The Owls Nest is a wonderful home. It's cozy, warm and inviting. Love the French doors leading to the screened porch, where we enjoyed relaxing every day. It was particularly nice on the days that it rained. It's an easy drive to the great shopping and restaurants that are in Saugatuck and Holland. Susan is great to work with. We definitely plan to visit again.

Our 4th Year at the Owl's Nest

Our 4th Year at the Owl's Nest

This was our 4th year at the Owl's Nest and we're looking forward to year #5! This home is beautifully furnished with everything any person would need to use. The home sits on a lovely wooded property where deer, squirrels and even fox can be seen. Across the street is West Side Park which has stairs down to the beach. Every morning we go beach combing in search of interesting items and every evening we sit on the beach to watch the fantastic orange sunsets over the Lake. Of course, our visit would not be complete without enjoying the desserts at Crane's. We find time to stroll in downtown Saugatuck and South Haven. This year, we went up to Beulah MI to feast on the world's best cherry pie at the Cherry Hut. We also spent a day exploring Bay City. It feels great at the end of the day to return "home" to the Owl's Nest.
Owner's Response: So glad you enjoyed your stay! Our wonderful return guests are the highlight of every rental season and we know we can rely on all of you to hold us to a high standard. We look forward to welcoming you back in 2013!

Owl's Nest - What an Excellent Time!

Owl's Nest - What an Excellent Time!

We couldn't have been happier with every aspect of our stay. Susan and Michael were extremely helpful. The cottage is so lovely, even more so than the photos if that's possible - with everything you need. The location is perfect - tucked in peaceful woods, only a short walk to the sandy beach and so convenient to all the local sites and attractions. It was one of our best family vacations, but too short - we'll be making reservations for next year. Thanks so much for everything.
Owner's Response: Thanks so much - we're delighted you enjoyed your stay. We knew Michael would be a great addition to our team and glad you agree. We look forward to welcoming you back and will contact you with details shortly.
Happy travels,
Susan

Terrific Visit!

The only fault with our visit was that it was too short! The setting couldn't be better. We spent a lot of time on the front porch in the morning. The screened porch was a wonderful spot to read, talk, watch the squirrels, birds and even the owls at night. Our teenager and twenty-somethings were able to maintain their social media and work computing from the porch. :-)
The Owls Nest is a well cared for property in a setting that offers guests an easy ten minute walk to the beach and a peaceful setting in the woods. You can access the beach by way of West Side County Park across the street. The aprk offers a playground for children.
The Owls' Nest is as good or better than the pictures show. The kitchen is well appointed and was easy to work in.
Saugatuck and Holland are easy drives away. My husband and sons made it a habit to visit Crane's almost every day to pick up a pie!
We're already talking about the next visit.
Owner's Response: So glad you enjoyed your first visit - we look forward to welcoming you back! We're proud to say that we have some families that now make the Owls' Nest their annual summer retreat.

Loved our stay at the Owl's Nest...

Loved our stay at the Owl's Nest...

We can't stress enough that every little detail at the Owl's Nest was carefully and well thought out by the owners, because of which our stay there was perfect. Amenities are better than described and anything else you need is close by, we made a run to the Walmart in nearby South Haven to stock up on water and trash bags.

The wooded lot around the house is so secluded and quiet, we had a hard time dragging ourselves out of the comfortable beds in the mornings. Kids loved the frog pond. The frog in there dives away when we first approach, but if we sat around quietly for while, he would come back out, to bask on the rocks. Enjoyed breakfast in the screened in porch, watching the resident black squirrel gorging himself with his head stuck into the bird feeder. Saw a badger amble by, that was totally unexpected.

We were there early in the season, the temps were in the 70's, so the swimming in the lake was still a bit bracing, but it was great relaxing at the beach. We actually had the whole beach to ourselves most of the time, with nobody else in sight.

We did the mandatory Crane's Pie, and got a recommendation there to go climb Mt. Baldhead in Saugatuck, which we did and thoroughly enjoyed.

Already looking forward to coming back here again!
Owner's Response: So glad you enjoyed your stay - we look forward to welcoming you back!

Location just off I-196 & M-89 means the Owls' Nest is only a two-hour drive from Chicago.

More to do than a week allows! Needless to say, the beach and Lake Michigan are the big draws but there's so much more! Orchards, boutique shops, fine dining, hiking, canoeing, fishing, live performances...and then there's the peace and quiet of the woods. Check our reviews and you'll find that everyone gravitates to the screened porch. It's a great place for coffee in the morning, a book (read 'nap') in the afternoon or a glass of wine at dusk. You'll find really great restaurants that focus on fresh, local produce supplied by many of the area's organic farmers/producers. Vineyards and fruit plantations provide the opportunity to pick your own or purchase a peck! Not fancy or showy, but homey & cozy. The Owls' Nest is truly our home away from home and we hope you're as comfortable there as we are - enjoy!

Only five miles from Saugatuck/Douglas, the 'Arts Coast of the Midwest' and designated a 2009 Distinctive Destination in the United States by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Dozens of art galleries and studios; one of the top ten annual film festivals in the US; live theater and music options abound; wide variety of bars, restaurants and clubs; and home to Oval Beach. Recently rated 'Best Beach in the Midwest' by the Chicago Tribune; 'one of the 25 best shorelines in the world' by Conde Nast's Traveler; and 'one of the top five beaches in the US' by MTV.

Golf: You'll find a number of golf courses throughout the area. Brochures are available in our guidebook at the cottage or online at saugatuck.com .
