Splendid house

Such a beautiful spot, and a house with everything in it ! The house exceeds in all what is promised , and for the rainy days a housefire and many films to watch.
Is there one thing which is negative ? Well yes , but has nothing to do with the house : as a beachhouse the influence of the street of Juan is great as a result in the evening it really gets cold , secondly if you have bad luck you get the fog which is a result of the cold water to the house , so you have to get in.
We had a wonderfull time there, thanks Judy and Don !

Whales and More!

5 of 5
Submitted: January 1, 2012 Stayed: July 2011
We finally saw the killer whales on the last day. My wife and I, along with our Boston terriers enjoyed 9 restful days at Rocky Point. Although getting to the water was tricky, the view was wonderful! We saw sea lions, dolphins and countless birds. The house was very comfy with a wall of windows in the living room and in the upstairs master bedroom. The best treat was getting in the hot tub just before sunset gazing out across the straits. Restaurants in the area were decent, but we hardly ever ate out. Grilled salmon on the deck was unbeatable. Don and Judy were the greatest owners. Don put me in touch with some great salmon fishing and I took home a cooler full of filets. Judy's personal touch in the house and recommended area trips were super. We hiked the Galloping Goose trail almost every day. The house is centrally located to many activities including Victoria and Port Renfrew. But, the best part of every day was getting back to the house. Great place! We hope to visit again soon!

This House is HAUNTED

5 of 5
Submitted: September 14, 2010 Stayed: September 2010
Okay…just kidding…this house is NOT haunted; repeat, this house is NOT haunted. I wanted to make sure you read this review.

We had a wonderful stay at Rocky Point. This stay was also our first time to British Columbia (we have traveled many places, New Zealand, Thailand, Greece, Italy, etc). You can’t help but be taken in by the view when you arrive at this house, it is fabulous. The resident deer was lounging on the grounds below the deck (the deer seems to be a weekend guest, he came around each Friday we where there). When you walk in the house, you cannot help but be drawn to the large windows. Every room (except the laundry room and 2nd bath) has a wonderful view.

The house is large with 3 bedrooms and 2 bath. The upstairs master bedroom is a delight; it is large, the bed is very comfortable and there is practically a wall of glass allowing great views. Overall the house is comfortable (not overly formal and not shabby). The kitchen is well appointed, you have everything you need (my only suggestion here is a French Press for us coffee snobs). There are plenty of books, a handful of games, playing cards, puzzles, VHS tapes and DVD’s to allow for a relaxing time. We often sat on the patio reading and sipping wine. The only things you need to bring to the house are your clothes, a car, and food (there are two grocery stores in Sooke, so food is not a problem).

Location: the location of this house is ideal, far enough outside the town (Sooke) so you still feel somewhat remote, but close enough to run into town at the last minute for odds and ends. The house does have neighbors, but you rarely see them. You will probably see wildlife while staying here; as previously mentioned, there is the resident deer and you will likely see seals (or was it sea lions) swimming along (we saw several throughout the week).

As with anything, there can be inconveniences… but none of what I am about to say is a reason not to rent this house. First, as a previous reviewer pointed out, the headroom in the bathrooms is lacking for taller individuals; it is not a big problem, but noticeable. Second, the house is situated along the main road that goes from Sooke, and Port Renfrew. If you are staying during the work week and leave the windows open to fall asleep to the waves, you will be awoken around 4:30 to 5:00AM by the occasional truck and vehicle.

I would recommend this house. Don, the owner, is easy to work with and helpful

What a stay!

5 of 5
Submitted: August 1, 2010 Stayed: July 2010
We stayed at Rocky Point this summer, for one week. The minute we arrived we were completely taken by the view and location of the house. Also the house itself felt like home to us. In daytime (if you are lucky) you can see whales swimming by from your loungechair and when you go to sleep you hear the waves which is very relaxing. We didn't see whales unfortunately, but a lot of other guests did, we read in the guestbook.

The property was nice and clean and well maintained. The rooms are large and comfortable, so are the beds and you can find all you need for doing laundry, you can use the computer/printer/internet and there is a lot of kitchen equipment. Also there is a large amount of DVD's and videos which you can chose from and watch from the relaxing couch. Also the house gives a lot of privacy. Although we had neighbours during our stay, we never heard or sometimes even saw them.
The only little losing point was the height above the sink in the upstairs bathroom. Because of the roof it was too low for us if we stood for the mirror, but we are tall people, so I guess this won't be a problem for everyone.

There are a lot of things to do in the area of Sooke and wildlife to check out. While hiking we saw a couple of sea otters, birds of prey, a big jellyfish and there were three days we were visited at our home by a deer which slept and ate there. From the backyard you get also access to a private (rock)beach.

I would definitely recommend this place to friends/relatives because we enjoyed our stay very much!
