Villefranche-sur-Mer is in a village in the heart of the Cote d'Azur (between Cannes and Monaco). Created in 1295 by Charles II d'Anjou, this village has kept its picturesque charm with the progression of the centuries. The bold colors of Mediterranean-style homes, the small and steep streets, and the lack of cars in the old village will bring to mind times past while offering the finest of modern cuisine, art, and scenic views. Villefranche-sur-Mer is blessed with a Mediterranean climate; mild in winter and very warm in summer.
This apartment in Villefranche was the perfect base for my family's stay in France. Although the building is over 300 years old, the apartment itself has been thoroughly modernised and it is comfortable and quiet. Its location is convenient for walking to the beach and to shops and for catching the bus or train; we never needed to rent a car to visit other towns on the Cote D'Azur. The rent is frankly less than we were paying to stay at our usual rental at the beach on the East Coast of the US, and the surroundings were certainly more interesting and beautiful. Eating meals prepared in our own kitchen saved us a lot of money. I would highly recommend this rental property.
Myself and my long suffering husband returned today from a 4 day break in Villefranche sure mer. The photos on the website are very accurate and the place is spotless and excellently furnished. This apartment offers the best of both worlds. Situated close to the waterfront in the old town, it has neither the noise of traffic nor the bluster of the fun and frolics of the great restaurants on the waterfront. Yet, the beach and these same restaurants are just a stones throw away. We landed at Nice airport and gor the 98 bus and 80 bus the V'franche and were 35 minutes in transit. the train station with its magical train ride thru' Cannes, Antibes, Monaco are 3 minutes from your door.
A perfect place for a car-less trip to this wonderful area- without the headache of parking. The owners are really helpful and the whole experience was very pleasant adding to great break away.
My wife and I are retirees, and wanted a chance to really experience small-town life in France by staying somewhere for 3-4 weeks. This location provided an excellent opportunity to do just that. It's clean, spacious and well-stocked with modern amenities, despite being in the Old Town section of Villefranche, which dates back to 1295.
We stayed for a month, and enjoyed every day. Arrangements were handled very well, and Erin (in the US) and Donna (in Villefranche) were prompt and courteous in all our dealings -- it was hassle-free.
You need to watch your step going up and down the flight of stairs (it's on the second level), but the two of us (in our mid 60's) did so with no problems. The place includes a flat-screen TV, hookup for your laptop, two spacious bedrooms, and a great living / dining area. It's one block from the Mediterranean, and perfectly quiet except for the church bells on Sunday morning. A beautiful spot. We absolutely give it four thumbs up.
Our family of four truly enjoyed a quiet, but busy spring break in this charming apartment. The size of the apartment is perfect for us, including our two boys, ages 10 & 13. The local property manager arranged transportation from the Nice airport at midnight, which was incredibly helpful! You can't drive right in front of the apartment, but it is an easy walk. There is a long, awkward staircase to the 2nd or 3rd floor apartment (appx 20 steps, I think). It makes you appreciate that this 18th century building was probably built before the US was even a country! The bus and train are close enough and are very simple to use. Although I don't think ANY washing machine in Europe is quite as good as those in the US, it was wonderful that this apartment also offers a DRYER! This turned out to be a nice luxury for us. The beds are very comfortable and had plenty of extra pillows and quilts, as we were visiting during a cooler time. There is a terrific bakery, restaurants, clothing stores, small market, and pharmacy right on that little "street" in front of the apartment, yet it was still very quiet. There is not much of a view from the apartment itself, but we didn't mind at all; it just added to the charm and truly made us feel like locals! You can walk a block and be at restaurants/shops right on the waterfront. There is an interesting old fort 2-3 blocks away. Nice, Monte Carlo, Antibes, Cap Ferrat, Eze, etc. are all very close and easily accessible. We usually always rent a car when travelling and honestly wouldn't have had a use for it on this trip. Wifi & cable went out one day, but we were able to reset the router and unplug/reset the cable. The people in Villefranche are very kind and the food was very good. We particularly enjoyed the Cosmo, which is near the waterfront. We look forward to returning some day soon (hopefully in warmer weather when we can enjoy the beach)! Thank you so much to the owner for making her apartment available to us and for all of the help with our vacation plans!
Our family of 5 (2 adults, 3 kids, 2 of which are teenagers) stayed in this lovely apartment in Villefranche sur Mer in June/July 2012. After researching many rentals, I chose this aparment for the location (we specifically wanted to stay in the spectacular village of Villefranche itself, and we liked that it was close to the waterfront in the old village and very near the restaurants and beach). We were pleased when we arrived to see not only was the location amazing, but the apartment was very nice and clean with everything we needed. It is a perfect place to explore the French Riviera. We did day trips to Monte Carlo, St Jean Cap Ferrat, Vieux Antibes, Eze Village, Nice (including a boat tour), and St Paul de Vence. After a day out exploring the kids lliked to come back to the apartment, grab some towels and walk down to the beach for a quick swim before dinner. We did not need to rent a car when staying at this property. The train station is very close, and the trains efficient and easy to use. We also used the bus a lot which is a 5 -10 minute walk from the apartment, and the buses are also easy to use and inexpensive.
We really had a wonderful holiday staying in this apartment. We would recommend it anyone who is fortunate enough to visit this incredible part of the world. Keep in mind you would have to be able to navigate stairs as the stairs going up to the apartment are steep... having said that, they did not trouble us at all.
We hope to go back one day! Our family had a great experience in Villefranche and the surrounding area. This flat is in an excellent location relative to all the sights of the French Riviera. Being just 10 min south of Nice, was perfect. We were close to everything, but yet were ideally removed from the hoards of tourist that invade the bigger towns. We loved being on a cobblestone street in the heart of the very quaint village of Villefranche. The property was clean and had everything we needed. The on sight property manager was more than helpful and the cleaner that we arranged to come twice a week was very thorough. The stairs to the flat were steep, but totally doable. My four year old went up and down with no problem. I would recommend this flat to anyone visiting the French Riviera.
Apartment is very cosy and location is really good. The apartment is in peaceful area, but still close to restaurants, shops, train station and the beach. Air conditioning is marvellous in a hot weather. We enjoyed our stay a lot with two teenage boys and would like to return.
Built in 1700 and fully remodeled in 2006, this apartment is in picturesque Villefranche-sur-Mer. This flat is ideal for spending a relaxing week exploring the French Riviera. Artists and writers such as Cocteau, Volti, and Goetz have flocked to this seaside village to be inspired by its scenic views and slower pace of living.
From the apartment, it is only a 30-minute drive west to the Nice International Airport and a 30-minute drive east to the Italian border town of Ventimiglia. It is a 15-minute drive/bus/train ride to the city of Nice and 15 minutes to the country of Monaco. The city of Villefranche-sur-Mer is accessible by train and the station is a five-minute walk from the apartment.
