Nanaimo offers something for everyone. There is hiking, swimming, camping, golf, horseback riding, cycling all within easy reach. Our location on the Island is central, and is ideally situated for touring the Island's many attractions. Victoria is 90 mins south with its numerous tourist attractions and the west island with its famous long beach, Tofino and Uclulet. The north Island, too, is easily accessible via the Island Highway for more rugged outdoor adventures like whale watching and grizzly bear tours. Large parking area will accomodate a boat or motor:home All year round accommodation, great winter rates. Golf course close by. Winter skiing at Mt Washington or catch the ferry to the Vancouver north shore mountains. I hour 35 min ferry ride. Nanaimo offers good restaurants and a casino down town = 10 mins away. Victoria is just a 90 min drive south.

I am an active 71 years young man who was born in England during the second world war. I grew up and was educated in England. At age 22 i emigrated to Australia. I had a wonderful time there and took a diploma course in pest management. I left Australia in 1969 and returned to England because of a death in the family. I stayed there for 6 years and worked for a large pharmaceutical company as an advisory fieldsman in agriculture. I loved the job but i still had the wanderlust and felt the need to seek what i thought would be greener pastures.

In 1976, i emigrated to Canada with my family. My wife and two kids. In 1986 we took canadian citizenship and we have been here ever since. A total of 37 years. We love Canada and in particular B.C and in particular again, Vancouver Island.

Over the years , i have built a pest control company in the Kamloops area which i ran and operated for almost 10 years and then sold it in 1986. I moved from Kamloops to the lower mainland where i worked for two horticultural supply companies up to the year of 2000 a.d I then took an early retirement, bought a motor home and went traveling for four years.

Finally i decided to opt for a quieter life , hung up my hiking boots and left the city traffic behind, found a nice house in a great location with an ocean view and here i am.

I bought this property for the location which overlooks Departure Bay and over the straits of Georgia to Vancouvers north shore.mountains I can watch the ferries comming in to Nanaimo from Vancouver. I can watch beautiful summer sunrises as the sun comes up (blood red sometimes.) from behind the north shore mountains and i also get great views of the full moon as well. The Cilaire suburb is probably the nicest suburb in Nanaimo with large lots and all the services are underground. I'm surrounded by mountains, lakes and of course the pacific ocean. There are numerous islands to explore and tons of things to do like boating, hiking, climbing, golf, horse riding and swimming. Nanaimo also has loads of shopping areas, a theatre, museum , a casino, large parks and several movie theatre's, Its great living in this tourist paradise.

A great climate, close to the ferries, easy to get around, (not fighting traffic the whole time.) Centrally located on the island for touring. Several major sporting centres like Bowen park, Beban park and a large new swimming complex and skating centre.

There is also a convention centre and a cruise ship terminal.

Joseph and Flo are excellent hosts and available to respond to any inquiries. The property is very well maintained and accurately described. Great deck with everything needed for a barbecue with an outstanding view. Quiet street close to anything you might need. We had a great time.

Relax at Nanaimo

This two bedroom self contained suite is well appointed and spotlessly clean. The bed in the main bedroom is one of the most comfortable I have used and the view from the lounge room windows is across Georgia Strait - very relaxing. The TV has Netflix for unlimited movies and there is also a collection of DVDs and books to keep you occupied. A short distance from the house there are woodland paths for walking and you can walk through the forest to the ferry docks at Departure Bay. Local shops have everything you may need and the really big stores area a short drive away. Joseph is a generous and helpful host who really makes you welcome - I recommend this property.

Property was as described and was very spacious and had all amenities. Owner accommodated an early drop of luggage while he was cleaning suite prior to occupancy. He also allowed the use of his BBQ on upper patio. Well located in Nanaimo and very close to departure bay.
Recommended for:  Families with Teenagers
Owner's Response: It's always a pleasure to make our vacationers happy and we find that attention to detail of the little things is what's important. However, in this case i'm not sure that i communicated the fact strongly enough, that the sun deck and the B.B.Q area are for the exclusive use of our vacationing guests and offer them the best views of the bay and Georgia straits. I hope that didn't deter or restrict our guests from using that particular area.

Beautiful location!

This vacation home is in a beautiful quiet neighborhood. Close to the beach and many attractions. The interior had been recently renovated. It was very clean and very comfortable. We had everything we needed right there. The upper deck was available to us and we used it, including the grill. The owner was prompted in responding to our questions and very gracious when we arrived. I will definitely be back and have already recommended it to several friends. (the pictures are beautiful, but the real view is spectacular!)
Owner's Response: These are gracious comments from a gracious couple whom i found to be very open and friendly. I was very busy with renovations when they arrived and but for that, i would have liked to have spent more time with them as it was very pleasant meeting them and talking to them.
However, we had a couple of pleasant conversations while they were here and i hope they will come back for another stay when my renovations are fininished and i have more time to enjoy them. Thank you L & J The perfect guests.

Owner's Response: It is very satisfying to hear comments back from our guests. We put a a lot of effort into making sure our guests are as comfortable as possible and our accommodations as spotfully clean as we can make them. We try to give helpfull information on restaurant locations and local attractions wherever possible and maintain an open and friendly environment.
