My family routinely rents cabins and houses for our vacation accommodations, preferring to stay in more spacious and comfortable surroundings than what is routinely offered by hotels and inns. Quite honestly, “Grouse House” (you’ll understand the meaning of the name when you stay here) was one of the best rental experiences I’ve ever had. The house is fully equipped with everything you need to “live” there – there are plenty of towels, pillows, sheets, throws, cookware, dishes and glasses. The house is equipped with all major appliances and having a washer/dryer not only helped us to cut back on what we packed, but allowed us to return home with clean clothes instead of piles of laundry.
The house itself is set far enough away from neighboring properties to give you the feeling that the vast acreage is your own private wilderness. Watching deer wade through the tall grass while you sip your morning coffee on the deck is a truly unique and memorable experience. A rugged walk through the wetlands to the shore of Lake Champlain is also a treat – kids will love it just for the adventure! While we didn’t Kayak or canoe this trip, we were told by neighbors that taking a vessel out on the lake in the late afternoon can be a truly awesome experience.
I think one of the best parts of the whole experience was being in a completely rustic environment when at home yet knowing that great restaurants, specialty markets and gift shops were only a short drive away.
If you want to get away from everything but not feel stranded, this is the place to go.
