We have nothing but great things to say about this fine rental home on the Chesapeake Bay. Our group included 8 adults, 2 infants and a pug at various times during our stay. We were immediately struck by the beautiful house, its spacious, well-kept grounds and location on the water. The home is very well appointed, beautifully and tastefully decorated in every room and immaculate inside and out. It’s clear the owners spent considerable time selecting everything for guests' comfort and convenience. All of the furniture and beds were very comfortable, and accommodations were sufficient for the size of our group. We ended up spending most of our indoor time in the beautiful sun room, with its 150 degree awesome bay view.
It was apparent that the house had been thoroughly cleaned inside and out when we arrived. Even the gas grill was well cleaned, included a nice utensil set, full propane bottle and was ready to go. We used it almost every night. For some reason most rental homes we’ve visited in the past have had grills that were almost unusable. So this was a very nice surprise for me (the grill master). Nice touch!
We found the entire home to be very nicely stocked with everything we needed during our stay. We brought a number of items that we needn’t have because they were provided, such as shampoo and cream rinse, hand soap, paper towels, garbage bags, etc. The kitchen had a full compliment of pots, pans, and gadgets. We used the provided crab pots, kayaks, bikes, lounge chairs, and hammock. Everything was functional and in good shape, though the bikes could do with a bit of maintenance.
We spent many hours on the pier crabbing and fishing. Both were excellent! We caught as many crabs as we cared to eat. As for the fishing, we caught dozens of croakers and spot, stripers and drum and several stingrays (which were exciting to catch). The lighted pier was really nice for night fishing, too. A water faucet on the pier for cleaning hands would be a nice addition.
In summary, every one of us found the home to be exceptional! We had an enjoyable, relaxing stay, though it was far too brief. Highly recommend this rental home and we hope to be able to return next year.
Beautiful and peaceful! We had three generations and lots of friends on a rotational two week visit. This was the perfect rental for us as we currently live over seas and our vacations always end up with my husband and I running the roads to see everyone in a very short amount of time. This year, we decided to rent a place on the water and make everyone come to us. What a HIT! We had a wonderful time making family dinners, enjoying Smores from the fire pit, and walks to the roadside a 1/2 mile away...round trip you have a mile in easy. The linens were high quality and the kitchen had everything we needed. The garage was well equipped with toys, gas grill, 2 kayaks, and crab pods, although we were there too early in the year to partake.
Just up the road, my husband stumbled across a gentleman selling fresh picked strawberries, which quickly became pies, three to be exact. My mother-in-law kept eating them saying I needed to try again to get it right. LOL We also found fresh scallops and shrimp which quickly became part of surf-n-turfs for all. Thank you for sharing your home. I highly recommend this to others looking for great views and peaceful retreats.
Our family planned a Thanksgiving vacation at the Seagull Retreat. The trip was a gift and blessing to have our whole family together for the first time in 15 years for a holiday.
The trip from Allentown, PA to VA started out with breaking my hand and 7 plus hours in Thanksgiving traffic. The stress level was quite high as we approached the seashell driveway, but every bump and crunch seemed to reduce the tension. We arrived at night and in the dark with not much to see except for a fake heron by the water lit by our headlights, but as we turned on the house lights a sound of "ah" would be heard and I knew that my mission of finding the "perfect" spot to vacation for our family of nine was a success.
After unpacking, the focus turned to creating a feast. We were amazed to find that the house was fully supplied with everything that anyone would need in the kitchen even for a big Thanksgiving dinner. During our stay, our family was always busy at the house through collecting nuts, playing catch, watching football, chasing little ones, walking the beautiful property and checking out the dock. With so much to do and the homey feel, it was hard to get everyone out of the house. When we could get everyone out of the home, we explored area attractions like the town of Cape Charles which is a quaint bay town filled with tiny artsy shops (perfect for gifts), coffee shops, a yummy Irish pub and a beautiful beach. The kids loved running the clean beach and it was hard to keep the kids out of the water. We also enjoyed a wine tasting at a local winery, the local grub and an Oyster guy who educated us on the business. After a few days at the house and a disc full of pictures, I knew that the Seagull Retreat will always have a special place in our hearts.
We had a wonderful time at Seagull Retreat. Having stayed in various rentals over the years, we can say that this is exactly as described and much more. It was peaceful and secluded. The kids loved the dock and fishing and we enjoyed the crabbing. The views over the water were spectacular. Beautiful sunsets and sunrises. We enjoyed sitting outside and looking at the view as well as using the fire pit in the evenings. The town of Cape Charles was nice for taking the kids to the beach. Very family friendly and NOT crowded. We loved the little antique shops in the various nearby towns and the drive to Chincoteague for some sightseeing. The owners of the property were great to work with and we are looking forward to booking a stay again next summer. Would highly recommend to our family and friends!
Seagull Retreat is the cleanest and most well stocked rental I have ever stayed at. My Grandson especially liked the hammock and using the kayaks which were very easy to paddle. As an 8 year old it was his first experience paddling and he had no problem handling it. Crabbing from the pier is excellent and if you like to fish, take along a minnow trap and put it in the shallow water near the grass with just about any kind of bait and you'll have all the minnows you need in very short order. Thanks for a wonderful vacation. George and Anna Young.
The photos are accurate--the house is lovely and immaculate! The setting is down a private gravel "lane" off a country road-but groceries and main road close by. House equipped with everything we needed for 8 ranging from age 26 to 81. Nice appliances, blender for margaritas, griddle for pancakes, gas grill for fresh shrimp on the Bar-B. Sun room was favorite hang out for grandparents with full view of the water. Kayaked and rode bikes, made puzzles, played cards, caught crabs, enjoyed the tides ebb and flow, saw the "otter" (need to be quiet at dusk), ate s'mores around the fire pit--skeeters a pain--but found the bug spray and citronella candles. Beds comfy, showers hot, satellite TV and close to little towns with fun shops to explore-Onancock, Cape Charles, Chincoteaque. Tasted wine, ate great sea food at Aqua (Cape Charles marina). A must see is Turner Sculpture Gallery on Rt. 13 in Onley-like a nature museum but you can touch everything! We wish it was closer to our home in OH--it was quite a trek and traffic was heavy in Aug. We hope to come back!
