We spent a Woman's Week Away in this senastional home! We really enjoyed our stay and as Jimmy Buffett fans, playfully referred to this comfortable home as our "MargaritaVilla". The upstairs bedrooms were tastefully decorated with beach colors which along with the cool sea breezes helped us get into the summer spirit.
We were pleasantly surprised by how spacious and well equipped this home is including a fully equipped kitchen with an eat-in breakfast nook, a formal dining room complete with china, a large living room, 1st floor laundry room, fireplace, patio furniture, charcoal grills, beach chairs and umbrella, linens, cable tv, dvd player, boombox, books, jigsaw puzzles, games, koozies, and more. It truly has all the comforts of home and then some..........
Setback on 3 scenic acres, there is enough privacy to unwind and really relax here. As working professionals used to the hustle and bustle of the city, we cherished the quiet nights watching the stars up above while listening to the surf in the distance. We spent our mornings sipping coffee on the porch or biking along the coast. Our afternoons were spent sunbathing on the beautiful beach just down the road.
When we didn't cook at home, we visited a few of the area restaurants. Along Ocean Boulevard Petey's Seafood, Ray's, and the Carriage House Restaurants were all quite good. We especially loved spending Sunday afternoon listening to reggae music at Saunder's Restaurant on Rye Harbor. We stayed for dinner and watched the magnificent sunset over the marsh.
One day, we took an exciting boat trip from Rye Harbor to the Isles of Shoals where we had a picnic lunch. Another day, we took pictures of the flowers at Fuller's Gardens. Shopping together at the nearby Kittery Outlets followed by dinner on the waterfront in downtown Portsmouth topped off an incredible week! We will be back!
My oldest son got married in Rye, NH this past July and our family chose to stay in this beautful home by Wallis Sands beach rather than an overpriced, cramped hotel room. The Sunday to Sunday rental period was wonderful as his wedding was on a Saturday and every other home rental I looked at only allowed for a Saturday rental which would have had us moving in or out on his wedding day.
We also brought our old family dog with us from Michigan which made my son very happy. Centrally located to everything, it was easy to get to all the different pre-wedding events and we loved sightseeing in the area. This home was extremely clean, very well equipped, had wireless Internet and plenty of room (both inside and out) for everyone to relax and enjoy themselves. In fact, with all the busy wedding festivities going on throughout the week, this home was our own quiet haven where we could escape.
The weather was incredible during our stay and we especially liked our sunset walks on the beach with our dog. The lakes in Michigan are pretty, but the ocean with it's sandy beach, tidal pools, and big rocks is just amazing. We look forward to returning again next year to help them celebrate their anniversary! Thank you for helping to make our week perfect.
This spacious home was our gathering place for a week-long reunion of friends who have spread across the country. What a perfect place for us! Rather than a rental cottage, this is truly a home with all of the comforts. When we arrived, we could immediately start our vacation. The home is very well-maintained and had everything we needed. The owners are attentive to details and were clearly invested in making their home surpass our expectations. They have long-standing ties to the area and were able to provide us with many ideas about local attractions.
The home sits on a beautiful property that provides a tranquil backdrop for relaxation. This offered a wonderful balance of quiet with accessibility. At the house, we felt far away from the hustle and bustle. But as soon as we wanted to participate in activity, we had so many choices close by. Even within the home, we felt that we could spread out or gather together as we wished without concern about space. We had several couples as part of our group, and one of our friends has a baby and noise was never an issue (for the baby or the adults). While we were able to comfortably cook in the fully stocked kitchen, we also enjoyed the area's many diverse restaurants.
We opted to fit in plenty of sightseeing and did not have enough time to fit everything in. There are great choices for both good and bad weather days. We flew into Manchester, NH, and toured the Anheuser-Busch brewery nearby. What a treat. The guided tour was free, and they offered generous samples at the end. We were able to see the Clydesdale horses up close in the barn and spend as much time with them as we wished.
Rye served as a wonderful hub for our activities. The beach was close by and was easily accessible. We spent an afternoon taking in the live reggae outside at Saunders Restaurant, which is on the water and offers beautiful scenery. We enjoyed a boat trip to the Isles of Shoals where we picnicked and took in a bit of history. We spent one day seeing numerous sites as we wound our way up the coast into Maine, which is close to Rye. Lobster was unbelievably inexpensive and fresh, and we were able to buy lobsters at the harbor and enjoy them just a short time later. Scenic Portsmouth has a quaint downtown with shops and restaurants.
This was such a fantastic place to stay, and we would highly recommend this home to others. The comfort and amenities are top-notch. We are hoping to make this home a regular vacation destination.
I was fortunate to be able to rent this property with several friends and spent a wonderful week in Augus 2009 just blocks from the ocean and easy driving to beautiful scenery in New Hampshire and Maine.
The house was large enough with plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms(!) for privacy, and the kitchen and dining rooms were large enough places for all of us to gather for meals and planning our daily outings. The house even came furnished with linens for the bedrooms and bathrooms, and enough kitchen suppplies that we could cook wonderfull breakfasts and dinners.
The house wound up being in a great location that we visited the ocean at a moments notice. There were days spent on the beach just hanging out enjoying the weather (and a wonderful lobster dinner bought fresh from the local harbor) and one day were we took a harbor cruise to The Isles of Shoals. We also spent a day driving around southern Maine were we saw the Nubble Lighthouse.
If this is your first time visiting New Hampshire I would definately recommend this as a place to stay for a family and friend vacations. It offers a clean, private home away from home setting for relaxing or if you prefer, plenty to do and see in the surrounding region.
We live in CA, but have relatives in NH and look forward to our trip East each year. We have stayed in this lovely home the past two summers and are looking forward to returning again this year!
This home is one of the best kept secrets in town. We discovered it accidentally when the home that we used to stay in was doublebooked and we were scrambling for a summer rental at the last minute. Since this home had just became a summer rental, we were fortunate to find it available during the time we needed.
We were not disappointed when we arrived. This home is larger, newer, and more comfortable than your typical summer beach rental. It is nicely decorated and has new furniture, comfortable mattresses, and fresh paint throughout. There was even a new ceramic tile floor in the kitchen when we arrived last summer.
On the days when it rained, we really appreciated the extra room for everyone to spread out and relax; as well as the puzzles, board games, books, boombox, DVD Player & HBO that are on hand.
New linens were provided which was especially nice coming from CA. The last thing we want to do when on vacation is have to bring along our own linens or shop for them while there.
We love being able to bring our Chocolate Lab, Bailey, who looks forward to his daily runs on Wallis Sands beach and romping in the backyard. The big yard is ideal for cookouts and our annual family volleyball match.
The landlords are friendly and treat us like family. Last summer, when my brother had a broken leg, they went out of their way to accomodate us by converting the 1st floor study into a 4th bedroom for him to use so that he would not have to walk upstairs for bed. The full bathroom on the 1st floor outisde the study worked out well for him too.
We absolutely love this home and the little towns of Rye and Portsmouth, NH. There is so much to see and do in the immediate area. We consider this our home away from home and can't wait to return!
I've rented many vacation houses but what sets this one apart is that it feels like home. It is comfortable and has lots of room to spread out inside and out. Our teenage boys loved tossing balls around on the huge lawns and rollerblading up and down the long driveway (after putting on bug spray to keep the mosquitos away...a must!). Our daughter loved the tree swing and watching bunnies in the yard.
My favorite time of day was early morning when the kids were still asleep and I could enjoy my morning coffee and my book in a comfy living room chair -- and, if the sun was out, the warmth of it through the big window.
On beach days, we would have my husband drop us off with our beach gear and, if there was no street parking available, he'd go back and park in the driveway at the house. None of us minded the walk to or from the beach, but with chairs and a cooler of lunch and snacks, it was easier shuttle everything in the car. We chose not to go to Wallis Sands State Park just down the road because the beach closest to the house is nice, has lifeguards and is not as crowded. (While there isn't a bath house or snack bar at the closer beach, there are portable toilets and regular visits by the ice cream truck.) Great waves for boogie boarding!
There's lots to do in Rye and the surrounding area. I recommend this great house for your NH beach getaway!
This home is centrally located in Rye Beach, NH, nestled between the towns of Portsmouth & Hampton. Portsmouth, NH & Kittery, ME are a 5 mile drive north of Rye while Hampton is 7 miles south. In the summer, there is a trolley that goes between Rye & Portsmouth. The scenic Maine towns of York, Ogunquit & Kennebunkport are each a 20-45 minute drive north. Be sure to see the Nubble Lighthouse while in York & walk the breathtaking Marginal Way in Ogunquit. Kids will love taking a lobster boat ride on the 'Finestkind' in Ogunquit! Area antiquing along scenic RT 4 is fun too. Portland, ME & Boston, MA are each an hour away from Rye. The closest airport with the best fares & least hassles is Manchester Airport w/a 45 minute drive. If flying in to Manchester, take a tour of the Anhesuer Busch Brewery in Merrimack & be sure to enjoy some samples & see the Clydesdales. For those flying in to Boston's Logan Airport, there is a shuttle bus that can take you to/from Portsmouth for about $25.
