Photos and Description of the Fivizzano vacation house rental 1 double bedroom,k-size bed, + ensuite bathroom, 1 twin, 1 bathroom, sleeps 5-7

LA CANONICA, a listed building dating from 1501, has been recently restored to a high standard in accordance with the requirements of the Dept. of Fine Arts. Situated in a quiet medieval hamlet it is within easy reach of the beautiful Gulf of Poets, the stunning coastline of the Cinque Terre, the ski resort of Cerreto. The walled city of Lucca which Prince Charles described as the most beautiful in the world is just a train journey away. LA CANONICA is the perfect place to relax. There is a peaceful garden and patio, incl pizza oven, with hillside views. But if you want a bit more activity, there are lovely hikes nearby, two swimming pools a couple of kms. away, the thermal baths at Equi Terme, painting holidays, riding, musical evenings in summer, a weekly market in nearby Fivizzano, not to mention the many 'sagras' or food festivals held locally. Good food, good wine, a quiet patio and garden in which to relax. La Canonica is the ideal location. The perfect escape.

Fivizzano, 5 kms away, is a mediaeval walled town with its famous square surrounded by cafes and bars. Here there are supermarkets, shops, chemists and all services. Tues. is market day. Aulla, 13 kms. away is larger with a good choice of supermarkets. The area of the Lunigiana is dotted with villages, castles and forts. Just 2 kms from La Canonica is the Soliera/Rometta train line which chugs its way through beautiful mountain scenery down to the old city of Lucca. Alternatively head to the coast and hike some of the Cinque Terre coastline which is breathtakingly beautiful, visit the beach at Lerici (Blue Flag award indicating clean water, pristine sands and a well organised beach) or wander around La Spezia, and on to the UNESCO heritage town of Porto Venere just a few kms. beyond. The Gulf of Poets should not be missed. Pisa is just over an hour away and Florence a bit further - 2+ hours. There are some very good restaurants and 'agriturismos' locally serving organic food.

Notes: Whilst there are three bedrooms in the house, the sofa on the mezzanine floor (sleeping gallery) converts to two single beds. However it is suitable only for one adult or 2 children as the stairs are quite steep. Though the seating in the living room is for four, the sofa on the mezzanine floor seats at least two and is a very pleasant area to while away the hours. The main bathroom has a bath with shower, w.c. sink and bidet. Children are welcome as there is a patio and garden, including an original wood-burning pizza oven. The house is suitable for elderly or infirm as it is all one storey (except for the mezzanine floor). Access to utility room is by three steep steps. There is gas central heating as well as a wood burning stove. La Canonica because of its thick walls and double glazing, stays warm in winter and cool in summer. Cot and high chair available on request

A Taste of Paradise

Eoin&Claire Ireland
Review Submitted: June 24, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
We found La Canonica to be a little piece of paradise and a delightful place to base ourselves for our Italian holiday. It is situated in a beautiful rustic location, with great privacy and quiet, peaceful surroundings, but with everything you need a short drive away in nearby towns and villages. The area also has good rail and road connections if you want to travel further afield. The house is exquisitely restored and decorated, deceptively spacious, very well-equipped and maintained to a high standard. The owner has gone to considerable effort to make it a really comfortable home from home and her many thoughtful, helpful and personal touches in both the house and garden, added a touch of magic to our holiday. We found her to be extremely helpful and welcoming both before and during our stay. All in all, the beauty and character of the house, it stunning location, and the warmth and thoughtfulness of the owner, ensured that our holiday was relaxed, easy, and thoroughly enjoyable. We cannot recommend La Canonica highly enough for a truly special holiday.

Top location in the mountains

Nusje Pijnacker, Holland
Review Submitted: May 24, 2009 Date of Stay: April 2009
We had a very nice stay in La Canonica! The house is a little bit isolated from the rest of the world but with a car it is no problem to visit all we wanted. Everyday we made a trip: to the marble quarries, Cinque Terre, Pisa, Lucca and we had some great walks in the mountains.
Splendid for people who like authenticity and especially the original Italian life!

The house is clean and furnished complete. In the kitchen we found everything we wanted: that is rather unusual in a
holidayhouse, but makes the stay much more comfortable. Further are there many little things that makes the house comfortable and pleasant: the soap in the bathroom, the clean washing-up-brush in the kitchen, a hair-dryer in the bathroom, wood for the stove etc. You feel welcome at ounce.

Sleeping was pleasant, the king size bed was a big surprise for us. In Italy and Spain we always have to sleep in little beds, but now we could sleep in a large bed, also fitted for tall Dutchmen!

In one word: our holiday was great, not at least through your perfect cottage!

A Mountain Retreat

Review Submitted: September 10, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
Thank you so much for letting us stay in your
beautiful house. We had a truly wonderful holiday.
How good for the soul to wake up to the sound of
wildlife from the forest, and to see the sun rising
over the mountains. Lerici was beautiful, as were so
many other places, and it was great to see the famous
mountains of marble. Thanks again.

Our week in Tuscany - 19th - 26th July 2008

Attilla Leeds, West Yorkshire, England
Review Submitted: July 30, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
Decided on a late booking to Tuscany, an area my wife and I had always wanted to visit but had never got around to it. Dropped on this property when doing a search and boy were we lucky. The property is set in a very quiet area but within very easy reach of all your daily shopping needs. The joy of its location is the peace and quiet. My wife and I have never known anything like it for tranquility. It was the most relaxing holiday that we have ever experienced. As for the property itself it is a gorgeous place to stay. The standard of the fixtures and fitting was top drawer and there was nothing that we were not provided with. The property was very clean and well maintained and I can think of nothing to fault it. Visited two local resteraunts on our visit both of which were excellent in both the quality of the food and the service we were given. despite our lack of the language we were made to feel very welcome in both resteraunts and the waiter / owners were most helpful in deciphering the food on offer to ensure that we got exactly what we wanted. A thoroughly enjoyable experience had at both. Round and about there is more that enough to do and see. On the days where we didn't just laze around at the property we enjoyed driving round the countryside and visiting the host of castles, villages and larger towns around and about. I would like to tak the opportunity to thank Julie for her hospitality and the "loan" of the propery for the week ( only wish it could have been for longer ).
As for recommending it to family and friends - yes definately. Anyone lucky enough to stay in this property will, I am sure, have absolutely no regrets about the choice that they have made.
Again - many thanks for the use of your property and both myself and my wife feel lucky to have had the opportunity.
