This quaint 1920's cottage with spacious back yard is perfect for a family of five. Featuring cypress cabinetry and moldings, hardwood floors, fireplace, an abundance of windows and a wonderful sun porch that's perfect for enjoying wine and cheese. Eat at the 7ft. dinning room table or outside on the picnic table. The bathroom was renovated in 2007. There is a washer and dryer in the basement.

This is a great spot to either hang out and relax or to use as a base camp after a long day of hiking, biking or kayaking. Walking distance to Bass Harbor, restaurants, Swans Island Ferry Terminal and Bass Harbor Lighthouse. 3 miles to Southwest Harbor and 20 minutes to Bar Harbor. Acadia National Park with its lakes, mountains, beaches and hiking trails is easily accessed by bike or car.

Very relaxing with gourmet kitchen

We spent a week at this charming cottage with my son and his girlfriend. The home had a warm and welcoming atmosphere. There was enough space that we could have time together or time alone quite comfortably. We like to cook together so would get fresh seafood and cook it in the well equipped kitchen and then enjoy a relaxing dinner in the nice dining room followed by cards or games they had in the cottage. The beds were comfortable. We would stay here again.

Delightful!

We stayed here for a few nights for leaf-peeping in the fall. We found the cottage to be wonderfully whimsically decorated with thoughtful little touches. The kitchen was spacious, the bath immaculate. We loved the earth-friendly products for cleaning. The dining room was big enough for a large gathering or for crafts or game playing, and was quite sunny.

The location was great. We usually have stayed in Bar Harbor and this felt much more quiet and not nearly as hectic. We were happily surprised by the high quality of the restaurants we found nearby. We thought they were some of the best we have had in Acadia. We recommend Cafe 2/Eat a Pita especially. Also the hiking was beautiful, and we hardly met a soul on the trails.

We would definitely return to this charming rental again! Thank you!

The Best of Both Worlds

For us, this cottage lived up to what the Web site promised. What we found upon arrival was a bright, airy, clean and quiet house. We felt very excited. The kitchen has everything needed to prepare and serve food to a party of two or a family. Environmentally-friendly cleaning products are provided, which is a nice add-on. We sat in the garden a few times and had coffee in the morning, getting our first intake of ocean air of the day.

The location is very convenient, at a walking distance from the wharf and one or two restaurants specializing in fish and sea food. It is also possible to take a boat from the pier and explore Frenchmen’s Bay. Many hiking trails are accessible at a short driving distance and the surrounding villages, including Northeast Harbour where Marguerite Yourcenar lived for 37 years. Her house, Petite Plaisance, is open to visitors during summer months. The Bass Harbour lighthouse is only minutes away. Getting to Bar Harbour, the Park Loop and Park Rangers programs takes about 30 minutes by car.

We found this cottage offers the best of both worlds: peace and easy access to what Mount Desert Island has to offer.

Cute and clean Bass Harbor cottage

We loved the cottage: very charming, clean, bright and comfortable. We loved the decorations around the house, such as the kelp chandelier in the hallway and the huge lobster hanging on the wall in the kitchen. I thought the fresh garden flowers on the table when we arrived were a nice touch.

The house is in a good location within easy walking distance to Bass Harbor itself and close to the lighthouse. There is a good lobster restaurant just around the corner on the water front (no need to drive!). We often spent our evenings out at Sea Wall (beautiful views, picnic tables and rock pools for the kids to play in) which is only 5 min drive away.

Although there is no TV, there are plenty of books and games to entertain yourself with in the evening or if the weather is bad. The kids loved the bunk beds and the toys/books in the kids room came in very handy. The bathroom is nicely remodeled. The kitchen is basic, but contained everything that we needed. We would definitely consider staying here again.
