Photos and Description of the Traverse City vacation cabin rental
7 Cabins with kitchens for 2-6 each- total of 26 people

Reserve this property for your family reunion ( or just one cabin for your family ) and here is what you will get... Your own Private Peninsula - off the highway, in the woods, on the lake.. at the end of the road, quiet, private and secluded. Seven Cabins, Seven Row Boats - 3 with 5hp outboard motors for fishing and an 8 passenger pontoon boat for exploring the 459 acres of Spider Lake with all of it's bays, coves, islands, sandbars and sandy bottom warm swimming holes. Read our 40+ reviews at property # 158840 & look at the RATES section to see what we have open each week. We have all sizes of places around the lake, so let us know what you are looking for. Sorry, no pets on the property please.. not even to visit ..thanks !

Family Quallity Time: Bring the family up for some quality time. Bring them to a place that time forgot. Remember going up north to the lake as a child? Well bring your children to the same place. Bring them to a place for some good ole fashion R & R. Bring your favorite board games, books, deck of cards, beach toys and fishing poles. I bet they don't ask for a TV all week... a miracle... After fishing, and swimming and chasing each other around, after dinner and a bonfire with roasted marshmallows and s'mores... they'll hit the hay and never even notice the TV is not there. Rainy day -- that's when the games come out... or a trip to town to the Children's Museum - waves of wonder, or just a wet day outside... even if it wasn't raining, they'd be wet... right?!!! Rainy days are when the fish bite best... so hopefully you'll get at least one while you are here. We love pets, BUT they are not allowed on the property and will be asked to leave.

Scrapbook Weekends: Fall, Winter & Spring: Did you know that 'Girls just wanna have fun! ' Well gather up your friends, sisters, mothers and neighbors! and choose either a Scrapbook or Sewing Weekend Retreat! Come and Scrapbook your Family Memories... This is where you get to have all the fun, work on a project or take a class and learn something new with all the girls! No cooking, No cleaning, No husbands or kids (bless their hearts!) The work room is open from Friday 2pm 'til Sunday 2pm - come and go as you please.... Six fabulous meals provided! With Dessert, Treats, Snacks & Beverages. Eight weekends per year to choose from - contact me and I'll set you up! Kathy

You don't need the whole family to:: Come up to the North Woods for a Color Tour Weekend - everywhere you go up here is a 'Color Tour' - cruise the lake on a pontoon boat (rentals available here) visit a winery, casino, or fabulous restaurant - we have plenty in the area. Hiking and Mountain Bike Trails nearby for a real color tour thru the Pere Marquette State Forest. This cabin will accommodate one couple, and we have 7 cabins here - and we have other accommodations on Spider Lake for larger groups too. September 13, 14, 15 Traverse City is hosting it's 4th annual Epicurean Classic - 80 events including: Classes, Demos, Tastings and Dinners. Ask about our 3 night packages that include: 3 nights accommodations for 2 people - a Traverse City Cherry Pie from Grand Traverse Pie Company, 2 tickets to the Tasting Pavilion, your choice of Friday or Saturday 12 noon - 4pm, a Cozy Log Cabin with Fireplace viewable from bed with special linens and comforters and your own private Hot Tub on the Screened in Porch !

  • Cabins # 1,2,3,4,5 - each have 2 'bedroom areas' each with one double bed - each 'bedroom area' gets curtained off from the main room at night, giving it a very open log cabin feeling during the day. For this reason.. each cabin is best for one family.. ie: 2 adults + 1-4 of their children. Not much privacy for 2-3 couples sharing a cabin. Cabins 1/2 also have a full futon sofa bed in the Main Room if needed. Cabin # 4/5 - also have a 'sleeping loft for kids' with 2 twin beds - suggested ages for the loft are 5-12 yrs.. the kids have to be able to climb up a ladder (and back down) and the ceiling is very low up there. Think 'pup tent' only when you bump your head -- it's a knotty pine ceiling - not a canvas tent. Cabin # 6 - is a Cute and Adorable Little Studio - for 1 or 2 people - no room for a porta crib or baby bed. Cabin # 7 - is set up more like a little house - with 2 separate bedrooms + full futon sofa bed in Living Room.

Such a Beautiful Getaway

5 of 5
Submitted: February 22, 2012 Stayed: February 2012
My girlfriend prodded me into taking a vacation during the time that she was off work. She works for a school system, so we found ourselves leaving town during Presidents' Day weekend. I left all of the planning up to her; she said that she found a cute little place for us to stay up north, and, for what it was worth, I was excited.

We arrived on Friday afternoon and pulled up to our new home for the weekend. I found it hard to keep my mouth shut: I asked her if 'that was the shipping container that we'd be sleeping in.'

Oh my, how I was wrong. Yes, the cabin looks tiny and metal on the outside. It's far from that once approached. As I walked up to the door, my apprehension turned to absolute delight.

We walked in to our adorable little weekend home and settled in. Harold's Resort Cabin #6 has a delightfully cozy bed (I'm pretty sure they put pillows under the sheets, because I've never slept so soundly) a cute little kitchen with gas stoves (I don't even have gas stoves at home!) and adorable decorations everywhere. There's a gas fireplace that keeps the place toasty-warm at all times, too!

We spent the long weekend here, exploring traverse city, snowboarding at Caberfae, hiking through the northern wilderness, and just enjoying our time together.

I would recommend this trip to anyone wanting to get close to their significant other. It is absolutely beautiful up there; so much so that it defies words. Kathy is amazing, and responded immediately to our inquiries.

I could not have imagined a more perfect vacation. I can't wait to stay there again.

Just booked our return trip to Harold's

I am so looking forward to returning to Harold's this coming July! We stayed in cabin #1 a few years ago and couldn't be more excited to be going back. I already am thinking about which board games to pack for family evenings spent playing games on the screened in porch. Harold's is a perfect family get away. The kids loved the beach and swim area. The water stays shallow for quite a distance so even younger swimmers can play without it being too stressful on mom and dad. During our last visit we went fishing almost ever day and didn't come in once without having caught at least some sunfish. My little guy fished right from shore and caught a small bass. A large turtle made a visit to the beach one afternoon to the thrill of our boys. Harold's is just a wonderful place to make family memories. It is not a fancy hotel with TV's in all the rooms. It is a place where life slows down and families reconnect. There is just nothing like waking in the morning to fresh air from the open window and the sound of the loons calling from the lake!!!

Owner's Response: This family knows how to spend quality family time ... together. You don't have to drive or fly to a far away land. You don't have to go to a fancy five start hotel. DISCONNECT AND RECONNECT

This was the perfect way to disconnect from the fast pace of our normaly world filled with facebook, internet, texting, cell, etc., and return to basics. Although our 13 year old was not excited at first....she was thrilled once we were in the middle of this wonderful vacation. The cabins are well maintained and perfect for a simple relaxing vacation. If you are expecting hotel quality it may not be what you are looking for. However, if you want to reconnect with your family and have some good old fashion fun.....THIS IS THE PLACE FOR YOU!

Owner's Response: This is exactly what Harolds Resort is all about -- a place in the quiet woods, on the lake in the middle of nature to be together with friends & family-- brings out the "kid" we all have deep down inside !

Harolds Resort

We loved the lake.... the views of the lake from cabin #1 were very nice. If I am going to be totally honest, I wasn't in love with the cabin itself.... overall I would say it was pretty good, the kitchen was well stocked with everything that we needed to prepare meals so that was great. the beds weren't bad.. the BATHROOM however was NOT GOOD. the ceiling was rotted and falling apart, the shower was really gross and the toilet kept running. Now, we know it's a rustic cabin and that was to be expected but maybe an update and cleaning in the bathroom would help. another thing that I was sad about was that kathy the owner seemed so friendly over E-mails when we were preparing to come and I was really looking forward to meeting both her and her husband. The one interaction we had with the owners was when my husband came down to the office to ask about the bonfire and he met Rolf. (sp) he was nice but we were really thinking that at some point we would receive a personal welcome from them aside from the note on the table. I just felt as though it was thier job to come introduce themselves to us as we were the guests. I am not saying we didn't have a good time, because we did.

That Up North Feeling

We've stayed at Harolds Resort twice over the past few years and are headed back again this week for a few days of R&R. The cabins and surroundings really give us that "up north" feeling we are looking for. Finding a cabin with a screened in porch isn't easy these days but Harolds has them. Spider lake is is beautiful. The no wake policy in the early morning and evenings makes for great fishing and peaceful lake time. Easy access to Traverse City and the Sleeping Bear Dunes area caps it all off. You can't go wrong with a week at Harolds. Enjoy!

Owner's Response: The "no wake policy" is one of the best things about Spider Lake. Keeps the lake extra quiet in the morning before 11 am and after 7:30 pm. Other things we love about Spider Lake -- Most of the home/cottage owners on the lake have not cut down all the trees between their house/cottage and the lake- when you are cruising around the lake - each one looks tucked away in the trees - for privacy and an "up north" wooded feeling. The lake is also fairly shallow ( 15' average) which helps the water warm up nice and quick in the Spring & Early Summer - it's ready to swim in by Memorial Weekend. Some property owners let the old/dead trees fall into the water along undeveloped waterfront to make places for fish to live & breed - making Spider Lake a good fishing lake -- all kinds of pan fish, bass, blue gill, n. pike etc.. And....you will not find a gas station or marina on this lake - no oil spills, means clear, clean sparkling water ! Rent a fishing boat, kayak or pontoon boat from us and explore the beautiful Spider Lake with all it's "legs", bays, coves and islands !
