Ski/Winter Activities:
For skiers and snowboarders, the resort has 49 runs on two mountains (12 at Summit). There is a terrain park with rails, jumps, boxes, etc. and a bigger and better halfpipe. Kids full day lessons available which include lunch and snacks (half day programs also available). Magic carpet for beginners. Ski, snowboarding even racing lessons are available. Ski, snowboard, snowshoe rentals availalable. Cedar River has a three lane extreme tubing park. Miles of groomed cross country trails. Saturday night sledding party, make s'mores by the bonfire , Saturday dog sled rides, weekend horse-drawn sleigh rides, outdoor, indoor heated pools. Arcade games/pool tables at Ivans. Free shuttle service between villages will pick-up and drop off at your door. Shanty/Schuss is best known for its family appeal to all ages. Some of the best snowmobile trails in lower Michigan are within easy access of the resort. There is a snowmobile club in Mancelona. Snowmobile rentals available locally
Resort Spring/Summer Activities:
Shanty Creek is a four season resort comprised of three unique villages, Summit, Schuss and Cedar River. There is something for all the family. Golf one of four championship golf courses, driving ranges, practice putting greens (Goofy Golf on Thursday at Summit green), tennis, disc 'frisbee', golf, off road and road bike trails (rentals available at Schuss), hiking with guides tours on Wednesday, paved walking paths thru woods, GPS scavenger hunts, bonfires with storytelling. Indoor/outdoor pools (towels provided in pool area), hot tubs, fitness center and spa, day camps for children with activities including swimming, crafts, hiking, fishing, field trips. Babysitting service available. Weekend outdoor family movies under the stars (family lawn games before movie). Great restaurants in all villages from elegent to casual. Small beach and picnic area on Lake Bellaire. Public boat launch close to beach. Two minutes from spectacular 4th July weekend fireworks.
Off-site summer activities:
Take a day trip to Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes or Mackinaw Island. Old Mission Peninsula has five wineries, with tours. Traverse City for shopping, mini golf, beaches, Cherry Blossom Festival in July, Great Lakes Children's Museum. Horseback riding, hiking and fly fishing at Ranch Rudolph se of Traverse. Casinos in Traverse and Petosky. Charlevoix has beaches (look for Petosky stones), shopping, restaurants (best whitefish dinner at The Villager across from the marina), Venetian Festival in July. Look for Earl Young 'storybook' homes off Lakeshore Drive. There are marinas on Lake Bellaire with pontoon, jet ski, kayak and canoes available for rent. The Grass River at the south side of Lake Bellaire is wonderful for pontoons, kayaks and canoes, and joins Clam Lake. Movie theaters in Bellaire, bowling, mini golf, shopping. Horseback riding close by. Jordan Valley Outfitters for canoe/raft excursions. Avalance bay indoor waterpark thirty minute drive.
Golf:
Golfing: Shanty Creek Resort is one of the best in the Midwest with golfing availability for every level of golfer. Shanty Creek boasts several signature courses, including 'The Legend', an Arnold Palmer course, The Weiskopf Course at Cedar River, 'Hawkseye' and 'The Chief'. Plus, Schuss Mountain Golf Course has twice been voted the best public course in Michigan. Several awards have been given to the resort from popular golfing magazines. Prices reasonable.
