History of property.: Experience all of wonderful New Orleans while staying in one of the oldest Creole Cottages in the city. This home was built circa. 1808 and has some of the finest examples of architecture and details fashionable in the late 1700’s and early 1800’s. You will be staying one short block from the French Quarter and one block from Bourbon Street. Our cottage is luxuriously furnished and elegantly decorated, having antiques from the mid to late 1800’s.
THE HISTORY OF THIS AMAZING HOME
This elegantly decorated Creole Cottage built, “of columbage and bricked between post” circa. 1808, is one of the rarest examples of early Creole cottage architecture remaining to date. This home is in the first subdivision of New Orleans named Faubourg Marigny. The plantation was subdivided in March 16 1806. This home retains almost all of its original architectural features including; its rare Ram’s horn hinges and original latches on the French glass doors.
More history of property.: There are also very outstanding long latches which were used to open and close the doors. The ceilings are original and are “dressed and beaded” which are rare to find intact to day. The mantels are the most distinguishing interior elements in Creole domestic architecture. Two of the mantels are box mantels in the style dating from the late 1700’s to 1810 with columns supporting a frieze having strong horizontal moldings. The floors are beautiful large plank and the original moldings are intact. This property was sold to one of the first women of color to purchase property in the United States. Madame Magdalene Baure’ purchased three lots which now form the sites of 1426 and 1434 Burgundy and of 928, 930 and 934 Kerlerec. This property now has 4 other cottages, two of which were believed to be very early barge board cottages from the early 1800’s most likely moved here at a later date.

Scott Thompson purchased this house in 2003
Living in Nashville TN we decided we Loved New Orleans so much that we could not stay away. Renting Hotels or an Apartment once a Month was not working. So we bought our first Guest House in year 2000 in the 2300 block of Royal Street. We then decided that we very much enjoyed the experience of owning a guest house. So when the opportunity to Purchase The Kerlerec House in early 2004 arose we did so, and never looked back. Not to say that Katrina did not give us a major tail spin. But we persevered and looked ahead. There are regular guests that have been staying at The Kerlerec Guest House since 1998 and come every year for Jazz Fest as well as for other events. These people are the reason that we love the ownership of our Guest House.
We were a group of 15 adults and we rented the whole complex in the middle of April 2015. This place has charm and is a very lovely place. We were met at the gate and given a tour of the house and shown where everything was. Given information if there was an issue who to contact. It is very historic and is located in a very excellent location. We were able to walk to many areas and see a great many things. The house has information on many things to see and do while in New Orleans. The issues that we had were attended to if we had a request they were very attentive to it. It is a shame that some people do not respect the property and abuse it. We all had a wonderful time, and it is and amazing place. We also had a relaxing time in the hot tub after a long day. It was a great decision and everyone had a great time. We were able to do the WWII museum, the Madri Gras Word, the river walk, the outlet mall, the cemetery, the Casino, Bourbon Street, Frenchman Street, New Orleans School of Cooking, The French market, Swamp tour, Laura Plantation Tour, Ghost Walk, Art Museum and eat at many wonderful Restaurants. We did not have time to do the Audubon Zoo/Aquarium or go on a steamboat ride, just so many things to do within walking distance of this Historic home. I highly recommend it to anyone with an appreciation of historic homes.
I rented the main house and jazzy suite for 9 nights in December with 6 of us total to celebrate my birthday and revisit New Orleans after having left after graduating from UNO in 2005. The house was charming and shows you a piece of history of the city and neighborhood. The house was clean and organized, There were a few minor issues we had through the week, like one of the coffepots dying. But you can expect that from people not respecting the property amenities when they stay there and not forwarding that information to the owners. The house is in great shape for being over 200 years old. And the communication with the owners, property manager and handyman was great. I was able to get in touch with someone when we arrived and when & if there were any problems.
The location was also prime, we were able to able to walk almost everywhere and Frenchman St is only blocks away. We also could pick up the buses and streetcar very easily. It really made the trip nice to be able to stroll around and relax and not worry about parking or where to find a cab if we were out.
I would definitely recommend this property to people based on the owners and the property,
We stayed here two weeks ago for our with our whole wedding party and it was the best decision ever! We wanted to stay somewhere that would allow for all of us to be able to be together and plenty of space to gather and socialize, all the while having enough rooms and areas that everyone had some privacy, so we rented the entire complex. There are three houses that offer many different types of bedrooms and bathrooms with layouts to fit all sorts of needs (there were 29.) With a beautiful, charming courtyard, hot tub, spacious kitchen and dining room that was great for communal meals (my bridesmaids, mothers and I also had our hair and makeup professionally done there and the lighting was great) There is on-site laundry which was really nice for a group our size, along with irons and boards in each room. We were also able to host our rehearsal dinner at the house in the courtyard with a caterer and DJ and it was WONDERFUL. Scott was incredibly helpful, knowledgeable and easy to work with. He made us all feel welcome and comfortable and answered all of our questions promptly. All of the rooms were well stocked and clean. The furniture and aesthetic are rustic and make you feel like you're in old New Orleans. The location can't be beat: just a couple blocks from Frenchman Street and a couple more from the French Quarter. We literally walked everywhere the whole week and it was so convenient.
I highly suggest renting the Kerlerac House if you want a unique, personal and lovely experience in New Orleans. Especially if you have a large group, this place can't be beat.
Scott the owner was awesome!! The house was in a very convenient location to pretty much anything you wanted to do on the French Quarter. Our wedding party even walked from the house to the venue. It was amazing having a washer and dryer plus a hot tub on site to soak your feet after a long day of walking. Scott allowed our group to check in early and have an extended check out time. He seemed very comfortable with large groups of people and the partying that goes on. It was amazing to be able to cook in each of the cabins or in the main house.
We recently stayed at the Keurelec House for a 5-day jampacked weekend in Nola filled with bachelor/bachelorette parties and wedding festivities. The compound was much bigger than anticipated and offered guests a variety of sleeping options. Great communal spaces to gather as a group, as well as nice options to escape for a moment of quiet time if needed. Location is keen - walking distance to Frenchman Street & Bourbon Street. Management maintained property well, was flexible to party's needs and offered great pricing. We would definitely bring back the group for round 2 next year!
There were 27 of us staying here for a wedding and it was the perfect place for our group. Scott was very accommodating and left plenty of exptra sheets, pillows, toiletries and anything else we needed. The cottages were clean and the beds were comfortable. The best part was being able to all hang out and not have to be in separate hotel rooms. The hot tub was great to have! We will definitely be coming back to stay there when we visit again. If you want to stay somewhere that is authentic to new orleans style and taste then this place is perfect.
