Little Compton Cottage Rental Photos and Description
2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, sleeps 4
Chaffee Cottage, circa 2007, was designed from an 18th-century cape and has all the modern-day amenities, such as central air, washer/dryer, dishwasher, outdoor shower, high-speed wireless internet and cable HDTV.
Located in the historic hamlet of Little Compton, the cottage is less than a mile from the Atlantic ocean as the bird flies, and just a two-mile drive along winding country roads and beautiful pastoral settings to the nearest beach. There are several more beaches within a fifteen-minute driving distance of the cottage, including (but not limited to) Horseneck, Goosewing, South Shore and Elephant Rock beaches. You'll find beautiful country roads, pristine beaches, rolling pastures, antique shops, wineries and nature preserves - all within biking or driving distance.
We are pet friendly at Chaffee Cottage, and we take each request individually. Dogs cannot be left unattended. A pet-sitting service is available upon request.
I just enjoyed a wonderful 8 days at this beautiful cottage in a quiet section of Little Compton. The house is very clean and well designed and the owners have thoughtfully provided everything you could want for a vacation stay. Steve and Josje answered all of my questions promptly by email and there is a binder giving directions to beaches and stores. The location is perfect for exploring LC, Westport MA and Four Corners Tiverton. The welcome gift of local wine was a lovely touch. We had straight days of sunshine but wouldn't have minded a bit of rain as the cottage was that comfortable. We didn't bring our children or dogs but the walled in and spacious yard would have been perfect for them. We recommend you check out nearby Crowthers for Thursday night "naked lobster" dinners-- 1 1/4 lb. lobsters from sakonnet point for $9.99. We loved our stay and hope to go again next year.
I can't say enough good things about our stay at the Chaffee Cottage! The cottage was immaculately clean and beautifully appointed. All of the attention to detail, from the comfy chaise for reading in the sun room to the thoughtful gift bag when we arrived, made for a wonderful and relaxing week of vacation. We particularly loved the nearby beaches and opportunities for long bike rides in and around the cottage. Be sure and make time for breakfast at The Barn Restaurant, located just down the road!
The owners were wonderful about communicating with us, and answered all of our questions promptly. I would definitely recommend this property to my family and friends.
I spent a week at Chaffee cottage in July 2011 with my two kids and our dog. The cottage was immaculate and beautifully appointed (just like in the pictures). The owners are charming and welcoming and an absolute pleasure to interact with. They seem to have thought of every detail to make renters feel welcomed and at home.
The towns in the surrounding area are friendly and quaint and we completely enjoyed ourselves and the slower pace we experienced. The area is abundant with farm stands featuring everything from fresh eggs and bacon and freshly picked fruits/vegetables to delicious freshly-made pies and breads. Great seafood markets are close by, as well.
The house really isn't far from a few great beaches - Goosewing beach was my favorite but my kids enjoyed the amenities (snack bar/showers/bathrooms) at Horseneck beach (state park) and so we spent more of our time there. Both beaches are beautiful with great waves and pretty, clear water.
I will definitely be returning next year to Chaffee cottage - it really was the ideal place to spend our precious family vacation time with just the right balance of activity and quiet.

Families with Teenagers,
Families with Young Children,
We stayed at the cottage for two weeks in July 2010, and had a lovely time. The cottage is immaculate, very clean, lovingly decorated, very comfortable. It looks just like the pictures on the website. The upstairs bedroom is very large, so my children could use it as a playroom.
Little Compton is a beautiful spot in a quiet corner of Rhode Island, where you can feel almost like you've stepped back in time. The domineering sound outside was birdsong. The beaches are really nice, although some of the beaches around there are private, and therefore off limits. But the public South Shore Beach was nice, and Horseneck was really nice - South Shore being the closest, but even Horseneck is just 15 minutes away. The area is good for nature walks and antiques shopping, but is maybe a bit limited in entertainment beyond that.
The owner seems to have thought of everything; we brought a computer and router and could plug it right in, which was very useful. Both before and throughout the stay he was a joy to communicate with: Accommodating, helpful, very charming.
"My husband and I had the extraordinary good fortune of staying at the Cottage this past June. It was one of our life's peak times, having traveled extensively and Little Compton/Westport numerous times.
Upon arriving you are instantly enveloped in peace and tranquility. From the pristine, private grounds to the serenity of the cottage itself. It's decorated in a warm, impeccably clean and highly functional fashion. Very zen! Everything you'd ever want or need is right there. We travelled from SC and found nothing lacking. There are various comfortable outdoor areas for everyone to have their own space to read quietly or visit with friends.
While at the cottage, I stayed connected to my work. Steve's well-equipped office with it's internet connection allowed me to dip in and out of the outside world with privacy, comfort and convenience.
Highlights included listening and smelling the fresh sea breeze in the trees in the early morning over coffee on the patio with the sound of roosters crowing in the distant background accompanied by the Red Summer Taningers, a rarity, in the foreground. Sheer bliss.
In the evenings after dinner with that last glass of wine, we experienced our own private fireworks display...the lightening bugs that were everywhere twinkling for hours. Something I haven't seen since I was a child. Magical. Night after night, it never ceased to delight us.
Numerous beaches are nearby, along with Lee's Supermarket and the Westport Seafood Market where we indulged in freshly harpooned swordfish, steamers and lobsters. While there was no need to dine out we ventured to the Breakfast Barn a few times and sat outside in the shade. Woods Ice Cream and farmstand are also nearby and provided all of the fresh local strawberries, herbs and other seasonal veggies and local eggs.
Chaffee Cottage provided the respite we needed from the hurly burly of everyday life. The beds were new and comfortable. All of the linens of higher quality than you'd imagine and a kitchen equipped with everything to satisfy even Julia Child.
One of my special spots was the sun room chaise for late afternnon reading and dare I say even a nap before dinner?
I'm counting the days until I'll return and re-capture these moments and create new memories.
Steve and Josje's loving care of their cottage and willingness to share it, is a gift that everyone should take advantatage of at least once, but like potato chips, once is not enough!
