Great location, poor condition

I have rented in Truro for 37 years and was very dissapointed by this house. I would strongly advise against renting it. While it shows well on the web, make sure you take a hard look at the pictures. Its spacious, has great views and you can walk to the beach access path, but the condition of the house is poor and there are multiple owners who were not responsive. We don't usually rent the upper end of houses, so we are used to the middle of the road conditions (as we always bring our pooch). When you rent a house for this price (we usually rent a 3BR in the same area near Pond Road for much less) you expect it to be clean, things not to be broken, and the owners to respond to your call. Couches are old, rugs are dirty, many windows don't have screens so it was sweltering, it was not clean upon arrival (which the owner admitted but did nothing about), doors were broken, kitchen counter had black mold, poison ivy was creeping over the path to the side porch, the outdoor shower had no hot water pressure, the TV room downstairs seemed like a great room but the windows had no screens so you could not sit in the stuffy room and the list goes on.
The house has multiple owners and they were not responsive. First owner admitted that the cleaning service had not come prior to our arrival but was unwilling to compensate us for that. The second owner showed up four days after our call with a gas tank for the grill, but of course by that point we had already bought one.
Most importantly, all renters should know that there is a second house behind the house (same driveway) so if you are looking for privacy this is not the house for you!! I have in writing an email from first owner confirming that the second house would not be occupied and one of the owners showed up mid week and stayed in the second house for the remainder of our stay and stopped by to see us a couple of times!
We rented August 2009 and it was a disappointment, as this is a wonderful property, poorly taken care of and you don't want to risk a week of vacation dealing with the multiple owners, especially when stuff is dirty and broken.
