We loved Pacific Grove

ChrisnRach London, UK
Review Submitted: March 28, 2008 Date of Stay: March 2008
We all had a fantastic time at this house, which is a very comfortable and charming family home. Everything was as described on the website and all very clean and well-maintained.

Upstairs there is a large den which the kids loved - this worked very well for us when we wanted to enjoy peace and quiet around the fire downstairs. The front porch was another favourite area - we spend many hours there in the morning with our coffee watching the world go by.

Location is a very big advantage to staying here - the beach, and lovely shops and restaurants of Pacific Grove are a 5 minute walk away. The walk into Monterey to visit the aquarium (do not miss) is around 1/2 hour (slow pace) and follows the coast. The street the house is on is very quiet. We saw deer running down the road a number of times in the morning.

The owner of this property is a pleasure to deal with - prompt replies to emails and very helpful. We arrived to a fresh bunch of flowers, bottle of wine and welcoming card - thanks very much, Mary, we'd love to come back some day. My mother-in-law described staying at your home as life-enhancing and I agree.

Comfortable Home in Pacific Grove

KT Travels San Diego
Review Submitted: November 6, 2009 Date of Stay: October 2009
My family and friends enjoyed a 7-day stay at this home during the last week of October. We found the home very comfortable and settled in quickly. There was plenty of room for all of us. We used every bed, the sofa sleeper and a futon for 11 of us. I was concerned that there were just the two bathrooms but it was never a problem. The backyard is beautiful. We enjoyed the hot tub and stayed away from fire pit since we had small children. We appreciated the games, toys and books that were available for us to use. The kitchen is stocked with more than the basics. There are even two coffee makers which came in handy for those that enjoy decaf. The office worked out well. There was plenty of room for two of us to use our laptops at the same time, connection to the internet was easy. We walked to the aquarium three times and drove once (for an evening event, we didn’t want to walk back late at night with the kids.) If you plan on visiting the aquarium more than once, you should consider becoming a member. The cost of the membership is reasonable. You can spend a few hours at a time without feeling like you need to see it all in one day. It was just a short drive to the local Trader Joe’s, Safeway and CVS. There was easy access to Hwy 1 to visit Big Sur, Carmel and Pebble Beach. The owner is responsive and very helpful. We look forward to staying there again.

Wonderful Family House for a Surprise Birthday

SheilaM Wilmington, Delaware
Review Submitted: October 27, 2009 Date of Stay: March 2009
With my 70th birthday coming up the end of April, I had no inkling of what awaited me at the lovely Victorian house in Pacific Grove on March 28th. I thought I was visiting my daughter's friend house and there on the balcony was my beautiful family from both coasts with a large, colorful Happy Birthday banner. It took some minutes until it all registered.

The house was great for the ten of us, 3 boys and 7 adults. We had plenty of space. I loved the large fully equiped kitchen with it's big round table where we could gather , laugh and tell stories. The long dining room table served the same purpose for our evening meals. We had a delicious birthday cake from Buehler's bakery.

We relaxed in the attractively furnished living room and enjoyed the upstairs family room with its large TV and DVD player. In fact one night we were up until 3 A.M doing puzzles.
We played croquet in the lovely garden . The hot tub provided hours of fun but it was often too windy for the fire pit.

Pacific Grove, with its shops and restaurants, was in easy walking distance. We ate at the charming Red House restaurant, good food ,great teas. Also enjoyed Tarpy's Roadhouse in Monterey for brunch
The nearby beach, tidal pools at Pt. Pinos and the Monterey Bay Aquarium were on our excursion list. We especially enjoyed inspecting the tidal pools. Carmel and Big Sur were great nearby destinations. The views are breathtaking. Lunch at the Nepenthe Restaurant gave us a chance to have a delicious lunch and enjoy the scenery at the same time.
The house was a light and airy haven to return to after our outings. Our bedroom had skylights and overlooked the garden. With all the linens provided and a laundry our stay was easy and pleasant . The owner provided a welcome gift of wine and flowers and was very accomodating to our few requests.
I greatly appreciate my family's excellent and silent planning. I still can't believe they pulled off this wonderful surprise in a perfect house and a great location. Would I recommend it ? In a New York minute!

Pacific Grove Retreat

grape Salt Lake City, UT
Review Submitted: September 1, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
Five families gathered for my parents 50th wedding anniversary and we found the house spacious and charming. It is the perfect location for walking to the hiking trail along the ocean, visiting Asilomar Beach, and traveling by car to Carmel and even Big Sur.
The neighborhood is quiet and tranquil and perfect for night time strolls. The siblings especially liked gathering in the hot-tub at night, while children sprawled in the upstairs den to watch a movie.
Mary (the owner) is wonderful to correspond with - she promptly answers your questions and handled everything professionally. She also responded to our request for better cooking knives by buying them for the house! (There were several cooks in our group)
What I really appreciate is the reasonable price for the rental and the fact that the house is not a "luxury" house where you are afraid to touch anything - instead, it's clean, spacious and lovely so one feels at home.
We will treasure the memories we made at this house.

In The Heart of Pacific Grove

Miniman Salt Lake City, Utah
Review Submitted: July 19, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
We so enjoyed our stay at this wonderful home for our first trip to Pacific Grove. It provided a perfect environment for our family that included my 91 year old parents as well as children. The home is as lovely as was described on line and Pacific Grove itself is a breath of fresh air.
We were in Pacific Grove for our son's wedding so many of the pre-wedding activities took place at the house. It provided a wonderful place to wrap silverware in napkins and to label gift bottles of olive oil. The kitchen is roomy and was perfect for meals for the crew or Play Dough with the kids.
The fenced yard was beautifully maintained even while we were there and was a great place for the kids to play or even for a wedding rehearsal. Our favorite part was the fire pit where so many of us caught up with each others lives after months apart.
Most of us were able to go to the very near Aquarium but didn't go to restaurants. We loved Pavel's Bakery, however, and enjoyed browsing at Biba, a boutique downtown.
In all, the home fit us very well and provided us with the perfect centrally located home base for a wonderful week.
