BEACH HOUSE WITH COLONIAL CHARM - STEPS TO 2 BEACHES & 5 MIN WALK TO VILLAGE

Rockport House Rental Photos and Description

4BR (sleeps 7), 2.5 baths & outside shower

'Periwinkle' is a sunny village Colonial home built in 1810 and updated in 2007.  Located a block from the ocean, there are peeks of the water from the second floor and a beautiful ocean view from the third floor master suite. You can walk to Rockport's Front or Back Beach in moments ... take your morning coffee or lunch/dinner picnic and enjoy the spectacular scenery, swim, collect sea glass or explore the tidal pools. The house is a five minute walk to the quaint village of Rockport, famed for its seaside shops, art galleries, and the freshest lobster and seafood you can buy.  In Rockport and all around Cape Ann, you will find some of New England's most beautiful sandy beaches, golf courses, hiking, boating and whale watching. After a day on the beach, enjoy your dinner outside in the garden. There are many ice cream shops nearby for dessert!  On Summer Sunday evenings there is a concert at the Back Beach bandstand just steps from the house.

ABSOLUTELY PERFECT!!!

  • 5 of 5
My sisters and I arrived from 4 different states to celebrate our mother's 80th birthday and we could not have taken her to a better place. The house was perfectly maintained and simply beautiful. We were within walking distance, even for our mom, from all the great shops and restaurants. The homeowner met us at the house, gave us the grand tour, along with written information of great places to go--The Lobster Pool was incredible, as was every place she suggested. We spent the evenings talking, laughing and drinking great wine. The days were spent going in and out of shops and meeting so many locals. We took her to the Strudel House we had gone to 30+ years ago on a vacation and sat outside eating the best pastries and drinking coffee on the stone wall surrounding the flowers just outside the front door of the shop!! Simply wonderful and now we have more memories to talk about when we return again. I'm even thinking we should bring our children and their spouses so they can share great memories with us. The one thing we could have used, but didn't find, an iron & ironing board--we not only survived without it, we laughed and laughed when the owner told us on the phone that nobody had ever asked for one before--I guess we momentarily forgot we weren't at home--that's how comfortable we were. Did I mention it was cold and rainy almost the entire time we were there? The weather simply made it even nicer to come back to the house at the end of our day. We had such fun the weather wasn't even a distraction. Actually, we probably enjoyed the clam chowder even more. The flowers in bloom everywhere we looked brightened everything up. The only thing I would mention, although it was not an issue for our stay, is that the bedrooms are on the second and third floors. That could be a problem either for people with mobility limits or perhaps for families with young children.

GREAT LOCATION AND SEASIDE CHARM

  • 5 of 5
We chose this house for a family wedding we were attending and from the get go the experience was great. The owner, Lisa, was available to answer all of our questions, was at the house to greet us and show us around the house and even provided information on where to go and things that were going on in town. The house itself is over 200 years old with tons of charm. The kitchen is quaint with cottage charm, the living room was spacious enough to seat everyone, the bedrooms were spacious and lovely. The master on the third floor was terrific with views of the ocean. The only draw backs were the stairs which were steep but that's because it's a 200 year old house and there was no air conditioning which we didn't need at that time of year. It may get hotter later in the summer but with the windows open and the fans going you should be fine.

The house is within 5 minutes to both beaches and less than a 10 minute leisurely walk into town. Rockport is adorable and had I known The Proposal was filmed there I would have taken more pictures. Grocery stores and pharmacies are within a 15 minute drive. Gloucester was within 20 minutes and had a lot of stores and restaurants also. The people in the entire area were some of the nicest I've met and loved to give suggestions on things to do or places to visit.

If we ever visit the area again we'll definitely stay here again. If we lived closer, I'd try to buy it - it's that cute.

A CHARMING NEW ENGLAND HOME

  • 5 of 5
This is a charming, 200-year old home! It was very clean and cozy and well-maintained. One possibly challenging feature is that the stairs to the bedrooms are steep and shallow. If that isn't a concern for you, then this is a great house! We took our coffee up to the incredible master suite on the 3rd floor every morning to soak in the incredible view and we were lulled to sleep by the sound of the ocean every night! Lisa was so nice! She met us at check in and gave us great dining tips as well as suggestions for things to do and see. We only stayed for four nights, which wasn't long enough. Lisa keeps the bird feeders in her yard stocked with food and all the neighborhood birds know it. In addition to the lovely ocean music, we were treated to endless bird song, as well.

A GREAT WEEK

  • 4 of 5
Our family vacations in Rockport every year coming from Boulder Colorado. This year we decided to stay closer to town rather than on the beach as the kids are getting older. We rented this house from Lisa and we were pleasantly surprised. The house was better than it was described as the master suite on the top floor is stunning with views of the water. The other rooms were comfortable and allowed our family and some friends, 7 of us in total, to feel right at home.
Lisa provided many toys for the ocean as well as bikes that entertained the kids. The kitchen was well equipped and there is a grill out back with a wonderful eating area in the side yard. All the beds were really comfortable and the bathrooms and outdoor shower gave us plenty of room to clean off as we came home from the beach.
The house is about a block away from both Front and Back Beach and very close to the downtown area.
We cannot say enough good things about this rental property because it did not feel like a rental. Lisa gave us a walk through when we arrived and checked in 1/2 way through our stay to make sure everything was going well.
We are already talking about when we will return next summer!

BEAUTIFUL COSY HOUSE IN A LOVELY LOCATION

  • 5 of 5
My family and I stayed here for my sister's wedding and we really enjoyed it. Lisa welcomed us with open arms to her beautiful old house that is full of little nooks and crannys to find and enjoy. The house is cosy with lots of littly 'quirks' that come with old houses. We were six adults and we had plently of room and there was even a lovely little garden at the side of the house to enjoy in the evenings. All the rooms were of decent size and the master bedroom was amazing! I just wish I could have stayed longer to enjoy the views from it. The kitchen was a bit small but it was well equipped and we even enjoyed a bbq on one of the evenings. It is very conveniently situated within 10mins walk to the town centre and even closer to the beach. The nearest supermarket is also within 10min drive. I would recommend staying here to anyone wanting to visit rockport and its surroundings.

FANTASTIC OFF-SEASON STAY

  • 5 of 5
With our son now living in Boston, the rest of our midwest-based family made the trek east for a "mini" family reunion, and the Periwinkle home in Rockport provided the perfect setting! The home, although over 200 years old, has been nicely updated and wonderfully decorated. The 3rd floor master suite is a dream--light-filled and spacious with gorgeous water views. Just be prepared to negotiate the steep, narrow staircase to reach it! The kitchen is small but well equipped, and the home has a perfect beachy, cozy feel. The house was immaculate and well appointed. It easily accommodated our group of five, with one bedroom left unused.

Despite being off season (November), the shops and restaurants in the delightful town of Rockport were nearly all open and just a short walk from the house.

Lisa was wonderful to deal with, and very accommodating. We look forward to returning in the future!
