Winter wonderland cabin

Irish clan eastampton, new jersey
Review Submitted: September 27, 2009 Date of Stay: January 2009
Our family of four spent a nice winter weekend at this cabin. We used it as a base for Elk Mountain. The cabin was very clean, well maintained and the bedrooms were very spacious, especially the main bedroom on the second floor. The living area was cozy. If you don't have a four wheel drive we recommend you park on the top of the hill and carry your items into the cabin. We really enjoyed our stay there and we are planning to do it again.

Vacation in May

Lovethecountry New Jersey
Review Submitted: June 19, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
This is truly a beautiful log cabin, has all the amenities, is very clean and everything is in great condition. The owners gave an accurate description of the cabin on the website and were great to work with. My husband and I, along with our dog, stayed for 6 days in May. The weather was beautiful, but got cold at night, so the fireplace was so nice! The satellite TV and DVD player were nice in the living room, which only seated about 2 people comfortably, but there is another TV and couch in the finished basement for the kids, perhaps.
We went sightseeing on the motorcycle, head north on 191 for a nice country drive towards Hancock, NY in the Catskills. Honesdale is 10 miles south and has plenty of shopping. We did not go out for dinner, rather brought everything and cooked in the nice kitchen. The back deck with picnic table is great to eat outside.
C&S stables is right around the corner on route 191 and offers very nice horseback riding with lessons at reasonable rates. The owners, Clarence and Sue, were such nice people, took us out for a lovely 1-hour ride through country trails. You have to call in advance and make reservations, they have a website.
There is somewhat of a trail from the house to the pond, a little bit of a distance from the house. The owners have a rowboat in the garage that we used. I was under the impression that the boat would be by the pond, but there is no way that you can carry the boat to the pond, instead, we had to put the boat in the back of the truck and went to the lake 1 mile away for a little fishing. (with no luck :).
We went to Ricketts Glen state park for a 3-mile hike through waterfalls and woods. Truly beautiful, but about 1.5 hours away if you are up for the drive (I think it's worth it!). There weren't many state parks in the area for hiking, mostly private land, so you may have to travel a bit if interested.
The only complaint I have is that the Queen bed in the master bedroom is a little uncomfortable, but perhaps I'm just used to my pillow-top! Other than that, it was a great little vacation in the mountains. If you have kids, the sleeping arrangements are nice, the kids bedrooms are downstairs and the master bedroom is upstairs; the master bedroom is large and has a couch and its own bathroom with shower.
Overall, very pleasant experience and I would definitely recommend this property!

Wonderful Get-away

Toons Reading, PA
Review Submitted: August 6, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
Great property to get away. Very accurately described. Clean and well equipped. Deck on back great for sitting out. A number of lakes that they call ponds close by provide great kayaking/canoeing opportunities. Travel west on Rt. 371 to Upper and Lower Wood Ponds. They are both surrounded by State Game Lands and one day we were the only people on the pond at Upper. Wild turkey, deer and black bear seen during that trip. Duck Harbor Pond which is right up the road was very active with powerboats, water skiing etc. but these other two only allowed electric motors and are very remote and private. There is also a great biking trail that starts in Forrest City, the D&H trail, a rail to trail. It runs both south and north and is very well maintained. You can get information on a website for D&H Trail. It is about 20 minutes away. Of course, Elk Mountain is about a 30 minute drive and is very easily found. The cabin can be whatever you want it to be, very peaceful and quiet for a relaxing time or as a base to explore the many areas. Nature lovers will like this. Don't rely on any close by stores for supplies. Take everything you need or buy in Honesdale. Not many choices close by for people who like to eat out.
