This was our summer home when I was growing up, in the late 80's my Mother remolded, and added on to the exiting cabin.
She then sold her home in Arlington, Va and stayed there the rest of her days. I love sharing this place with people for I have lots of fond memories.
The Owner purchased this house in 1956
This house was handed down to me. My siblings and I learned to swim in Lake Wilson and fish in Lake Mosby. We had lots of good times down on the river, We have had a wedding, and numerous pig roasts and of course lots and lots of picnics.
We loved Miss Kitty's place! It was neat, clean, comfortable and equipped with anything we could need. Our lab could not have been happier with the river so close by. We found and enjoyed the lake with its rope swing and beautiful waterfall. There were grills to be used and several places to sit outside and enjoy the peace and the views. The area is also steeped in history and small, pretty, historic towns. We'd love to come back with the grandchildren one day.
My husband and I, along with our two children (ages 11 and 13), stayed at Miss Kitty's Place for a week over the 4th of July. My kids' only complaint was that they wanted to stay longer! The house is spacious and well equipped. We were able to cook wonderful meals in the well stocked kitchen, and there were two grills (one by the house and one on the banks of the river) to use as well. Merilee was so helpful in pointing out fun activities to do both on and off the property. The kids loved fishing in the river and at the fishing lake, swimming and rafting in the river, and using the rope swing to launch themselves into the swimming lake. We even tried our hands at horseshoes, but never found the time to use the volleyball net. At night, when we were all tired, we enjoyed the plentiful board games and movies provided.
On the days we felt like leaving the property, Washington, DC, was just under 1 1/2 hours away. We were able to park at the nearest metro station and then ride the metro to wherever we wanted to go in DC. So simple to get into the city. Heading west, Shenandoah National Park is an easy 30 minutes away.
You can get an idea of how comfortable the house is by the pictures here, but it is the outdoors that will take your breath away. We spent every morning drinking coffee on the patio or porch looking down at the river through the beautiful flowering gardens.
This is the second time we stayed at this great place ,
We would recommend this to anybody ,
no matter what your situation is . ( family or just friends )
We came for the Memorial day ( long weekend )
the flexibility of doing what you want is great , you can hike, drive, or like us ride the mountains and visit the Nations Capital the next day ,
Come home and use the kitchen to cook up something or just fire up the grill either way , its great , go out back and play games or just hang around the deck or the patio , what ever your pleasure
Thank you for making our vacation even better

Our family (husband, wife, dog) had the best time at this gem of a property. The pictures on the HomeAway site are lovely-- however you must be onsite to witness the landscapes, the peace, the warmth, and the love-and-care that have gone into this home, both inside and out. While only a 2-night stay, we were able to venture to Washington, VA for an outdoor lunch, take a paddle-boat ride on the lake (my husband even caught 2 fish!), enjoy several walks from the zig-zag trail to the river and along the river, and home-cooked meals, too. The owner is so kind-- she met us at the property to give a tour-- and she stocks the home with enough essentials (soap, paper towels, toilet paper) to get you through...a personal touch that makes a big difference. Our getaway was *just* what we needed. We're already looking at a second date this summer to visit! Only an hour away from the city life, we highly recommend this over a hotel stay. Unless you absolutely need internet access, give yourself a break from the digital world. Your mind will be glad you did. 5 stars for sure!
We stayed at Miss Kitty's Place for 2 nights. I could have spent a week or more there! It was just two of us but, there is plenty of space for larger groups. The location is great. We visited the Luray Caverns and some of the area wineries that are close by. Then, we relaxed at Miss Kitty's in the evenings. The house was clean and well taken care of. All of my questions during reserving the property were answered quickly by the property owner. Before we left Miss Kitty's we were already working on planning when would could stay again. I would recommend Miss Kitty's to anyone looking for a great get away!
I visited with my wife and 4 children (ages 11 - 16) and we had an amazing time. When you plan your visit, plan lots of time for hanging out at the river and swimming hole. VERY relaxing! We had everything we needed and were VERY comfortable. Unplug, unwind, recharge. 6 STARS.
The house sits on a hill overlooking the Rappahannock River
You can spend days touring the numerous wineries that are located around our area, 2 are within 3 miles of the house. Spring and fall bring the steeple chases, antique shops, art galleries, are within minutes, caverns to tour or hiking the Blue Ridge Mts. We are 20 minutes from Skyline Dr, 58 miles to DC and 40 miles to Dulles International Airport.
Other Activities: Our house overlooks the picnic area by the river where we have a lighted shelter with tables and grill along with lawn games.
Kids love the zig zag path to the river or take them to the lake for a swim. Or take the boat and paddles for a little fishing on the Lake Mosby where you can land a big bass. We have trails along the river to enjoy as well or just sit on the deck or patio and relax after touring DC or hiking along the Blue Ridge. We have numerouse vineyards to try along with antique shops, art galleries and horseback riding.
