A beautiful and ultra-relaxing vacation house -- great for family reunions

Date of Stay: July 2010
Our large extended family (18 cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents) has now twice vacationed for a week each time at Fishing Cove -- in 2005 and again in 2010. We had a wonderful experience both times, although 2010 was even better because the owner opened up an additional bedroom and bathroom, so it was even more spacious and comfortable.
For those looking for a lot of outside stimulation and activities, the Cambridge area may not be for you. But if you're looking for peace, quiet and relaxation as we were, it's ideal. We did go into Cambridge to watch the Fourth of July fireworks show, which was absolutely amazing and very long. And there seem to be a lot of options for chartering boats, going fishing, etc. plus there is a fair amount of historical interest in the area, much of it centered on Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad and other civil war history. But we preferred to stay around the house, which is quite comfortable, and plenty to do right there. Swimming pool in the backyard is quite large and well-maintained. The backyard abuts onto a creek called Fishing Creek, which in turn feeds into the Little Choptank River. The house comes with two rowboats at the dock. We also rented a kayak and a canoe from Blackwater Paddle and Pedal, a local place that rents boats and also does guided water tours, including of the nearby Blackwater Nature Preserve. For those who love birding, it's an amazing place. We saw Bald Eagles there, as well as ospreys and lots of other interesting birds. There are also plenty of birds right on Fishing Creek at the house, so you don't even need to drive anywhere to do birdwatching (we saw Great Blue Herons and ospreys every single day).
I should add that my parents are in their 80's, and one of the great things about this house is that it is very accessible and easy to navigate for older folks who have limited mobility (there's even a lift for wheelchairs at the front door, though we didn't need to use that). And the backyard and dock are very easy to get around, so they were able to walk out to the dock each morning and evening to watch the sunset or the birds, or just gaze at the scenery.
The owner is exceptionally responsive and helpful, and keeps the property inside and out in immaculate condition. We asked her in advance about wireless internet, which the house does have, but she took the initiative to get it upgraded to increase connection speed.
We will come back to Fishing Cove!
