The cottage yard has both shady and sunny spots for relaxing all day long. There is a fire pit just a few feet away from the beach for evening entertainment, as well as a nice sandbox for the kids in the yard close to the water. Just imaging sitting at the end of the 150’ dock dangling your feet in the water, watching the sunset, or fishing for that “big one”. The water here is knee deep and clear with a sandy bottom. The drop off is over 150’ out. Getting over to the dunes will be easy in our rowboat with motor, or paddleboat. Of course, you are welcome to bring your own boat or jetski. We have a boat tie all set up for you.
. There is access to the channel that runs from Silver Lake to Lake Michigan (great for kids to explore or canoe). The beach where the channel meets Lake Michigan makes a great place to enjoy the “big lake”. Little ones can play safely in the warmer channel water, while the older ones can enjoy the waves, watch the sunset or walk to the lighthouse. This beach and The Little Sable Lighthouse are just a bike-ride away on the new bike path that is only blocks away.
Silver Lake is world famous for its sand dunes: between Lake Michigan and Silver Lake are 2,000 acres of moving sand dunes. Open to the public to drive your dune buggy, jeep, truck, or 4-wheeler. The dunes are divided into three sections. The northern area is reserved for off-road vehicles where licensed drivers can test their sand driving abilities. The center region is for hikers and has access to both Lake Michigan and Silver Lake. The southern section is leased to Mac Woods Dune Rides. These are long, open-top jeeps that people of all ages can ride in and experience the dunes. Of course, hikers are welcome in this area as well, just be sure to look before crossing the dune buggy tracks.
