Cozy and rejuvenating!

Our stay was amazing. This spacious home had a fully equiped kitchen with a fireplace. The master suite had a very comfortable mattress and beautiful bathroom. We enjoyed hiking the property and standing at the edge of Lake Champlain.

During meals, we could view the lovely field through the windows or sit on the porch and see the pond. Although it was the summer, the window screens kept insects out and breezes wafting through the house.

The property felt secluded and yet we could drive to shops if we needed anything in five or ten minutes.

In addition, the house and property were well maintained and clean.

I would highly recommend this property to a friend or relative.

My family routinely rents cabins and houses for our vacation accommodations, preferring to stay in more spacious and comfortable surroundings than what is routinely offered by hotels and inns. Quite honestly, “Grouse House” (you’ll understand the meaning of the name when you stay here) was one of the best rental experiences I’ve ever had. The house is fully equipped with everything you need to “live” there – there are plenty of towels, pillows, sheets, throws, cookware, dishes and glasses. The house is equipped with all major appliances and having a washer/dryer not only helped us to cut back on what we packed, but allowed us to return home with clean clothes instead of piles of laundry.

The house itself is set far enough away from neighboring properties to give you the feeling that the vast acreage is your own private wilderness. Watching deer wade through the tall grass while you sip your morning coffee on the deck is a truly unique and memorable experience. A rugged walk through the wetlands to the shore of Lake Champlain is also a treat – kids will love it just for the adventure! While we didn’t Kayak or canoe this trip, we were told by neighbors that taking a vessel out on the lake in the late afternoon can be a truly awesome experience.

I think one of the best parts of the whole experience was being in a completely rustic environment when at home yet knowing that great restaurants, specialty markets and gift shops were only a short drive away.

If you want to get away from everything but not feel stranded, this is the place to go.

Escape to Nature

Submitted: April 14, 2009 Stayed: August 2008
We thoroughly enjoyed a wonderful summer vacation on Lake Champlain. My teenagers were busy all day kayaking and biking, Day hikes were just a short drive away. This was a real escape from our busy, everyday lives and a great opportunity for family time. The lovely reproduction house had more than enough room for six people and everything we needed was at hand. The house was clean and comfortable.
Our favorite time of day was late afternoon/early evening, when we savored a relaxing dinner on the deck right off the kitchen. The spacious kitchen had all of the equipment we needed to prepare sumptuous meals (even a birthday cake!) The open Great Room gave us plenty of room to visit while cooking. We sampled treats from the local cheese and chocolate shops as well as fresh picked produce from the near by farms.
It was great setting for our summer vacation and we can't wait to go back.

Think Twice

This is a lovely place on first sight. However, located on wetlands and in the heat of the summer, it is intolerable. There were no screens on the windows or the doors and mosquitoes and moths come in by the hundreds upon each entry. There is no air conditioning and only 2 fans that could not possibly bring relief to the house. And because the house is located on wetlands, expects lots of frogs and snakes.
Owner's Response: Our home is located on sprawling open lawn ideal for nature lovers and those who love the outdoors. The large lower deck provides a pleasant area for sitting and eating with views of open fields and woods. There are new screens on the doors and windows. As you can read and see on our web page, the large property allows for a multitude of opportunities that include walking to the pond, strolling through the forests, crossing over a marshy area that is abundant with wildlife and canoeing at daybreak (or other times) to view wildlife and birds. (Oh, I must mention the wonderful “Fromagerie Fritz Kaiser”, cheese store, 10 minutes away in Canada.) Looking forward to having you enjoy our lovely home.
