The beach, the arcades and amusement rides, nightly entertainment, auto races and harness racing are favorite activities in the Old Orchard Beach area. Old Orchard's Pier is the center of the recreational activities. Extending nearly 500 feet over the Atlantic Ocean, the Pier features shops, fast food, and games of skill. During the summer many special events are planned to entertain and mesmerize everyone in the family festivals, fairs, free concerts, street dances, and fireworks most Thursday nights. Besides the Pier, the beachfront businesses offer gift and souvenir shops, restaurants, nightclubs, and arcades. Or, if you are so inclined, Old Port in downtown Portland offers great shopping, dining, pubs, minor league baseball, and much more. A little further north are the outlet shops of Freeport featuring L.L. Bean.

Things to do: Enjoy the beach! Great boogie boarding, skim boarding, fishing or sunbathing. The beach is also big enough for kite flying, ball tossing and other sports. If salt water isn't your thing, jump in the heated, indoor swimming pool. If you like venture off the beach, visit Two Light State Park and climb the massive rocks, experience miniature golf within walking distance,or visit Portland for a Duck Boat tour. There are so many things to do and see, you'll never get bored!

Luxurious side of Old Orchard

We go to Old Orchard every year and stay in Brown smelly overpriced motels, Old Orchard style! This year, we wanted to check out the Grand Victorian, since it's new and impressive. We have a 4 year old daughter and shared the condo with my brother's family, which have 2 young children. For 2 families, the condo was great because they took the master bedroom and had plenty of space for the baby cribs. We took the guest bedroom, which had a double bed with a simple bunk on top, so my daughter loved that. Each family had their own bathroom and there was plenty of space in the common rooms. We already love Old Orchard, but this was just a bonus. Since we shared the costs, the condo was cheaper than most smelly hotel rooms!! So this experience really convinced me that next year, we are renting a condo. The only down side to the Grand Vic is that the beach at the center, near the pier, is where all the campers go so there's a lot of people, and also, the beach is in a slope and the sand is quite harsh at places. We prefer the East side of the pier. However, the place is as fancy as it seems! And it was great to be right next to the pier for the amusement park and shops. There is also a very nice inside pool, which we enjoyed on a rainy afternoon. All around very nice!
