The DriftAway:
As a native of Grand Traverse, I have such fond memories of summers full of waterskiing and boating and winters loaded with snowmobilling and skiing. Although my husband and I moved to the Nation's Capitol, we always knew we wanted a connection back home in Traverse City. The DriftAway is my way of sharing 'home' with others! And, we went out of our way to make the cottage comfortable, fun, and relaxing. Come to the DriftAway and experience the beauty of Northern Michigan.
Spider Lake:
Spider Lake is a 450-acre “all-sports” lake located in Lower Michigan about twenty minutes southeast of Traverse City. The lake has fishing for bass, bluegill, perch, pike and crappie, and motorboats are allowed with a speed limit enforced from 7:30 P.M. to 11:00 A.M. Other area activities include hiking, horseback riding, canoeing, swimming, water and jet skiing, golf, parasailing, windsurfing, cross country skiing and snowmobiling. Just a short drive takes you to the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, which is a stunning expanse of beach, water and sand dunes. The North Manitou and South Manitou Islands are located a few miles offshore, and are accessible by ferry from the city of Leland. Both islands are popular backpacking spots. To the north of Spider Lake is the Old Mission Peninsula, with its’ beautiful cherry orchard studded hills and internationally known wine-growing region (Unger, 2006).
Ski:
