Overview

Traverse City Cabin Rental Photos and Description

7 Log Cabins on a Private Peninsula

Reserve this property for your family reunion ( or just one cabin for your family ) and here is what you will get... Your own Private Peninsula - off the highway, in the woods, on the lake.. at the end of the road, quiet, private and secluded. Seven Cabins, Seven Row Boats - 3 with 5hp outboard motors for fishing and an 8 passenger pontoon boat for exploring the 459 acres of Spider Lake with all of it's bays, coves, islands, sandbars and sandy bottom warm swimming holes. Read our 40+ reviews at property # 158840 & look at the RATES section to see what we have open each week. We have all sizes of places around the lake, so let us know what you are looking for. Sorry, no pets on the property please.. not even to visit ..thanks !

Family Quality Time: Bring the family up for some quality time. Bring them to a place that time forgot. Remember going up north to the lake as a child? Well bring your children to the same place. Bring them to a place for some good ole fashion R & R. Bring your favorite board games, books, deck of cards, beach toys and fishing poles. I bet they don't ask for a TV all week... a miracle... After fishing, and swimming and chasing each other around, after dinner and a bonfire with roasted marshmallows and s'mores... they'll hit the hay and never even notice the TV is not there. Rainy day -- that's when the games come out... or a trip to town to the Children's Museum - waves of wonder, or just a wet day outside... even if it wasn't raining, they'd be wet... right?!!! Rainy days are when the fish bite best... so hopefully you'll get at least one while you are here. We love pets, BUT they are not allowed on the property and will be asked to leave.

You don't need the whole family to:: Come up to the North Woods for a Color Tour Weekend - everywhere you go up here is a 'Color Tour' - cruise the lake on a pontoon boat (rentals available here) visit a winery, casino, or fabulous restaurant - we have plenty in the area. Hiking and Mountain Bike Trails nearby for a real color tour thru the Pere Marquette State Forest. This cabin will accommodate one couple, and we have 7 cabins here - and we have other accommodations on Spider Lake for larger groups too, Ask about a Cozy Log Cabin with Fireplace viewable from bed with special linens and comforters and your own private Hot Tub on the Screened in Porch !

Traverse City has never been a better place to visit. And having your own little cabin in the woods is the best way to truly experience the north woods.

Peaceful, Tranquil, RELAXING!

  • 5 of 5

Harold's Cabin was the perfect place to get away and relax. Particularly in the winter, the cabin is pretty isolated, so you really feel like you have time to THINK! The fireplace keeps the cabin at a perfect temperature, and the bed is extremely cozy. I loved the little touches that Kathy left: the cinnamon tea, coconut body wash, the local information (you can tell she knows the area!).

Within a short drive, you can get into town (Don's Drive-In is close, and the food is terrific!). Downtown Traverse City was about 30 minutes for me, and this was under pretty bad road conditions. It was awesome to experience Traverse City in the winter; it was quiet, but everything was open. I went to the Bayou Theatre, which I strongly recommend -- the staff is extremely nice and welcoming, and the theatre is adorable and cozy. Also drove up to the Old Mission Lighthouse, about an hour drive in the weather, but so worth it! Along the way, you will drive next to the Bay and pass vineyards and road stands selling cherries, syrup, etc.

Overall, a wonderful experience - can't wait to return in the summer!

Owner's Response: Yes Winter is Special - even more of a Quiet, Private and Secluded feeling especially coming during the week - you may be the only one here ! And even though you feel isolated in the woods, it's a very safe place to be - so relax and enjoy ! This one was brave to venture out during a Winter Weather Advisory - but if you take is slow and aren't in a hurry, and stop and "smell the roses" along the way - you will not only make it to your destination but will find some gems along the way - just like she did. Long Overdue Review

  • 1 of 5

Forgive the delay in writing this review. My sister and I drove up to Michigan from MO for a kayaking vacation and booked Cabin #1 at this "resort". It was poorly maintained with torn screens, worn-out mattresses and some type of animal feces under the dresser in the common area. I dropped a rock and it rolled under this dresser on the 5th day of our stay - disgusting. This caused us to look under our dressers and beds!!! Uugghh! PLEASE hire a cleaning person. We stayed out of the cabin as much as possible during our week there. Why did we stay? The lake is lovely, we had prepaid and had driven 1000 miles already. This could be such a nice place if it were properly cleaned and updated. We have no plans to return EVER. Please email me if you'd like photos of the dirt and disrepair.

Owner's Response: First we want to apologize to these guests for this experience. It is obviously not the experience we want our guests to have. We are disappointed that we were not told of this for months. We would like to know about any problems ASAP and have a chance to correct them. Over our 25 years here we have worked hard to maintain and clean the cabins and give our guests a true Up North, On the Lake, In the Woods experience at this one of a kind beautiful spot. Nothing like this has ever happened in our 25 years here. We have 6 listings here at “Homeaway” with 12 other reviews here at this listing and a total of over 100 reviews for all 6 and if you read them all.. Nothing has ever happened like this before. And now that we know about this, you can bet that we will make sure it never does. You can always contact us for a personal explanation. Kathy

Love it!

  • 5 of 5

We love Harold's Resort! It is peaceful and private. An "unplugged" week with family is priceless. We swam (love the water and beach), fished right from the shore, saw turtles, took out the row boat, swam more and even had a pontoon ride with Rolf. My daughter and I really liked the visits from Buffy(RIP) too. There is no better place for a family vacation! We can't wait to stay again! Thank you Kathy and Rolf!!

Owner's Response: Do you find yourself telling the kids turn off the TV to go out side and play ? Well we have done the turning off the TV for you... Everyone can "go outside and play here - Swim, Splash, Make a Sand Castle, Fish right off Shore or go out in your own Row Boat and "catch a big one" ! The kids will be getting plenty of Up North Fresh Air and by the time the Fire burns down in the Community Bon Fire Pit - they will be exhausted and forget that TV... at least for a week... This is the Simple Life - the Summer at the Cottage that you remember when you were a child -- no TV, no Microwave, the log and knotty pine Cabin on the lake - lots of trees and sand, the chipmunks, the woodpeckers, the muskrat that hangs out around here ( some kids think it's a baby beaver ! and that's ... OK ) and Yes .. there is indoor plumbing and even Cold and HOT water !! in fact some of the cabins even have the Water Heater right on the bathroom for "instant" hot water. Bring your own sheets and towels - when you are laying in bed on your own sheets and your own towels are hanging in the bathroom - it will feel like your own Cabin in the Woods - at least for your week it will be...

Such a Beautiful Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My girlfriend prodded me into taking a vacation during the time that she was off work. She works for a school system, so we found ourselves leaving town during Presidents' Day weekend. I left all of the planning up to her; she said that she found a cute little place for us to stay up north, and, for what it was worth, I was excited.

We arrived on Friday afternoon and pulled up to our new home for the weekend. I found it hard to keep my mouth shut: I asked her if 'that was the shipping container that we'd be sleeping in.'

Oh my, how I was wrong. Yes, the cabin looks tiny and metal on the outside. It's far from that once approached. As I walked up to the door, my apprehension turned to absolute delight.

We walked in to our adorable little weekend home and settled in. Harold's Resort Cabin #6 has a delightfully cozy bed (I'm pretty sure they put pillows under the sheets, because I've never slept so soundly) a cute little kitchen with gas stoves (I don't even have gas stoves at home!) and adorable decorations everywhere. There's a gas fireplace that keeps the place toasty-warm at all times, too!

We spent the long weekend here, exploring traverse city, snowboarding at Caberfae, hiking through the northern wilderness, and just enjoying our time together.

I would recommend this trip to anyone wanting to get close to their significant other. It is absolutely beautiful up there; so much so that it defies words. Kathy is amazing, and responded immediately to our inquiries.

I could not have imagined a more perfect vacation. I can't wait to stay there again.

-Kevin V. and Mary L.

Just booked our return trip to Harold's

  • 5 of 5

I am so looking forward to returning to Harold's this coming July! We stayed in cabin #1 a few years ago and couldn't be more excited to be going back. I already am thinking about which board games to pack for family evenings spent playing games on the screened in porch. Harold's is a perfect family get away. The kids loved the beach and swim area. The water stays shallow for quite a distance so even younger swimmers can play without it being too stressful on mom and dad. During our last visit we went fishing almost ever day and didn't come in once without having caught at least some sunfish. My little guy fished right from shore and caught a small bass. A large turtle made a visit to the beach one afternoon to the thrill of our boys. Harold's is just a wonderful place to make family memories. It is not a fancy hotel with TV's in all the rooms. It is a place where life slows down and families reconnect. There is just nothing like waking in the morning to fresh air from the open window and the sound of the loons calling from the lake!!!

Owner's Response: This family knows how to spend quality family time ... together. You don't have to drive or fly to a far away land. You don't have to go to a fancy five start hotel. Just drive north a few hours and you will be transported to a simpler quieter time, where families, couples, kids find that good ole fashion fun is MORE FUN and MORE RELAXING and the Livin' is easy. Cooking your own meals... together, hanging out and playing beach games.. together, fishing... together... playing board & card games.. together... Exploring the surround areas.. Brown Bridge Quiet Area, Sleeping Bear Dunes, Grand Traverse Bay... together. Together... is a GOOD place to be !

DISCONNECT AND RECONNECT

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect way to disconnect from the fast pace of our normaly world filled with facebook, internet, texting, cell, etc., and return to basics. Although our 13 year old was not excited at first....she was thrilled once we were in the middle of this wonderful vacation. The cabins are well maintained and perfect for a simple relaxing vacation. If you are expecting hotel quality it may not be what you are looking for. However, if you want to reconnect with your family and have some good old fashion fun.....THIS IS THE PLACE FOR YOU!

Owner's Response: This is exactly what Harolds Resort is all about -- a place in the quiet woods, on the lake in the middle of nature to be together with friends & family-- brings out the "kid" we all have deep down inside !
