Overview

Franklin House Rental Photos and Description

Upscale Rustic- 3 Bedrooms + Lower Level Guest/Entertainment Suite, Sleeps 8

This mountain home sits in the woods on 2.5 acres with a small natural spring fed stream trickling alongside. So serene. A terrific deck faces the stream and features an outdoor fireplace so you can enjoy the peaceful setting and s'mores year-round. This timber framed home is custom built by us, the owners, and we have thought of everything to make your vacation truly special.

While the home sleeps 8 privately because of the multi-levels, it is not a large home so it also works for just a couple wanting a romantic escape. However, if you are traveling with friends or family, the house's layout allows privacy. Your comfort is more important to us than just taking a reservation. Bedrooms: a master on the main floor with a slate open shower, upstairs are two more bedrooms with private baths. The finished lower level is one large room with two twins & sofa, tv, table, & bath. Great as a guest suite for one couple or to separate the children from the adults. (*See details below for specific layout details).

So much to do or simply get away and relax. Waterfalls Abound: You can spend weeks getting to them all. Beautiful falls within just a few miles of the house. Our activities Book will keep you busy for days, weeks or months! Paved Road to paved drive so great for motorcylists too!

Decor is not the usual rental type but rather features leather and upholstered furnishings, comfy mattresses & pillows, wool rugs, local artwork (owner is a decorator). We are particular and it shows.

Our renters tell us we've thought of everything... from walking sticks to wood for the fireplace and blankets to snuggle on cooler evenings by the fire. The gourmet kitchen is well equipped to cook (saving money on eating out). There's even a crockpot & popcorn popper. Wireless Internet & DirecTV.

Come hike or take a scenic drive, fish, raft, kayak, hunt for antiques, shop, go gem mining, attend festivals. It's all here! Our location is close to all our mountain activities but away from noisy tourism. Experience all Western NC has to offer from our comfortable home.

Get away and pamper yourself at the same time. Nothing finer than to come back after a nice hike or day exploring our beautiful area, put on comfy clothes, build a fire, grab a beverage of choice, and relax on the incredible timber framed deck.

Note: MAXIMUM OCCUPANCY IS A TOTAL OF 8 (adults & children) no exceptions. Not suitable for children under the age of 5 due to loft and open staircase. We do not allow large family reunion groups, weddings, parties, etc.

Share the Expense of Vacation: Bring along another couple or two, or family and share expenses. Less than the cost of hotel rooms. Hotel rooms shared with your children can be stressful, and eating out every meal gets expensive, you'll save by being able to eat in and pack a picnic.

Layout Detail: Timber Framed Home with beautiful exposed beams. The main floor is one large room - living area, dining & open kitchen. There is a Master Bedroom with en suite bath off the kitchen area. a powder room is off the entry/foyer. The ceiling in the main living area is vaulted to the second floor and there is an open staircase that leads to the second floor bedrooms. You can look over the railings into the living area below. The two bedrooms upstairs are private (not lofts) each with an en suite bath. The basement/lower level is finished and works great for children as it becomes 'their' space with TV, bathroom, table & chairs, DVD, 2 twins and a sofa. The stairway leading to the lower level is enclosed and the entire lower level is carpeted. The rest of the house features wood floors.

About Pam Pringle, Owner

We built the Cottage in 2008. We love Franklin NC, Franklin's convenient location allows you to tour around and enjoy all Western NC has to offer.

Pam Pringle, Owner purchased this house in 2008

Why Pam Pringle, Owner chose Franklin

This area is quiet and peaceful with large lots so you don't have nearby noisy neighbors. Away from tourism, but close enough to experience it all.

What makes this house unique

Beautiful timber framed home with rustic elegant decor. We try to think of every detail to make you feel right at home upon arrival. Just bring your pj's! The covered porch with outdoor fireplace will be where you spend all your time, listening to the trickling stream, 2.5 acres. We've provided blankets for snuggling by the fire, skewers for 'smores, lots of seating.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had an amazing time here at the Cottage. We did so many fun things like going gem mining, Ziplining in Highlands, horseback riding at the Dillard House and just walking around the town of Highlands. Not to mention the beautiful waterfalls, my personal favorite was Dry Falls.

The house had all amenities needed and provided a nice and cozy place to spend the nights and mornings. We are so grateful for the little treat basket you gave us.

Thanksgiving in the Mountains

  • 5 of 5

Thanksgiving 2008 .... The chill was in the air, but when family gets together and snuggle around either the indoor fireplace or the outdoor fireplace, the warmth generated by both the fire and the reminscing of family times past brings a coziness and comfort that warms not only the body, but the soul ..

The incredible attention to comfort details were unsurpassed .. Impeccably clean, with all of our needs given the utmost attention .. State of the art kitchen and bathrooms ... All we needed to bring was our clothes and some food..The scenery breathtaking .. our wish was the owners command ... they bent over backwards to accomodate our family of 10 ( ages 11 months to 60 yrs) during this special time ... Rooms large enough and interesting decor that gave us not only space for the family to congegrate, but also gave us individual space for "quiet time"

A stone's throw from entertainment and restaurants... yet privacy at the utmost.. To hike to the top of the mountain gave us a glimpse of Heaven .. Watching the fog roll up from the valley was breathtaking .. There was something for all ages to experience that created memories that will be close to us for a long, long, time to come.. This place is excellent for a family get together, or a romantic get-a-way for couples of all ages..

The only minor inconvenience was having to take our trash to the local landfill ( but it was on the way to the local Bi-Low grocery store) .. The owners treated us in such a way that we felt they were caring for our comfort as if we were their best friends ..

If you can't tell that we enjoyed ourselves so much that we plan on returning at a later date, you haven't been paying attention to this review !!!

Owner's Response: We are interested in our guests and try to go above and beyond to make sure their visit is memorable, comfortable, and relaxing. We have the best housekeepers and do our utmost to keep everything in working order. And, yes, as Paul states, since this is a mountain community, we cannot have trash cans outside and do ask our guests if they have more than a bag or two to run their garbage down to the nearby trash/recycling facility. This is normally necessary for larger groups who stay more than a few days.

Perfect Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

This house is the best. We were welcomed by Tony who not only showed us the house and basic operational stuff but also provided suggestions about things to do and the town of Franklin. Pam told us the beds would be made with fresh linens and towels provided and they were, the comforters and quilts were like a show home. We were all tired and couldn't wait to rest a bit and then get unpacked. Each bedroom has its own bath and each room is beautifully decorated, the beds are very comfortable. The main living area has this incredible floor to ceiling stone wood burning fireplace with a huge waterfall photograph. The kitchen has everything one would need from salad spinner to crockpot, every utensil, dish and glassware has been thought of. The grocery is nearby and we cooked in a lot which saved our family money and allowed us to enjoy the incredible porch with picnic table and rocking chairs. There's a gas grill and even grill baskets. We did use the outdoor fireplace (even though it was summer), a small fire for s'mores and Pam even had tongs for the marshmallows. The kids were downstairs where there were 2 twin beds, a sofa, bathroom, their own TV and a table where they played games. They LOVED it and so did we - a week for the adults not to listen to their cartoons, movies and games. Our group consisted of grandparents, parents and grandchildren, we so enjoyed this trip and talk about it constantly, such great memories for all of us and especially our children who got to spend time with their grandparents outdoors. We will be back. Things we did - gem mining. We had so many rocks the kids wanted to bring home. It was very educational too, be sure to go to the gem museum downtown. We hiked to waterfalls, Dry Falls and Bust your Butt Falls. We enjoyed Cherokee, which was great for the kids too. We drove to the Blue Ridge Parkway and took a picnic. There's chairs, cooler and basket at the house. We went to the Smoky Mountain National Park and saw the elk. And, there's an indoor place for the kids in Franklin which was terrific one day when it rained called the Fun Factory. The guys went fishing one day with a guide and the girls shopped antiques. I can't say enough about this house. It felt like home.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your wonderful review. The Cottage is so perfect for separating the kids from the adults. And having grandma, grandpa, parents and children come seems to be quite popular at the Cottage. Many remember coming to Franklin as children with their parents and now they bring their own children to enjoy and create special memories to pass on. The Cottage is a special place and we work hard to pay attention to the details. That's what makes our guests want to return time and time again to their home, away from home.

Beautiful home and Beautiful scenery

  • 5 of 5

This property was absolutely beautiful!! My husband's family drove down from Virginia. There were 6 adults and more than enough rooms. This house was very high end with many upgrades. The kitchen was well stocked and the linens were luxurious. We made a day trip to the Builtmore House. It was about an hour and a half drive. I highly recommend staying at this property.

We give it a 10!!!

The Cottage's description is perfect and it is even better in person. We met up with our family from FL, GA, and IN and mostly hung out at the house catching up and reminiscing. The property is so quiet and the little stream gives such a relaxing, zen type quality. With the 4 bedrooms, we all didn't feel like we were on top of each other and had privacy. We returned most days and cooked out and the kitchen had every type of dish, utensil, etc. you can imagine. We even made a pie and cake.

The house was just so comfortable we hated to leave. We did go gem mining which was so much fun, and hiked Rufus Morgan Trail, and we went downtown and the girls loved the yarn shop and coffee house, the guys found a great spot for a beer while we shopped. We also drove over to the Nantahala Outdoor Center and loved watching the kayaks from the restaurant there. We will be back!! Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful home.

Franklin is located between two popular scenic gorges, the Cullasaja and the Nantahala. The Cottage is located within 10 min. of the famous Cullasaja River Gorge scenic drive, and is rated one of the most spectacular in North America, passing 3 major waterfalls. Take a walk behind the roaring 75 foot wall of water of Dry Falls, and drive your car under Bridal Veil Falls. The mountainscape is lined with many hiking trails, including the famous Appalachian and Bartram Trails, both accessed 25 minutes drive from The Cottage.

Located in the southwestern corner of North Carolina, Franklin serves as the southern gateway to the Blue Ridge Mountains and Great Smokies. It's convenient location to major cities make Franklin a favorite vacation spot. Atlanta, Georgia is just two hours to the south while Asheville, is one hour to the east. Other cities nearby include Highlands, Cashiers, Dillsboro, & Sylva, all within about 30 minutes.

Other Activities: Western North Carolina has so much to offer. Excellent Hiking (easy hikes and Appalachian Trail hiking). Fishing, either fly fishing or lake/stream fishing is great in our area. Antiquing is a favorite shopping activity in our area and we have many local owned shops. We're located along the Waterfall Byway. You can drive or hike to gorgeous waterfall vistas. We're known for our white water rafting, or take a slow tube float down the river. Our area is also famous and featured on the Travel Channel for Gem Mining. The Blue Ridge Parkway is a wonderful drive and great way to cool off in the summer months. A picnic on the Parkway is the best! Access to The Great Smoky Mountain National Park is in nearby Bryson City. Come see the elk, or take a train ride. Skiing and snow tubing in winter months is about 40 min. from house. So much to do!
