My wife I and were invited to a family wedding and, as I had never been to Maine before, we decided on a week's stay. We knew there would be 2 of us with the possibility of 2 or 4 additional persons for part or all of the week. The property was exactly what we wanted as it was affordable and small enough for us and large enough to accommodate others. It is a bit off the beaten track and in a very quiet neighborhood. Other than an occasional firework on the lake there was little noise. As it turned out we had 4 adults join us for 2 nights and there was ample space, towels and bedding for all.
The property was more spacious than I expected and was very well-kept, and stocked with paper products, cleaning supplies, dish and laundry detergent and other goodies which considerable reduced our anticipated expenses. We took most of our breakfasts and evening meals in and most evenings we used the gas grill.
We took several day trips to proximate areas: Kennybunkport, Portland, Boothbay Harbor and, Rockland. Each trip is easily doable. I would recommend if going to Boothbay Harbor to take the boat trip to Cabbage Island for the lobster fest. The trip is $62 per person but well-worth it. We considered a day trip to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park but my cousin (the one getting married) advised against it. After we made the day trip to Rockland, I concur. In my opinion the time to travel to and fro leaves insufficient time to enjoy what Bar Harbor and Acadia Nation Park have to offer.
Although the property is off the beaten path, shopping and dining is close in nearby Windham. There is a Shaw's Market which has great prices and a good selection of wine, and numerous restaurants both chain and local. We decided to dine out one night and chose DiSantos restaurant (about 3 miles away). We chose it because of it's proximity, it has Italian food and the recommendation of my cousin. This isn't Olive Garden so if you are looking for that look elsewhere; and it is a bit pricey as it is A La Carte. Being A La Carte worked out well for us because we usually forego appetizers and not having a salad included was not a big deal. The meals do come with bread and a choice of potato, rice or pasta. I chose the Veal Calabrese which was excellent.
Would we choose this property again? In a heartbeat!
