days. We wish the owner had been more forthcoming and had let us know ahead of time that this might happen.
