Isla Mujeres Vacation Rental villa

Went to Isla Mujeres with another couple. Loved the setup- each room has its own private entrance and the pool was the BEST, large and overlooking the ocean, which you can't get to from the property. But who cares when you have such a beautiful freshwater pool? Better to take your rented golf cart to North Beach, sun, swim,maybe get a temporary tatoo, then have a drink at the swing bar while mariachis seranade you. A golf cart is a must- plan on $50.00 US a day, altho Carmita, Jim's wife, can get you a deal. ( Bargaining is the way to go in this little piece of heaven.) Be prepared to slow down and relax, the carts will only go about 10 miles an hour. Manuel, the groundskeeper at the property really took good care of us, from going to pick up to go food to even blowing up our rafts! The only negative was the "gourmet kitchen" was not air conditioned, and all guest food had to be kept in the guest refrigerators (small). It would have been a pain to cart the food up the stairs to the kitchen and sweat while cooking. So we were forced to eat out the whole time (ha ha). I have stayed in town and much prefer this south end of the island. It's quiet and private, away from the activity of town, yet a 10 minute ride away. Brush up on even some very basic words in Spanish -- the locals appreciate it and you'll all have a good laugh! As for money, don't worry, get a few hundred pesos at your local bank before you come so you can pay for the ferry and misc tips, then the exchange booths near the ferry landing on the Island have very favorable rates. Most restaurants take US dollars, but by the time you leave you'll be "thinking in peses" and wanting to stay forever.
