Wapping is on the edge of London's financial heart, the City but even closer to the capital's most famous landmarks. The Tower of London and Tower Bridge are a short walk away and the nearby banks of the River Thames are dotted with some of Britain's oldest pubs. Charles Dickens set many of his novels in and around Wapping. River taxis stop here, taking visitors by boat east to Canary Wharf or west to the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben. The nearest Tube stations are Tower Hill and Shadwell (DLR). Liverpool Street, with a fast service to Stansted Airport, is a short bus ride away. Both City Airport and the Excel exhibition centre are easily reached by DLR from Shadwell.
