PALM SPRINGS — If you're drawn to old pueblos plastered in history, The Mesa is calling.
If sleek contemporary homes set your architectural heart aflutter, there are several in The Mesa.
If charming, ranch-style homes with crank windows and long porches are your thing, don't miss an opportunity to drive through the streets of the historic neighborhood.
The Mesa, off South Palm Canyon Drive in Palm Springs, is an un-gated neighborhood of about 180 homes.
You know you've reached the nearly 100-year-old community, which sits at the base of Mount San Jacinto, when you reach the Gate House on El Portal. The structure was built in 1926 and marks the main entrance to the neighborhood.

What they say (about The Mesa):
“It's paradise,” said Rosie Vacano, 64.
Vacano has lived in The Mesa for seven years. She also owns a second structure — one of two Donald Wexler-designed homes in the neighborhood — which she rents out.
She is a member of the neighborhood's advisory committee and represents The Mesa in the Palm Springs Neighborhood Involvement Committee, which is facilitated by the city.
“I love the people and the quaintness of the neighborhood,” Vacano said.
She cites the close proximity to the mountain and the community's serene vibe as major draws.
“The privacy is also nice,” she said as she mused over the exact reason why celebrities are attracted to the neighborhood.
“Barry Manilow has several homes here,” Vacano said. “Suzanne Somers also lives here, and so does author Herman Wouk.”
