'Hale o Naia' - The House of the Dolphin, is an exquisite vacation retreat in the gated community of Kapoho Beach Lots. Situated on a beautiful cove off of Kapoho Bay, this is one of the few places on the east side of The Big Island where you can enjoy swimming, kayaking and snorkeling right off the lanai. The top floor Master Suite with its king bed has a large covered private oceanview lanai with an extra sitting area, suana, half bath and a full bath with whirlpool tub. There is a small kitchenette with it's own mini frig, microwave and coffee maker. The Four-Poster bedroom has a private oceanview lanai, a shared full bath with jacuzzi tub and luxurious step-up four poster bed. It also has a mini frig and microwave. The Bamboo Room has a beautiful bamboo framed full sized bed and shared bath and sauna, with ocean view. Rent one room and share the large full kitchen, lanais and comfortable livingroom area, or take the entire house for your family or group.

The area of Puna is very rural and lush with vegetation. There are tunnels of trees that you pass through and papaya fields and horse ranches to drive by on your way to the beautiful turquoise water of Kapoho Bay. You can lounge in the thermally heated waters of Champagne Pond and the hot ponds of Ahalanu Park. Or snorkel the Waiopae tidepool reserve close by. Travel the scenic 'Red Road' down to the clothing optional Kehena Black Sand Beach, or go to the end of the road at Kalapana where the lava from Kilauea Volcano wiped out the town. Just 10 miles away, the small eclectic town of Pahoa is still much as it was during the turn of the century with it's wooden clapboard buildings and sidewalks. Some of the best restaurants can be found here. This is only about 20 minutes drive to the currently flowing lava which is best viewed at night for the glow. Volcano National Park is about a 30 minute drive. If you enjoy waterfalls, this side of the island offers the best choices.

Property Amenities: This special oceanfront home is tastefully decorated with works by notable and local artists. There are lots of places to relax, read a book, write letters, rest or just meditate to the sounds of the surf. Included are: a 6 person outdoor hot tub, ocean views, wireless internet access, satellite TV, movies on DVD, a sauna, covered lanais, a large fully equipped kitchen, kayak, snorkel gear, a gas barbeque grill, washer and dryer, ceiling fans throughout, board games, bocci ball, croquet and the beautiful cove just ready to slip into a few feet away. Enjoy fresh bananas off the trees in the yard. If renting by the room, you may swap stories with other guests in the livingroom and share recipes in the kitchen. Or, if you like total privacy, you may rent the whole house for your family or group. Many folks have held small, intimate weddings on the lawn overlooking Kapoho Bay here. Sorry, no toddlers or children under 8 years of age. 'infants okay'.

No pets allowed, but you may enjoy the owners' pets on the property.

My family enjoyed "Hale o Naia" immensely. The location covers a wide spectrum of tastes. We split our vacation in half for the difference of opinions. We enjoyed snorkeling in the bay with the sea turtles and the marine life, as well as the sunbathing in the yard with the sound of the surf in the background. On the sightseeing days, the eastside of Hawaii is amazing. From jumping off the cliff in KaLae (southernmost part of the USA) to exploring the waterfalls at the north end of the island. Everything in between just depends how adventuresome you choose to be.

Wonderful Family Vacation

Our family has just spent a wonderful nine days at the House of the Dolphin's. The house is beautiful, the perfect setting for our tropical get-away. The drive from Hilo through tree covered forest set the tone for our island visit; and the house itself, with views from every room of our own diving lagoon and the incoming surf was ideal. Everything was provided; scuba equipment for diving in our own lagoon amid hundreds of tropical fish and several big turtles, kaiaks for trips out into the bay, and gear for your trip the the evening lava flow trip 30 minutes down the coast. A Beautiful Tropical Setting with lots of activities. What a wonderful vacation! And, our hostess always provided the perfect ideas for dining and site seeing that added to our enjoyment.
