We stayed in here in February of 2015. Right off we met the caretaker in the driveway as we were unloading. She was very nice and even helped us with some recommendations for things to do with our family while there besides skiing. The cabin was a fair representation of what we expected. We did bring our own TV so that we could hook our AppleTV or other devices for movie/tv playback as the current TV is an older TV.
The internet was barely adequate...that is the only complaint we had. It might be a function of what is available in the neighborhood, but it seemed very slow at times. It would be adequate for work email communication as long as large file downloads aren't necessary. Otherwise, plan on waiting a while.
I didn't read closely enough at the description and didn't realize that pets were allowed. If you are allergic to pet hair (we weren't), you don't want to stay here. The owner should buy a Dyson to remove the pet hair as there is a fair amount on the carpet. We tried vacuuming with both units in the closet and neither one seems to have much suction. Also, our ladies noted that some of the utensils were not clean.
There is a hot-tub maintained by a service (witnessed), a wood fired heater in the living room, and adequate room for 6-8 people quite easily.
Overall, we would recommend people stay here, just know the above two things. It's about 8-10 minutes from Breckenridge and we enjoyed the drive much better from the south than when we have stayed in Frisco previously.
This property was excellent, especially for the price. Very close to breck while still having the privacy of being out in the woods.
Only a couple knocks keeping it from 5 stars:
Hot tub really designed for 3 people comfortably, 4 if you're really close
Some dishes were not as clean as we'd expect (not dirty exactly, more dusty from disuse)
Overall though, the experience far outweighed these slight issues and it was a great time had by all. Also, one of the few properties fit for 3 couples each wanting a private room with a queen bed or latger.
We stayed a week in this home for our ski vacation. It is a few miles south of Breck so going skiing involved driving and parking somewhere. There were 4 of us and had sufficient space and accommodations. The kitchen was large and well stocked. Having a washer and dryer on site was great! The hot tub was quite small...too small for 4 people. The owners request that you use the wood burning stove for heat and supplied plenty of firewood. If you are uncomfortable with fire starting or maintenance, this would not be a great place to stay but we enjoyed it!
Our family of 4 and our mother-in -law stayed here while my wife and I were doing the Warrior Dash at Copper Mountain. It is a great place with enough room to spread out and relax. There are great fishing spots very close by. I highly recommend Montgomery Reservoir on Hoosier Pass. There are some very active fish in the lake. I also recommend heading straight up the road from this house and exploring the 4x4 trails which are within a couple miles of the house. Good times.
Sandy's cabin near the Blue River was great for our reunion of 6 adults, 1 infant, and 1 dog. We loved being just outside of Breckenridge but close enough to be in town in 5 minutes. The kitchen was equipped with everything we needed to make breakfast and dinner for a large group, and we enjoyed sitting on the deck in the morning for coffee. Plenty of blankets and pillows to go around, and the temperature of the home was always 'just right' thanks to the time of year. The hot tub seemed great, even though we didn't use it. We fired up the fire pit out front one night for s'mores, and it was the perfect addition to our weekend. The cabin is located in a residential area, and the neighbors are super nice. We even had a neighbor dog come by every morning and afternoon to come say "hello" to our pup.
The only downside were the beds. Everyone in our group reported the beds being pretty hard and the pillows being pretty old and drab. I had trouble sleeping all weekend. I can generally sleep anywhere but really struggled to get a good night of sleep at the Blue River cabin. I would recommend bringing your own pillows with you if you are particular. I would also suggest to the owner that memory foam toppers be added to the existing mattresses, if not completely replacing the mattresses.
The owner, Sandy, was great to work with, easy to reach, and very accommodating. She even put a pack-n-play in the house prior to our arrival so that the little one's parents didn't have to lug one all the way from Boston to Breckenridge. We were pleased to have such a customer-oriented property manager.
Since the town of Breckenridge pre-dates the ski area by 102 years, the place blissfully lacks a master-planned feel and has authentic, historic, small-town charm. You may feel away from it all tucked in the White River National Forest in Breckenridge, but you are really in the epicenter of Colorado's best!
You are within 30 minutes from 5 other major ski areas: Vail, Keystone, Arapahoe Basin, Copper Mountain and Loveland!! Plus, the huge shopping center Outlets at Silverthorne are a mere 20 minute, stunningly scenic jaunt!
In and around Breckenridge, a pervasive network of historic mining trails offer fabulous chances to explore the valley on a mountain bike, a dog sled, snowmobile, cross-country skis, snowshoes or even feet! Other surprisingly year-round activities include fishing, museum and historical sites tours, hot air balloon rides and mine tours. You can get private, guided tours on virtually any activity imaginable!
During summer, climb a nearby 14er (14,000+ foot mountain) at Quandary Peak. Bike rental shops will point you to the paved bike path along the Blue River stretching for miles of scenic beauty on the way to Frisco. From Frisco you can bike to Keystone, around Lake Dillon and even to Vail Pass!
Breckenridge is serious about summer fun with the Gold Runner (raised rail) Alpine Coaster, hit howling speeds on the famous Alpine Slide, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h91OUmOEHio&feature=related plus take scenic chairlift rides, pan for gems, go bungee jumping, play miniature golf, go white water rafting and take a 4x4 off-road tour!
Did you know The Town of Breckenridge owns a Jack Nicklaus-designed, 27-hole golf course? Not only have numerous national and regional honors have been bestowed on the course, but the golf ball flies farther and straighter than at lower elevations, since there is less air resistance. As summer wanes, taking a drive on Boreas Pass Road during the fall is one of the best places to see fall color in the Colorado – perfectly timed to be the weekend of OktoberFest! Don't miss Breckenridge's many fun and wacky festivals throughout the year!
Despite the appreciation for preserving the old town area, massive ski area improvements continue to enhance the skier experience at Breckenridge. With a new bridge, now you can ski right down to Main Street to Colorados largest and best-preserved historic district. The Breck Connect Gondola is right next to the free bus depot, which loads in the middle of the parking lot! Breckenridge banished the death marches schlepping gear!! You'll find everything from steep, above-timberline chutes and bowls to groomed greens and everything in between. There are five terrain parks and half-pipes for skiers and boarders, with the terrain park called “Freeway rated as one of the best in the United States!
Truly world-class cuisine awaits at many of Breckenridges 60 restaurants, plus a vibrant arts scene, numerous spas, and over 200 stores.
