no internet, cat hair

Upon first glance, this house looked ok. The owners provided water, muffins, and a nice note to welcome us.
As we settled in, however, we found there was no internet access available, as promised on this site. We called the owners, who told us that we should be able to find a wireless network, which we couldn't (all of the neighbors had secured their networks). Then they told us that Time Warner was expected to arrive the day after we left. Upon further inspection, we found that the TV was connected by Direct TV, not Time Warner, and there was no modem (wireless or otherwise) in the house at all. So we trudged on without internet.
As my brother-in-law was coming in, one of the neighbors warned him to make sure to lock his car and not leave any valuables in plain sight – yikes.
When we made our beds (the sheets were provided in a folded pile on top of the bed, not made in the bed), my sister found an oily stain on her sheets.
Finally, we sat on the living room couches to watch a movie, and immediately I started sneezing. I got up and realized that the couch (and now I) was covered in cat hair - which I'm allergic to. We also noticed that the garage had a large container of kitty litter, and that there's an picture of a cat in one of the upstairs bedrooms. When I asked the owners about this (since the ad says "no pets"), I was told that the last renters must have brought a cat with them.
When I asked for financial compensation for these sub-standard conditions, the owners assured me that the house was fully cleaned after every rental and that we were getting a deal because they were charging us less than it costs for them to hire a cleaning service. They finally knocked a few dollars off the bill, but not much.
Bottom line: I would not stay here again, nor would I receommend this property to anyone I know.
Owner's Response: There is hard wire broad band internet provided by ATT. As for the cat hair on the couch, it is true that there was cat hair as a result of a previous tenant. However, the owners do not have pets nor are pets allowed on the property. For future tenants, the problem no longer exists as the furniture has been changed and this is no longer an issue. We have have enjoyed many rentals of this property since April 2008 and there have been no more reviews of this nature. On the contrary, the owners have received numerous great reviews of this property. We will continue to offer our tenants the best possible vacation in this home for many years to come.
