This place is awesome! Great location, extremely clean and up to date.
Thanks for sharing!!
Great place, very nice, loved hearing the music on Sat nite and Sunday afternoon, from the Bar an Grill across the Road. Good store for food with-in walking distance. I hope people take care of this place, as we would love to come back. Dave/Carol J. Stockwell. Hillsdale, MI
This is an extremely well kept cottage that served my family (of 7) and I very well during a recent week long vacation. It is located right next to the lake and there are a couple restaurants/bars/and gas stations in walking distance. It is also about 40 minutes north of Grand Rapids, which is a lovely city with many things to do. The deck is as nice as you see in the picture - we ate many meals out there. The only caveats with this rental are that the restaurant and bar across the street can get very noisy on the weekends and there is no major grocery store or Walmart/Target close by (all 30+ minutes away). That being said, I highly recommend this rental. The owner, Robert, is kind and very helpful and will go to great lengths to take care of you.
The pictures do not communicate the feel of this quaint get away. Even though it looks small it is very roomy and cozy. The quality of the furnishings are very nice. It as been our experience with cottage rentals, that we were getting "garage sale" necessities. This is not the case here. The owners have taken extreme pride in their investment and have "shared their best with their guest. Cant wait to go again.
We simply wanted to do some canoeing in the Newaygo area and found this little cottage centrally located. We haven't seen a home built and furnished with such attention to detail before. You will not be disappointed here. Excellent little getaway for my wife and I. Much needed rest and relaxation. The porch was excellent for eating breakfast and dinner too! Lovely little sun room as well. Everything was in perfect condition and quite comfortable. Across the street from a dock where you can launch your canoes or kayaks. If you don't need waterfront, this is the place for you! Nice little neighborhood too.
We discovered the cottage on the homeaway site when looking for lodging for a long weekend of kayaking. The location was perfect – close to Wisner’s to rent our kayak and Newaygo State Park where the rest of our group was camping. This is an annual trip for us and while we love the outdoors, we’re a bit long in the tooth for camping outside. We prefer the amenities of an indoor bathroom and a warm, soft bed.
The cottage was perfect. Very clean and recently updated. The kitchen was very well stocked with anything you might need, including wine glasses, paper goods and anything you would need to prepare a meal. My husband loved the cable TV selection and I spent a lot of time in the sun room or the deck reading. The deck has a great view of the water. The bedroom was very roomy and comfortable and had lots of closet space. The bathroom was spacious and there were plenty of towels.
I found that the area around the cottage is great for running since there is a large “subdivision” of cottages behind the cottage. I could get up in the morning a get a nice, quiet run in without having to deal with much car traffic. We also took a few nice, long walks in the area around the cottage during our stay.
The cottage is also very close to a few good restaurants and an IGA. We had several great meals at the Rio Café which is very short walk from the cottage. Rio also had window service for ice cream cones and other ice cream treats.
We were a bit concerned about the fact that a bar/restaurant was directly across the street from the cottage, but it was not a problem at all. We were there during a busy weekend and every night it closed fairly early and all was quiet by 11 p.m.
The owner, Robert, was a sweetheart. He was very easy to work with and gave us great suggestions for activities in and around Newaygo. He does a great job keeping the cottage updated and clean. He was always easy to reach and provided several numbers for us to use if we needed to contact him during our stay.
I would recommend the cottage for a couple looking for quiet getaway (like us) or a family looking for an place to stay that is close to water sports, hiking and other outdoor activities The only thing would make the cottage more desirable for larger groups would be an additional bath or half-bath. All in all, this was one of our best rental experiences and when we come back to Newaygo to kayak again, we will definitely stay here.
Croton is located approximately 45 miles north of Grand Rapids, MI. The cottage is rural enough to provide a peaceful getaway, yet central enough to be within easy driving distance of several major cities. The lake is surrounded by heavy woods and provides a beautiful view all year round.
